"We agreed not to have children." Cloud had never said that getting married automatically meant having kids.

In their minds, as long as they had each other, that was enough. Their duty was to protect Nangong Beiying and look after her safety. So how could they have children?

Whether there was danger was one thing; but once a child was born, who would raise it? Or if she got pregnant and then ran into some upsetting situation, what were they supposed to do—drop everything, or drag the child along while they protected Nangong Beiying?

At that point, they wouldn’t just fail to protect Nangong Beiying; they wouldn’t even be able to guarantee their own safety, much less the child’s.

So the best choice was not to have any from the start. By her earlier thinking, she hadn’t intended to marry or have children at all.
