Chapter 964: The Anticipation

In an instant, the day of the Graduation Ceremony at the Konoha Ninja Academy had arrived.

Hyuga District, Konohagakure

Neji meticulously inspected the various ninja tools in his Shinobi bag one last time. Taking a deep breath, he exited his room.

Today’s graduation exam held immense significance for Neji. As a disciple of the Hokage, he aimed to excel and secure a place among the graduating students who would receive their Konoha forehead protectors directly from the Hokage. The pressure was on, and Neji was determined to pass the exam with flying colors.

In order to truly fulfill his role as the Hokage’s disciple, he must adhere to this path. As Neji entered the courtyard, he immediately spotted his father, who was patiently waiting for him.

Neji swiftly approached and offered a respectful bow, “Otou-sama.”

Hizashi scrutinized Neji, ensuring that he exuded confidence and readiness. Satisfied with what he saw, Hizashi nodded and inquired, “How are your preparations?”

Neji reassured, “Don’t worry, Otou-sama. I won’t bring any embarrassment to you or Sensei during today’s exam.”

Hizashi took a moment to contemplate before speaking, “Neji, please refrain from blaming Kuroto-kun. I’ve already informed you about Uzumaki Naruto-kun’s situation. As Hokage-sama, it is his duty to protect Naruto. You must understand this.”

Neji nodded understandingly, “Otou-sama, I don’t hold any blame against Sensei.”

Kuroto had personally dedicated the past seven months to training and guiding Naruto. This information did make Neji slightly uneasy, but he was well aware of Naruto’s unique status as the Jinchuriki of Nine Tails. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Neji recognized that Naruto was a prime target for the Akatsuki Organization. Therefore, it was imperative for Naruto to be under constant supervision, a responsibility that Kuroto, as the Hokage, diligently fulfilled.

Moreover, Neji acknowledged the necessity for Naruto to acquire sufficient power to defend himself. Kuroto’s role in teaching and guiding Naruto was a crucial aspect of ensuring his safety. With this understanding, Neji harbored no intentions of complaining.

It’s just that, Neji couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy toward Naruto. Kuroto’s consistent guidance for Naruto only served to tighten Neji’s heart, leading him to question his own worth in comparison.

Hizashi instantly grasped Neji’s inner turmoil. He sighed softly, acknowledging the complexities of the current state of Konoha. “Sigh, these are troubled times for Konoha, and many things don’t add up in this era—the looming threat of the Akatsuki Organization, Aoki’s defection, the intricacies of the main family affairs, and the weight of the Hokage’s responsibilities. Kuroto-kun carries all these burdens constantly, and we can’t truly comprehend the immense pressure he must be under.”

The issue of Aoki’s defection and reappearance continued to stir within the Hyuga clan. To mitigate the repercussions of Aoki’s defection, the main family decided to address the situation strategically.

Several months ago, they publicly announced the supposed demise of Elder Aoyama, citing an illness as the cause. Swiftly, they bypassed the customary rituals associated with paying respects to the deceased body, hastening through the funeral proceedings to conceal the absence of his pair of Byakugan.

The main family’s strategic move aimed to prevent the branch members from suspecting that Aoki was responsible for Elder Aoyama’s demise, thereby minimizing Aoki’s influence. They were determined to avoid any perception that a member of the branch family could potentially engage in conflict with or cause harm to a member of the main family.

While the main family’s efforts might have succeeded in deceiving others, Hizashi, who had a direct encounter with Aoki on that fateful night, proved to be more perceptive. Despite the elaborate facade, Hizashi, with his personal experience, couldn’t be easily fooled by the fabricated narrative surrounding Elder Aoyama’s death.

Aoki had directly informed Hizashi of his intentions to confront the elders of the main family, and the subsequent morning, one of the three elders was found dead. The circumstances strongly suggested Aoki’s involvement, contradicting the narrative of a natural illness causing the death.

The main family, aware that disclosing the true cause of Elder Aoyama’s death would jeopardize the longstanding tradition of the main family’s absolute rule upheld for centuries, chose to conceal the actual events. Revealing the truth would mean acknowledging a threat to their established authority, prompting them to maintain the facade of illness to safeguard their centuries-old dominance within the clan.

The turmoil within the Hyuga clan created a seismic shift, and Hizashi found himself caught in a complex situation. On one hand, he yearned to break free from the constraints of the ‘caged bird’ existence, yet on the other, he harbored a deep concern for the well-being of the clan, not wanting internal strife to afflict his family.

Unbeknownst to Hizashi, Neji, with a respectful bow, voiced his commitment, saying, “Please rest assured, I am only grateful to Sensei and have no complaints! Today, I will use my strength to prove myself to everyone and regain Sensei’s attention!” Neji’s words reflected a determination to rise above the clan’s internal challenges and demonstrate his worth through his abilities.

Uchiha District

Sasuke rose early in preparation for the Graduation Exam, despite outwardly expressing to Kakashi that he regarded it as a trivial matter. Deep down, the significance of the exam weighed heavily on him, as he bore the responsibility of upholding the reputation of the prestigious Uchiha Clan.

As he approached the door of his brother’s room, which is now the room of Itachi and his wife Izumi.

Due to the current challenges facing their family, Itachi decided to marry his fiancé at a young age. The decision arose from the fact that his mother, Mikoto, was occupied with managing his father’s daily life, and had limited time to attend to other household responsibilities.

After discussing their personal problems, Itachi and Izumi concluded that an early marriage would help alleviate some of the domestic burdens.

Izumi, in her role as Itachi’s wife, took charge of household chores, including cooking, laundry, and various other tasks. Additionally, she provided crucial support to Itachi in his dual roles as the Patriarch of the Uchiha Clan and the Principal of the Konoha Ninja Academy.

Following the events on that night seven months ago, Izumi quit Anbu.

Her decision to resign from the Anbu and distance herself from Tsunade stems from the tasks imposed on her by her and the other elders. The act of betraying the Uchiha Clan weighed heavily on her conscience, and she confessed everything to Itachi, expressing her guilt.

Surprisingly, Itachi, understanding the motivations behind her choices, accepted her and offered understanding. For him, the purity of her intentions played a crucial role in his acceptance, allowing a bridge of understanding to form between them.

In the aftermath of her confession, Itachi recognized the need for consequences, and as a form of punishment for Izumi’s betrayal of the Uchiha Clan, he proposed an unexpected resolution. He asked her to marry him and commit to supporting him as well as his family for the rest of their lives, viewing this union as a way to ensure her loyalty and prevent a recurrence of such actions.

This proposal caught Izumi off guard. While they were engaged with plans to marry in the future, the circumstances had drastically changed. They were still teenagers, far from the envisioned time for their union, and the gravity of Izumi’s recent actions added another layer of complexity. Despite these considerations, the urgency of Itachi’s request, driven by the need for her assistance, overrode these concerns.

With tears in her eyes, Izumi accepted Itachi’s proposal, understanding that her commitment was now more than a promise for the future—it was an immediate and crucial support for Itachi in the present. The two teenagers, bound by this unforeseen turn of events, entered into marriage, facing the challenges ahead together.

The abrupt marriage of the new Uchiha Patriarch took many by surprise, but despite its unexpected nature, it became a cause for celebration within the Uchiha Clan. After enduring days of darkness, the union brought joy to the clan, and all Uchiha clansmen warmly welcomed the wedding.

Not only did the Uchiha Clan embrace the occasion, but other clans in the village also extended their heartfelt wishes.

To the surprise of many, with the blessings of Kuroto and Yui, the couple embarked on their journey as newlyweds, marking a fresh chapter in their lives.

The request for Kuroto and Yui’s blessing by Itachi and Izumi caught many villagers off guard, as the depth of significance these two Hyuga clansmen held in the hearts of the newlyweds was not widely known.

Following their wedding, Itachi directed the majority of his attention to crucial clan matters and other significant responsibilities. In contrast, Izumi assumed the role of a supportive, stay-at-home wife, silently contributing from behind the scenes.

This transition also involved her leaving her position at the Konoha Hospital, something she had wanted to do ever since she was asked to spy on the Uchiha Clan.

These days, her primary focus revolves around being by Itachi’s side, offering her support in the various roles he fulfills within the Uchiha Clan and as the Principal of the Konoha Ninja Academy.

Putting that aside, after waiting for a few moments, with a hesitant expression Sasuke knocked on the door, asking, “Nii-san, are you awake?”

Itachi slid open the door, greeted Sasuke with a smile, and remarked, “You’re early, Sasuke!” After a brief pause, he added, “Come on, let’s talk over breakfast. I’m sure Izumi has prepared it, and Kiyomi will also be there.”

Sasuke nodded and said, “Yes.” As they walked toward the dining room, he couldn’t help but ask, “Nii-san, what plans does Otou-san have for today?” His heart was pounding as he posed the question.

Itachi saw through Sasuke’s thoughts and replied, “Otou-san mentioned last night that he and Okaa-san will be coming to the Academy to watch you and Kiyomi during the graduation exam.”

Sasuke halted his footsteps, a hint of disbelief crossing his face. Despite his genuine happiness, he quickly composed himself and asked, “Really?”

Itachi nodded and said, “Yes.” He continued, “You have to perform well today. Otou-san, Okaa-san, and Izumi will be there to watch you. Of course, I also look forward to seeing your performance, as does Kiyomi.”

Itachi could almost see a sparkle in Sasuke’s eyes at his words.

Sasuke nodded emphatically, “Nii-san, I will be like you and easily take the first spot in the graduation exam!”
