Chapter 921: Giving up the Mangekyou Sharingan
With a confident smile on his face, Itachi reassured Fugaku, “So, as long as you give up your Mangekyou Sharingan, there will be no problem.”
Hearing this, Fugaku contemplated for a moment and then nodded, saying, “Very well then.” He proceeded to remove his own eyes with his own hands and handed them to Itachi for safekeeping.
As Itachi looked at his father’s empty eye sockets and the trail of blood on his cheeks, tears welled up in his own eyes. Mikoto approached Itachi, wiped away his tears, and offered a gentle smile. She said, “The fact that we can live and won’t have to bear the disgrace of being traitors, this is already the best outcome for your father and me.”
Itachi, despite understanding that this was the most forgiving option for his father given the circumstances, felt the pain of making his father go through such a sacrifice.
Mikoto continued with a sense of responsibility, “From this moment forward, the responsibility of the clan is on your shoulders. It’s okay to be yourself in front of us because we are your parents, but never show any weakness in front of others.”
Itachi nodded, his determination clear in his eyes. “I… I understand.” He carefully stored the pair of Mangekyou Sharingan he had received and then bowed deeply. “Otou-sama, Okaa-sama, please rest assured. I will protect the Uchiha Clan, and I will never let anyone disgrace us.”
Fugaku acknowledged this with a nod. “Good.” He waved his hand, indicating that their conversation had come to an end. “Now that that’s out of the way, you don’t have to stay here anymore. Go and clean up all the mess.”
“Yes!” said Itachi as he promptly left the Patriarch’s mansion. Once outside, he retrieved a signal flare and shot it into the night sky.
BOOM!
The bright flash illuminated the darkness of Konoha’s night, a signal for the next steps in the plan.…
On the long streets of the Uchiha District, Shisui, masked as Homusubi, observed the bright flash in the sky. He let out a relieved sigh, saying to himself, “Finally, it’s over.” He cast a cold glance at the injured Uchiha around him before disappearing from sight.
Simultaneously, in another part of the village, the second Shisui also witnessed the brilliant flare in the night sky. Understanding the message it conveyed, he too vanished without leaving any trace.
The signal flare had a straightforward message: the Uchiha Coup d’état had been successfully dealt with. As such, it was time for Amatsukami to withdraw from the situation.
…
Outside the Uchiha District
Due to various reasons, including Jiraiya’s injuries, Kakashi had been summoned by Elder Hiruzen for another critical mission. Asuma had taken charge, leading several ANBU squads to eliminate the Rogue Shinobi, Bounty Hunters, and wandering Samurai who had gathered outside Konoha. Meanwhile, Kuroto and Tsunade-hime were confronting the unexpected threat of Satori outside the village. As a result, the responsibility for monitoring and executing the follow-up plan against Uchiha’s Coup d’état fell squarely on Yui’s shoulders.
Yui, accompanied by members of the Hokage Platoon and Shizune, was leading the ANBU operatives tasked with monitoring the Uchiha district. While her concern for Kuroto, weighed on her mind, Yui suddenly observed a brilliant flare that had inexplicably burst forth in Konoha’s night sky. She mused, “This must be the signal flare sent by the Amatsukami members…”
Shizune inquired cautiously, “Are you certain?”
Yui nodded confidently, “Absolutely… Kuroto-kun briefed me on all the details. The Uchiha Clan’s Coup d’état should have been successfully thwarted, and it’s time for us to commence the rescue operation.”
Shizune expressed her doubts, “But with three Mangekyou Sharingan users within the Uchiha Clan, did Amatsukami manage to defeat them without causing any commotion or unrest?”
Shizune’s skepticism was entirely reasonable, and those present—except for Yui and the members of the Hokage Guard Platoon, privy to the secret that Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Shinichi, and Uchiha Itachi had allied themselves with the village—were compelled to contemplate it.
No one doubted Amatsukami’s prowess in defeating the three Mangekyou Sharingan-wielding Uchiha. However, the absence of any signs of struggle or commotion puzzled them all. There were no echoes of ninjutsu, no clash of swords, not even a glimpse of Susano’o, the ethereal guardian.
This peculiar silence sent shivers down their spines.
Even if the Uchiha Clan had been taken by surprise, they were on the brink of war with Konoha, which should have kept their vigilance at its peak. The element of surprise might have worked on some Uchiha shinobi, but it seemed implausible that it could incapacitate top-tier warriors like Shisui, Shinichi, and Fugaku. Yet, the entire coup had apparently been quelled.
Contemplating the level of skill required to achieve such a feat was nothing short of horrifying. Even if they were aware of the situation, Kuroto had sternly instructed them not to divulge this information to anyone else. Thus, when faced with Shizune’s doubts, they could only wear troubled expressions, as if grappling with an insurmountable dilemma. Finally, Kurenai turned her gaze to Yui, the one in charge, and inquired, “Yui… what course of action should we follow?”
After a brief moment of reflection, Yui spoke, “I’m uncertain about the situation inside, given that the Uchiha Clan has taken precautions against the penetrative vision of the Byakugan. Anything could be transpiring within those walls. Nonetheless, I have faith in Kuroto-kun’s plan, and we shall diligently execute his directives.”
Everyone nodded in agreement, saying, “Very well.” Under the protective escort of the Hokage Platoon and ANBU, Yui led dozens of Iryō-nin into the heart of the Uchiha District.
The moment they entered the Uchiha District’s streets, the acrid stench of blood assailed their senses. Yui, her expression uneasy, remarked, “It appears there has been significant bloodshed here.” However, she was taken aback to discover that despite the streets being awash with blood, not many individuals appeared to be deceased.
The streets of the Uchiha District were instead teeming with injured Uchiha Shinobi. As Yui’s group of shinobi noticed the wounded Uchiha Clan members, the injured Uchiha also became aware of the sudden arrival of Yui and the Konoha ANBU. Upon seeing dozens of ANBU squads and numerous other ninjas, anxiety rippled through their ranks.
The thought, ‘Are they here to exterminate us?’ infiltrated the minds of all the wounded Uchiha Clansmen. Their hatred and distrust towards the village caused them to harbor deep concerns that the village might seize this opportunity to obliterate the Uchiha Clan entirely. Gritting their teeth, they attempted to rise despite their injuries, determined to mount a last-ditch defense.
Yet, no matter how fervently they struggled, their injuries rendered them utterly powerless. Even standing proved an insurmountable task, let alone resisting. Shisui had executed his strikes with surgical precision, inflicting injuries that didn’t jeopardize lives but left his kinsmen entirely incapacitated, mere spectators to their fate.
Perceiving the hostile, anxious, and vigilant glares of the Uchiha Clansmen, the ANBU and members of the Hokage Guard Platoon remained on high alert. Despite recognizing the Uchiha’s helplessness, they dared not take any risks.
Amidst this tense and suffocating atmosphere, Yui issued a commanding order to all ANBU and Iryō-nin, “Hasten, assist the wounded before it’s too late. We must not allow any of our fellow villagers to perish!”
“Yes!”
