Chapter 388: Chapter 378: Reunion

When Tang Mo carried Mrs. Qiao to the building, she found Qi Jiaming and George Lin standing guard at the entrance, waiting for her.

Not far from the entrance, a few Red-eyed Meat Dragons were still pacing about, but Qi Jiaming and George Lin clearly weren’t afraid. They had already hunted far too many of these mutant beasts.

"Xiao Jin!"

Spotting Qiao Jin from a distance, George Lin rushed over and took his unconscious wife from Tang Mo’s arms.

"Your mother...?"

George Lin hadn’t seen his wife up close in days. Seeing her unconscious now threw him into a panic.

’He’d finally found his daughter; he couldn’t lose his wife now.’

"Mom’s fine. She’s just exhausted. She’ll wake up soon."

Tang Mo observed George Lin’s condition. ’Not bad,’ she thought. ’He’s a superpower user, too.’

As for Mrs. Qiao...

Tang Mo and the others found an empty room nearby and laid Mrs. Qiao on a sofa.

As long as she was still breathing, it wasn’t a problem for Tang Mo.

Tang Mo took Mrs. Qiao’s wrist and began to heal her, little by little, with her spiritual power.

Qi Jiaming had been right; Mrs. Qiao’s body was incredibly weak. If they’d been just two days later, she would have been gone forever.

’I’m so lucky,’ Tang Mo thought with a sigh. ’Otherwise, who knows how long I would have been stuck in this world.’

Soon, the color returned to Mrs. Qiao’s pale face, and her body temperature returned to normal.

Although she hadn’t opened her eyes yet, her physical condition was no longer critical.

Tang Mo let out a long sigh of relief. ’Once Mrs. Qiao opens her eyes, we have our mother-daughter reunion, and the family is all together, my mission in this world should be complete,’ she mused.

Thanks to Tang Mo’s spiritual power, Mrs. Qiao’s deep sleep didn’t last long.

Soon, her eyelids fluttered, and she opened her eyes.

The first person she saw upon opening her eyes was, of course, Qiao Jin, who had been watching over her.

’Of course she was there. Mrs. Qiao was the core of her current mission; there was no way Tang Mo wouldn’t be right by her side.’

"Xiao Jin... I... am I dead?"

Mrs. Qiao clutched Tang Mo’s hands excitedly, large tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.

She knew her own body best; she knew she only had a few days left.

She thought she would never see her daughter again.

While searching for their daughter, she and her husband had often considered the grim reality: their daughter had always been frail and timid. The chances of her surviving such a long journey alone were incredibly slim.

They knew all along that their hope was faint, but it was that tiny sliver that had kept them going until now.

She had never even imagined she would actually see her daughter again.

"Mom."

Tang Mo understood the woman’s feelings perfectly. She squeezed her hands back and replied.

"As long as our family is safe, that’s all that matters. As long as we’re all safe."

George Lin, who had been standing nearby, could no longer hold it in. With eyes red-rimmed, he pulled his wife and daughter into a tight embrace.

Watching the family’s heartwarming reunion, Qi Jiaming quietly slipped out of the room.

The family of three talked in the room for a long time, sharing what they had been through and their hopes for the future.

Neither Tang Mo nor her parents mentioned the hardships and suffering they had endured. No one wanted to make the others worry.

"I don’t know when this apocalypse will end. I don’t know how our family is going to survive in the days to come."

Once they had caught up and their emotions had settled, all that was left was to plan for the future.

Mrs. Qiao lamented.

Hearing his wife’s words, George Lin’s brow furrowed. They had found their daughter, but both she and his wife were weak. Their family had no food, and it was still a mystery where they would go next or how they would survive.

Mrs. Qiao’s lament left Tang Mo stunned.

’Her words sparked another thought in Tang Mo’s mind...’

’No way. Don’t tell me the mission in this world isn’t over yet?’

Having been through another world, Tang Mo knew that when a mission was over, a "door" was supposed to appear to take her back to the real world.

But she had been looking for a while now and couldn’t find it.

Everything in this world was continuing on, showing no signs of ending.

The mission in this world didn’t end with her successfully reuniting with her parents and healing her mother.

Mrs. Qiao’s lament just now made Tang Mo realize something else.

’This world is so dangerous. Food will only become scarcer, and the Meat Dragons will grow more and more out of control.’

’Even if she managed to save them today, what would happen after she was gone?’

’After she left, Mr. and Mrs. Qiao would still be in constant danger. That was definitely not the outcome Qiao Jin had hoped for.’

’So what outcome did Qiao Jin want? What exactly was her second wish?’

"Xiao Jin, what’s wrong? Are you alright? Are you just tired?"

Seeing her daughter’s dazed expression, Mrs. Qiao grew worried.

She had only just gotten her daughter back; now, Qiao Jin’s every move tugged at her parents’ heartstrings.

"Mom, Dad, what’s your greatest wish? I mean, aside from us all being together."

’As Tang Mo saw it, the first of Qiao Jin’s two wishes had been related to the painting.’

After she fulfilled that wish, she had definitely felt a change in the residual energy within Qiao Jin’s body.

Everything pointed to the first wish being complete.

’So what exactly is the second wish?’

’Tang Mo knew the wish had to do with her mother’s health, but that seemed to be fulfilled now. So where was the problem?’

"Now that we have you back, Xiao Jin, your father and I only have one wish left. We wish the world could go back to the way it was... or at the very least, that everyone could just live in peace."

Mrs. Qiao said, stroking her daughter’s hair.

’Restore the world to the way it was? Let everyone live in peace?’

Tang Mo murmured the words to herself.

’Is that Qiao Jin’s wish? For everyone to be able to live a good life?’

Tang Mo thought she understood.

’This must be Qiao Jin’s second wish.’

What Qiao Jin wanted was simple: for her parents to live a good, safe life.

Not just to survive today, or tomorrow, but to live without fear in the world that was supposed to belong to humanity.

Tang Mo lowered her gaze. ’Of course,’ she thought. ’No mission is ever that simple. Isn’t the core idea the same as the last world’s mission?’

’This is so hard.’
