Chapter 919: Father Against Son
Konohagakure, The Land of Fire
Turning back the clock, let’s return to the time when Kuroto (the Shadow Clone) was still fighting against Satori.
The battle between Kuroto and Satori garnered a lot of attention. Everyone in Konoha was looking up at the sky, hoping and praying for Kuroto’s success.
At the same time, another battle was unfolding within Konoha. However, unlike the battle between the Godaime Hokage and Satori, this one remained unknown to the majority of villagers.
There was only one person who bore witness to this hidden struggle. Nevertheless, what was at stake in this hidden battle was just as crucial.
It held immense significance for the two Shinobi locked in combat and for the woman who was both a devoted wife and a loving mother. Perhaps this battle is more painful for her to watch than any other.
This is the battle between the Uchiha Patriarch and the heir of the Uchiha Clan. It would ultimately determine the fate of the Uchiha Clan.
…
In the realm of Genjutsu, Itachi stands as one of the top masters within the Uchiha Clan. Other than Shisui, there’s no one who can truly match his prowess. Even Fugaku, who also possesses a pair of Mangekyou Sharingan, with one of his Dojutsu abilities focused on Genjutsu, finds himself outclassed by Itachi.
Furthermore, Itachi has undergone the Hashirama cells implantation operation, enhancing the superiority of his visual abilities compared to Fugaku. However, despite these considerable advantages, Itachi has yet to secure victory, and there’s a very good reason for that. The only reason he hasn’t been able to defeat Fugaku thus far is that a few days ago, following Kuroto’s orders, he sealed half of his Visual Prowess in Elder Hyuga Aoyama’s Byakugan using the Transcription Seal. This was done to set a trap for Hyuga Aoki.
As a result, Itachi currently possesses only half of his Visual Prowess, making his battle against Fugaku quite challenging.
Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean he’s going to be defeated. The fate of the Uchiha Clan is hanging in the balance, and Itachi is willing to employ all his talents, tactics, and arsenal to compensate for the lack of Visual Prowess and secure victory.
The blacks and whites of Fugaku’s Genjutsu typically influence the things and people within it, based on the good and evil in their hearts. However, for some mysterious reason, the blacks and whites of Fugaku’s Yin-Yang Prison World had no effect on Itachi. The reason was that a protective scarlet aura surrounded Itachi’s soul, nullifying all the blacks and whites and preventing them from invading his spiritual world or draining the colors from his soul.
This scarlet protection was none other than one of the legendary spiritual weapons, Yata no Kagami. It was renowned for its ability to negate any form of attack, be it physical or spiritual. At this moment, Yata no Kagami shielded Itachi’s soul from Fugaku’s Yin-Yang Prison World, which had the power to seal others’ souls for eternity.
The situation unfolding before Fugaku was not what he had anticipated. No matter what he tried, his Genjutsu attacks had no impact on Itachi. In fact, the more he attempted, the worse the situation became for him. Unlike Itachi, who had Hashirama Cells implanted in his body, Fugaku’s Visual Prowess was limited. Consequently, the more he used his Visual Prowess, the harder it became to keep Itachi within the confines of the Yin-Yang Prison World with his Taikyokuzu.
Soon enough, Fugaku found himself losing ground, as the once black-and-white world gradually transformed into a vivid scarlet hue.
As if aware of his increasing disadvantage, Fugaku couldn’t help but speak, “Itachi… I did not expect that your Visual Prowess would be so strong… You have been able to persist for such a long time within my Yin-Yang Prison World without being affected at all, and not only that… you have started to invade my Yin-Yang Prison World with your Dojutsu.”
Itachi looked at the blacks and whites that had started to turn scarlet and spoke, “Otou-sama… by the time everything turns scarlet… it will be my win… I don’t think you can hold on for much longer.”
Fugaku sighed, “Perhaps being defeated at your hands is the best ending for me.”
“Otou-sama,” muttered Itachi with a saddened tone.
Fugaku shook his head, “Forget it…” As the blacks and whites completely disappeared, he revealed his figure and walked towards Itachi, speaking in a calm tone, “Let’s end this… continuing this battle is meaningless… and I accept that you have won.”
Itachi nodded lightly as he retracted the protection of Yata no Kagami inside his body. At the same time, the invasion of Scarlet in the black-and-white world also stopped.
After dealing with these matters, both Fugaku and Itachi simultaneously withdrew their Visual Prowess, and the battle of Genjutsu came to an end.
…
Mansion of the Uchiha Patriarch, Uchiha District
The father-son duo of Fugaku and Itachi stood opposite each other, locked in a battle that would determine the fate of the Uchiha Clan. Mikoto, Fugaku’s wife, and Itachi’s mother, sat silently nearby, waiting for the outcome. Regardless of the result of their battle, she was prepared to accept her fate.
As Mikoto observed, Fugaku’s stance suddenly weakened, and he knelt on the ground, his breath heavy. At the same time, Itachi staggered but managed to remain on his feet, though his breathing was also labored. Mikoto understood the outcome by looking at their states, but she remained quiet, sitting beside Fugaku.
After catching his breath, Fugaku calmed down and listened to the sounds from outside the mansion. What reached his ears were curses and painful cries from his fellow clansmen. The harsh sounds made it clear that the Coup d’état had failed. However, Fugaku took some solace in the fact that most of them, even if injured, were still alive. If they weren’t, there would be silence instead of curses and cries.
As the one who had led the Coup, Fugaku knew what fate awaited him. With a sigh, he mentally prepared himself for what was to come.
“It seems that the path I was taking was doomed to fail,” he admitted. Then he turned to his son, Itachi, and added, “Itachi… after I die… please protect Sasuke and Kiyomi. If the village cannot tolerate the Uchiha, or if it becomes unbearable to live within Konoha, just leave the village… ultimately, whatever you do is up to you… You have the Mangekyou Sharingan, so you are capable of protecting yourself… make sure to live, and don’t lose yourself to the desire for power like I did,” Fugaku advised his son, his voice heavy with regret.
Mikoto smiled gently and added, “Also… make sure to marry Izumi and have many grandchildren… We will be watching over you.” It was clear that Mikoto was prepared to face whatever fate awaited her alongside her husband.
Seeing that his parents were willing to lay down their lives, Itachi hurriedly responded, “Otou-sama, Okaa-sama, things haven’t reached that point yet… so please do not speak of such things!”
Fugaku shook his head, his expression resolute. “I don’t think there is any other option… And I doubt that those Elders will be satisfied with anything less than the head of the initiator of the Coup d’état.”
Itachi disagreed, stating, “No… Hokage-sama has specifically ordered me not to kill you… He believes that your death will only perpetuate the cycle of hatred and dissatisfaction between the Uchiha and the village. He does not want that cycle to continue any longer.”
Fugaku was taken aback. “What?” he questioned, “Then how will we guarantee that such events won’t happen in the future, and who will take the blame?”
Itachi explained, “There is a way. Hokage-sama has stated that he does not want your death. He only wants you to give up your Mangekyou Sharingan and live the rest of your life in retreat… If you agree to do so, tonight’s events will be treated as if nothing ever happened, and the Uchiha will not be held responsible for anything.”
