Chapter 981: Uchiha Kiyomi vs Shimizu Mika II
“Mika appears to be growing more serious, and this might pose an impossible challenge for the Uchiha girl,” Naomi commented with a contemplative expression.
“Regardless of her level of seriousness, why is she wearing that smile? It’s a bit unsettling, if you ask me,” Shinichi inquired with a frown.
The two of them stood atop the rooftop of the Konoha Ninja Academy, observing the unfolding battle. Despite the considerable distance, ordinary individuals wouldn’t be able to discern the details of the fight. However, for Naomi and Shinichi, it presented no difficulty.
Upon hearing Shinichi’s question, Naomi’s expression turned somber as she responded, “This is likely a coping mechanism she developed during her time at ‘Root.’ She has endured so much pain that she started deriving emotions like elation, thrill, and arousal from pain. Perhaps her brain felt the need to experience these emotions as a way to maintain its sanity.
Consequently, under ‘normal’ circumstances, she would remain poised, decorous, kind, gentle, graceful, humble, patient, virtuous, respectful, benevolent, honest, charitable, and faithful—a true embodiment of ‘Yamato Nadeshiko.’ However, when stimulated by pain, whether experiencing it or having the opportunity to inflict the pain she feels onto others, she reveals her masochistic and sadistic side.”
Shinichi was left speechless as he gazed once again at the young Kunoichi in the arena. “That’s twisted… and kind of scary… that Danzō really did a number on the girl…” After a moment of pondering, he asked, “But still… how did she, who shouldn’t have any understanding of what ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’ means, suddenly adopt those traits?”
Upon hearing Shinichi’s question, Naomi’s expression turned troubled, and she responded with a sigh, “Well, after leaving the Root, I had to learn how to blend in with the normal villagers and understand what’s considered ‘normal.’ The same went for Mika. So, we conducted some research. During that period, Mika developed an interest in traditional tales that were widely appreciated by the people. Many of these tales depicted a woman known as the ‘personification of idealized woman’ and were treated as the ‘epitome of pure, feminine beauty,’ earning high respect from everyone, including both men and women.
After reading those tales, Mika chose to embody such a persona for herself. However, as one might anticipate, ninjas cannot truly embrace these traits wholeheartedly. We are instruments designed for combat and killing, so something like ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’ remains an ideal woman that a Kunoichi can never fully embody—especially not Mika, given her masochistic and sadistic tendencies that she ended up developing because of her time at the Root. Consequently, her true character unravels whenever she confronts ‘pain.’
“I see,” mumbled Shinichi with a complex expression. He truly didn’t know how else to respond.
Naomi, understanding Shinichi’s loss for words sighed and turned her attention back to the arena.…
Among the instructors
“I believe it will be challenging for the girl from the Uchiha Clan to defeat Shimizu Mika,” remarked Kurenai, shaking her head as she reminisced about facing the young girl over a year ago.
Asuma commented, “Challenging? I’d go as far as to say impossible. That girl is too formidable for the academy. I dare say she’s even stronger than Uchiha Sasuke and Hyuga Neji, but she doesn’t always showcase her strength like those two.” After a pause, he added, “I doubt any trainee, aside from Uzumaki Naruto using Senjutsu or the Nine Tails’ Chakra, could defeat her.”
Contemplating Asuma’s words, Kurenai acknowledged the validity of his argument. She began to think that he might be correct. Lost in thought, she turned to Anko, who was engrossed in devouring dango dumplings, and inquired, “Does Uchiha Kiyomi have any other tricks up her sleeve? Because if not, this fight is likely to conclude soon with her defeat.”
While munching away, Anko recollected the past seven months spent training Uchiha Kiyomi and responded, “I’m not sure.” She went on to explain, “I did teach Kiyomi-chan a few ninjutsu, including some of my special snake techniques. She’s already used one of them. Additionally, I assisted her in adapting to her Sharingan’s dynamic vision for high-speed combat, but that’s the extent of it.”
“With just this much, it might not be possible for Uchiha Kiyomi to win, which means this battle is in the hands of Shimi–…” Just as Kurenai was on the verge of finalizing her assessment, Anko suddenly recalled a discussion she had with Uchiha Kiyomi during one of their training sessions and grinned, saying, “Hehehe… perhaps, it’s not hopeless for Kiyomi-chan after all.”
Hearing Anko’s unexpected words, Asuma and Kurenai were taken aback and inquired, “What do you mean? Does the girl from the Uchiha Clan still have something up her sleeve that might surprise her opponent?”
Anko simply grinned, “Hehehe… who knows?” Without providing a definitive answer to either of them, she shifted her focus back to the arena, eagerly anticipating the outcome.
In a battle between Ninjas, there’s no concept of right or wrong, fairness or unfairness, cheap tricks, or anything else; it’s solely about victory and defeat. The end justifies the means, and the chosen path to reach the goal is inconsequential. Thus, it wouldn’t matter if Uchiha Kiyomi were to employ the method she demonstrated some interest in at that time to secure her victory.
Kurenai and Asuma regarded Anko with a skeptical gaze before returning their attention to the arena, curious to see if the outcome would diverge from their initial predictions.
…
Back at the arena
“Wh–why the hell are you smiling like that? It’s creepy!” exclaimed Kiyomi, her expression one of shock as she observed the sadistic smile on Mika.
“Haah… Haah… it doesn’t matter… but right now, I am in the mood for some ‘play.’ Yes, let’s do that…” answered Mika, licking her lips in excitement. She then directed her Chakra toward her hair follicles, controlling her hair to rush at Kiyomi at full speed.
Kiyomi swiftly distanced herself, weaving hand signs. She kneaded Chakra in her stomach and directed it toward her mouth. As her chest swelled up, she performed a nature change on the chakra and released a fireball from her mouth, ‘Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!
Fire, a natural enemy of hair, became a formidable opponent the moment Kiyomi’s fireball made contact with Mika’s hair. Suddenly, a repugnant odor of burning protein engulfed the arena.
“Ugh… so gross!” Kiyomi muttered as she observed Mika, hoping the burning hair would halt Mika’s advance.
Contrary to Kiyomi’s expectations, Mika not only persisted but channeled more chakra towards her scalp, causing an incessant growth of hair that surged towards Kiyomi, while shouting, “Not enough… this isn’t sufficient… come on, Kiyomi-chan…!”
Confronted by the relentless wave of hair, Kiyomi clenched her teeth. “Damn it…!” She swiftly retrieved two smoke bombs from her Shinobi bag and slammed them on the ground, triggering an explosion with a distinct Poof sound. The arena was once again enveloped in a thick cloud of smoke that obscured Mika’s vision, rendering her unable to discern Kiyomi’s movements. Even if she could sense Kiyomi’s position, the concealment in the smoke prevented her from understanding Kiyomi’s actions.
Sha! Sha!
Suddenly, two shurikens emerged from the concealment of the smoke, rapidly multiplying as they closed in on Mika—from two to four, eight, sixteen, thirty-two, and beyond.
Witnessing the escalating onslaught of shuriken, Mika couldn’t conceal her surprise. She muttered, “Isn’t this Jutsu the same as the one used by Tenten-san in the previous fight?” Transforming the ends of her hair into more than a dozen kunai to deflect the shuriken, a realization struck her. “Don’t tell me… you learned this technique after watching Tenten-san use it just once?”
As the smoke dissipated, Kiyomi grinned and nodded. “Sharingan allows us to perceive the flow of chakra within our target’s body. I utilized my Sharingan to observe the chakra flow within Tenten-san’s body as she executed this ninjutsu in her fight against Hinata-san. Hand signs are easily replicated thanks to the dynamic vision, making this jutsu mine. Of course, I still need practice to truly master it, but whatever, it still works.”
“I see,” replied Mika with understanding. While surveying the scattered shuriken, she shook her head. “But still, it didn’t prove to be of much help to you.”
Kiyomi smiled and posed a question, “Who said that the attack was supposed to cause any harm?” But before Mika could comprehend, Kiyomi extended her left hand, and suddenly, a network of steel wire materialized around Mika, ensnaring her in a web. “Let’s see how you dodge against this…”
Mika was taken aback. “This?” The web of steel wires proved to be razor-sharp, with some strands already cutting through her skin and drawing blood. In this precarious situation, any wrong move could result in the loss of limbs or even her life.
Despite the pain inflicted by the exceptionally sharp wires, Mika smiled with exhilaration. “Yes, this is it. This is the kind of fight I wanted!”
“There’s more where that came from!” shouted Kiyomi as she formed hand signs with her left hand and unleashed another burst of fire. ‘Fire Style: Dragon Fire Jutsu!’ She directed the flames along the steel wires, attempting to transform the web into a burning mesh.
“Uh oh… this might be a little too dangerous for me…” panicked Mika. Recognizing the peril of coming into contact with fire that could engulf her entire body, she hastily performed hand signs. ‘Body Manipulation Style: Shrinking Jutsu!’
In an instant, her body regressed to that of a five or six-year-old, granting her the chance to escape the fiery web entangling her. Without wasting any time, she darted toward Kiyomi, aiming to conclude the fight with a single decisive move.
“Even such a technique?” Kiyomi was caught off guard by the revelation that Mika could even alter her body’s size. It wasn’t a mere transformation jutsu; Mika had genuinely reduced the size of her body. Kiyomi found herself unable to react as Mika suddenly appeared in front of her.
“This Kekkei Genkai of mine allows me to perfectly control my body as well as transform it into any inanimate object I desire… so something like regressing the size of my body is naturally within the realm of possibilities,” explained Mika as she converted her fists into metal and delivered a decisive blow to Kiyomi.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
One after another, several punches landed on Kiyomi—her face, her chest, and her gut—causing her to cough out blood and collapse on the ground with a few broken bones.
“Heh, I see… it’s really a terrible Kekkei Genkai… I might have been able to win this fight if I could hold on for a few more seconds, but it appears that I am down before that could take effect,” muttered Kiyomi in a regretful tone, losing consciousness due to the severe physical damage.
“Haah… haah…” Mika took heavy breaths as she observed Kiyomi with a tired expression. Strangely, she felt an overwhelming fatigue, much heavier than it should have been. She couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Why am I suddenly feeling so tired? I didn’t even exert this much effort…!’
Seeing that Kiyomi had lost consciousness, the referee appeared in the arena and announced the result, “The Winner is Shimiz–…”
However, before he could finish, Mika suddenly felt all her energy getting drained, causing her to lose consciousness and fall to the ground next to Kiyomi, much to the surprise of everyone.
“This…?!” muttered the referee, stopping halfway. He looked at the judges with a troubled expression.
