Chapter 431: Don’t Really Want to See You

  • Next Chapter

Nanny Xu smiled at Gu Shuxin, then turned and walked inside.

Gu Shuxin followed her, stepping through the main entrance of the Gu family’s villa.

Upon entering, Gu Shuxin saw Gu Hengzhi sitting on the living room sofa, reading a magazine. Although it had been a long time, the sight of Gu Hengzhi’s handsome face still made her heart pound.

However, Gu Shuxin was well aware that as the future heir of the Gu family, Gu Hengzhi was completely out of her league. Therefore, no matter what she truly felt, she couldn’t let it show.

She couldn’t afford to make Gu Hengzhi dislike her.

"Brother."

Gu Shuxin stopped in front of Gu Hengzhi. She looked at him, lowered her head slightly, and spoke.

Hearing her voice, Gu Hengzhi finally lowered the magazine in his hands and looked over at her.

"Sit."

The voice was cold, betraying no emotion. Gu Shuxin acknowledged him and sat down across from him.

"What did you come here for?"

When Gu Shuxin had been sent to the Gu family, Gu Hengzhi had already been brought home long before. In fact, by that time, he had already begun to get involved with the family business.

Gu Hengzhi was certainly no stranger to Gu Shuxin.

However, because of his aunt’s dislike and resistance toward her, Gu Hengzhi had never paid Gu Shuxin much mind.

After all, in Gu Hengzhi’s heart, the only one who mattered was his real cousin, not some substitute who had been brought over.

Besides, the Gu family had never wronged Gu Shuxin or her family in any way.

Since he had last warned her, Gu Shuxin had been well-behaved and stayed away for a while. He wondered why she would suddenly show up now.

"Brother, I just came to visit. I wanted to see Mrs. Gong and Little Fanfan."

It had to be said, Gu Shuxin was very clever. In one fell swoop, she had brought up the two most important people in the Gu family.

Nanny Xu, who was walking over with a tray of freshly brewed tea, happened to overhear Gu Shuxin’s words. ’Miss Shuxin is just like she’s always been, never forgetting to play her little games,’ she thought with a sigh. ’I hope the Young Master isn’t fooled by her.’

"You should know that my aunt doesn’t particularly want to see you."

Gu Hengzhi’s words instantly put Nanny Xu at ease. At the same time, they caused the color to drain from Gu Shuxin’s face.

Saying she came to visit Mrs. Gong was, of course, just an excuse. To have it exposed so directly and mercilessly, however, made her feel utterly humiliated.

"I’m sorry, Brother. I’ve just been so worried about Mrs. Gong, and Fanfan too."

Gu Hengzhi looked at Gu Shuxin. He had some idea of her intentions. The reason he had exposed her excuse so bluntly was because it held no persuasive power for him whatsoever.

During the two-plus years Gu Shuxin had lived here, she and his aunt had barely interacted directly. The idea that Gu Shuxin harbored such deep, daughterly affection that she was still concerned about his aunt long after leaving... Gu Hengzhi didn’t believe it for a second.

"My aunt needs to rest quietly and shouldn’t be disturbed. Fanfan is resting right now."

Gu Hengzhi’s words were so direct, he might as well have said, "You can’t see the people you want to see, so you can leave now."

"I..."

Gu Shuxin’s expression grew even more strained at his words.

’I mustered up all my courage and went to so much trouble to come to the Gu family. Am I really going to accomplish nothing and just have to leave like this?’

Just as Gu Shuxin was filled with indignation and despair, a child’s tender voice suddenly came from the stairs. Instantly, a flicker of hope ignited within her.
