Chapter 700: The Demon God Descends
Kaecilius, fearing the Ancient One’s power, left in a hurry and therefore did not know that she had already died.
In fact, the previous complete falling out with the Ancient One had kept him in a state of panic.
After leaving the streets of New York City, he dared not stop for a moment.
Leading the Zealots, he directly arrived at the Hong Kong Sanctum through a spatial portal, and then quickly occupied it at all costs.
As the last Sanctum defense network was destroyed, many giant purple-black vortices immediately appeared in the void.
Clearly, without the Sanctum defense network, Dormammu, who was in the Dark Dimension, was attempting to break through the dimension and descend upon Earth.
He was on the verge of success.
This situation also made the panic on Kaecilius’s face dissipate considerably.
Unlike other Dormammu Zealots, Kaecilius always believed deep down that he and Dormammu were collaborators, or rather, allies.
As long as Dormammu successfully descended, he was confident that he could work with him to defeat the Sorcerer Supreme and seize control of the world.
Yes, even now, Kaecilius still considered the Ancient One his imaginary enemy.
Just as the dark energy in the void became so dense it was almost condensing into droplets, a spatial portal appeared on the streets of Hong Kong.
Subsequently, Stephen and Mordo, along with four other old wizards, and Mike and Scarlet Witch, emerged one after another.
“Kaecilius, you not only killed the Sorcerer Supreme, but you also destroyed three Sanctum defense networks. You must pay the price!” Enemies meeting with burning hatred, Stephen roared, conjuring a magical whip and lashing it towards Kaecilius.
With surging magic, it was clear he intended to take his life.
However, Kaecilius, as the senior disciple of Kamar-Taj, was already quite powerful, and after absorbing dark energy, his overall strength was much greater than Stephen’s.
Therefore, he easily conjured a magical shield, blocking Stephen’s furious attack.
At the same time, upon hearing the news of the Sorcerer Supreme’s death, the last trace of fear on Kaecilius’s face vanished, and he laughed aloud: “The Ancient One is dead? That’s the best news I’ve heard all day…”
“In return, I’ll give you a hint. See the dark energy in the sky? Dormammu is about to descend.”
“So, your opponent will no longer be me.”
Unexpectedly learning that he had killed the Ancient One filled Kaecilius with a sense of invincibility.
At this moment, he even believed that even without Dormammu as an ally, he could accomplish the great task of ruling Earth with his own power.
Therefore, before Dormammu descended, he didn’t mind having a little more fun.
After the reminder, Stephen finally disengaged from his hatred and immediately noticed the dense dark energy in the air.
“Damn it!”
Stephen tried to dispel the dark energy in the air with magic, but he was powerless to do so.
He could only look at Mike for help and asked, “Do you have a way to stop Dormammu from descending?”
As an ancient dimensional demon god, Dormammu’s power was not necessarily lower than the Ancient One’s. Once he descended upon the world, it would be a catastrophe for humanity.
“If Dormammu wants to come, let him come. He probably won’t give up without suffering some losses.” Mike, with his underlying strength, took a very relaxed view of the matter.
For him, dispelling the dark energy around the Hong Kong Sanctum was easy, and even spending a little more effort to repair the dimensional rift there was not difficult.
However, the current problem was that the entire Earth’s magical defense network had disappeared. Even if Dormammu didn’t descend from the Hong Kong Sanctum, he could appear from other places.
This would be the case until the Sanctum defense network was rebuilt.
Therefore, it was better to guide than to block.
Instead of painstakingly preventing him from descending, it was better to let him come over and have a real fight.
This would also let Dormammu know that even without a magical defense network, Earth was not so easily subdued.
“Are you sure?” Stephen, having calmed down, quickly understood Mike’s meaning.
“I’m sure.” Mike nodded.
“Alright then, I trust you.” Stephen touched the Time Stone hanging around his neck.
Having inherited the Ancient One’s legacy, he had previously learned many uses of the Time Stone from her.
Among them, a spell that controlled time loops should be able to contend with Dormammu for a while.
Coupled with having Mike as a strong ally, Stephen’s mood had shifted from initial anxiety to a slightly more stable state.
Then, after discovering that the dark energy anomaly here was causing widespread panic and chaos among the ordinary citizens on the streets of Hong Kong, Stephen whispered a few words to Mordo and the four other old wizards.
Before long, three of the old wizards, having received their mission, went to the streets of Hong Kong to maintain order and evacuate people.
Mordo, after his gaze swept over Stephen, Mike, and Kaecilius’s Zealots, hesitated for a moment before also going to the streets of Hong Kong to help.
“Actually, you have another choice, which is to submit to me and Dormammu. We will grant you eternal life and power…” Watching Mordo and the other wizards leave one after another, Kaecilius chuckled.
A blank check, there’s nothing wrong with promising it.
Anyway, the dark energy spent in the end would all come from Dormammu.
And if the recruitment was successful, when Dormammu descended and saw Kaecilius’s efficient work, he might even bestow more dark energy upon him.
This was a matter of being generous with others’ resources to benefit oneself.
Kaecilius, in this situation, would not lose out in any way.
“You wish! You traitor, you betrayed everyone!!!” Stephen, hearing Kaecilius’s shameless statement, immediately cursed his impudence.
Kaecilius’s actions were no different from a human traitor, selling out the entire world for his own benefit.
And now, he even wanted to drag others down with him.
How could Stephen, with his values, possibly agree?
As for Mike, he regarded Kaecilius as a clown, not even bothering to glance at him.
Moreover, at this moment, he was focused on Scarlet Witch’s condition.
Perhaps the dark energy in the air was too dense, as the girl’s expression had become abnormal after arriving at the Hong Kong Sanctum.
There seemed to be a hint of longing in her eyes.
“Wanda, how are you feeling? Do you need me to send you away?” Mike asked with concern.
“Those dark energies have an inexplicable pull on me. I don’t know if this is a good thing…” Scarlet Witch admitted.
Chaos encompasses everything.
The girl had clearly taken the Ancient One’s words to heart, gaining a new understanding of her own abilities.
As a result, she no longer resisted dark energy as much as before.
The only thing that worried the girl now was that she feared she would fall into that unconscious state again after absorbing dark energy.
“This Book of Vishanti might solve your problem, and even if it doesn’t, I’m here.” Mike thought for a moment and handed the newly acquired white magic book to the girl.
Unlike the Darkhold, which pursued power, the Book of Vishanti, compiled by many great wizards, mostly contained defensive magic, teaching how to resist dark magic and maintain one’s true self.
It had a high chance of resolving the hidden danger within the girl.
Even if it didn’t work, there was still Mike’s sealing technique.
With double insurance, Scarlet Witch could indeed try to absorb dark energy to enhance her abilities.
“Then I’ll leave it to you.” Scarlet Witch took the Book of Vishanti, a slight smile appearing on her face.
For the girl, the Book of Vishanti and sealing techniques were not important; what mattered was Mike’s trust.
That made her feel very secure.
Returning to Kaecilius, after his attempt to win over Stephen and Mike proved fruitless, he stopped making useless efforts.
“You will regret this.” Then, after another snarky remark, he also quieted down, patiently awaiting Dormammu’s descent.
It was at this moment that the dark energy vortex in the void began to flow, and the entire sky seemed to unfurl like an abstract oil painting.
Within the purple-black dark energy, a hint of crimson gradually appeared.
And then, Dormammu, clad in armor and wreathed in flames, descended upon the Hong Kong Sanctum in a gigantic energy form.
“Dormammu, I have fulfilled my promise to you. Now, it’s time for you to fulfill yours.” Seeing Dormammu descend, Kaecilius eagerly stepped forward.
For him, the time for reaping had arrived.
Dormammu had promised him that if he helped him descend into the world, he would grant him eternal life and unmatched power.
“Hmm?” The energy-form Dormammu looked down at Kaecilius, who was as small as an ant at his feet.
It was as if he was trying to recall his name.
To Dormammu, Kaecilius was merely a tool for his descent to Earth, not irreplaceable, so remembering his name was not easy.
Fortunately, Dormammu had never intended to keep his promise, so not remembering his name didn’t matter.
Then, Kaecilius’s dark energy began to flow uncontrollably back into the energy-form Dormammu, and at the same time, his life force and magic also drained away.
It proved that without absolute strength, making deals with demons was not so simple.
Kaecilius had once borrowed Dormammu’s power, and now it was time to repay the debt.
“No—”
As his life force drained away, Kaecilius finally realized he had been tricked by Dormammu, and the expression on his face instantly changed from joy to anger and regret.
His expression was as rich as the Ancient One’s before.
However, unlike the Ancient One, who willingly sought death, Kaecilius now had no ability to resist Dormammu’s collection of his debt.
In a short while, he was sucked dry, eventually decaying into a pile of dust.
The wind blew, and even the dust was gone.
This traitor, who had betrayed the Ancient One, Kamar-Taj, and humanity, vanished so silently.
In the end, nothing was left.
The incident was sudden. The Zealots, who had originally intended to worship Dormammu, finally felt fear upon seeing Kaecilius’s tragic end.
One by one, they summoned spatial portals, intending to escape.
However, escaping in front of Dormammu was not so easy.
These Zealots, who had also borrowed Dormammu’s energy, were suddenly frozen in place, and then, like Kaecilius before them, their energy and life force began to flow back into Dormammu.
Before long, they followed in Kaecilius’s footsteps…
