Chapter 583: Where is Big Sister? (Part 1)

"That happened?"

Chu Yunze was taken aback by what Gu Hengzhi said. He knew about the Gu family’s situation and had heard a little about Gu Ke’er, but he never imagined they would suspect Shen Nian was the very same Gu Ke’er who had been separated from them for so many years!

"That can’t be right. As I recall, there’s nothing unusual about Xiao Nian’s family background, is there?"

After his initial surprise, Chu Yunze quickly collected himself. Although he wasn’t perfectly clear on the Shen family’s situation, he at least knew Shen Nian’s parents were both alive and well. She wasn’t an orphan.

"Yes, I’m aware of that too."

Gu Hengzhi recalled the results of his previous investigation into Shen Nian, and a hint of melancholy crossed his face.

Seeing the look on Gu Hengzhi’s face, Chu Yunze felt it was best not to say anything more. He knew how desperately the Gu family longed to find Gu Ke’er. While he couldn’t truly put himself in their shoes, he could understand the emotional rollercoaster of finding a glimmer of hope, only to have it snatched away.

"There’s still hope."

Sighing inwardly, Chu Yunze looked at Gu Hengzhi and offered a word of comfort. He truly, genuinely hoped that Gu Hengzhi would be able to find his sister.

"Yes, our whole family has always held on to that hope."

And it was precisely because he held on to this hope that Gu Hengzhi was even more determined not to let his family continue to be tormented by illness.

Chu Yunze had met with Gu Hengzhi today to inform him of the results of a matter he’d been asked to look into. After they finished talking, the two went their separate ways.

Chu Yunze had originally planned to head back to the office, but after thinking it over on the way, he turned the car around and drove toward the Group.

There was nothing wrong with what Gu Hengzhi had said earlier, but after thinking it over, Chu Yunze still felt he should tell Lu Cheng.

He couldn’t pinpoint a reason; it was just a gut feeling.

After parting ways with Chu Yunze, Gu Hengzhi went straight home. Instead of going to his own room, he headed into Gu Zifan’s.

When Gu Hengzhi entered, Gu Zifan was playing with the stuffed toy Shen Nian had given him. As soon as he saw Gu Hengzhi, Gu Zifan hugged the toy and ran over to him.

"Big brother, you’re back!"

"Yes, I’m back."

Seeing Gu Zifan welcome him with such an excited expression, Gu Hengzhi felt a surge of happiness. However, what Gu Zifan said next left him at a loss for whether to laugh or cry.

"Big brother, I’ve been waiting for you for so long! When are you taking me to find Sister Xiao Nian?"

The only thing on Gu Zifan’s mind was Gu Hengzhi’s promise to take him to find Sister Xiao Nian. So, the moment Gu Hengzhi returned, the boy eagerly pressed him for an answer.

Gu Hengzhi looked at Gu Zifan, a helpless expression on his face. ’It seems my status as big brother has dropped quite a bit in his eyes ever since Shen Nian appeared.’

But then again, when he remembered it was Shen Nian and thought of Gu Zifan’s attachment to her, Gu Hengzhi couldn’t really complain.

"Does Fanfan want to find Sister Xiao Nian that much?"

"Uh-huh, I do."

After saying that, as if afraid he hadn’t been clear enough, Gu Zifan repeated himself to Gu Hengzhi, adding more emphasis to his tone.

"I really, really do."

"Alright then, how about I take you to find Sister Xiao Nian tomorrow?"

"Really?"

Hearing Gu Hengzhi’s words, Gu Zifan lit up with delight.
