Chapter 394: We’re Doomed, the Group Leader Is Unleashing His Fury

  • Next Chapter

Hearing Zhang Yuanjun’s words, Lu Cheng looked up at him.

"You’ve reminded me, Department Head. This is a score that must be settled! I don’t think the company will just stand by and watch as an employee’s reputation is slandered, right?"

"You... what do you mean?"

"Since you’re so concerned, Department Head, I’ll leave the task of finding the culprit to you!"

"You... you..."

Zhang Yuanjun pointed a finger at Lu Cheng, his face a mask of disbelief. It was always the department head who assigned tasks to his subordinates. But here he was, getting assigned a task by one of his own group leaders!

And the worst part was, he couldn’t refuse! After all, Lu Cheng was right. The company would never tolerate one of its employees being slandered. And as the department head, something like this happening in his department was his responsibility to begin with.

In fact, even without Lu Cheng’s reminder, Zhang Yuanjun had already sent people to investigate. For the rumors to have spread so quickly throughout the company, the culprit had to be an insider.

The very thought that someone inside the company would do such a thing made Zhang Yuanjun burn with anger!

"I’ll find the person, but you still can’t leave right now."

"But..."

"This is a matter of company discipline!"

"I understand."

Lu Cheng didn’t press the issue any further. He turned and left Zhang Yuanjun’s office.

After Lu Cheng left, Zhang Yuanjun sighed. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand what Lu Cheng was thinking, or that he didn’t want to let him go. It was just that countless people were eyeing Lu Cheng’s current position. He couldn’t afford to let anyone get ahold of any leverage against him, no matter how trivial the matter.

As he left, Lu Cheng understood Zhang Yuanjun’s good intentions. He also realized he had indeed been too impulsive. That’s why he hadn’t insisted and had simply left the office.

’Actually, I should trust Shen Nian. I should trust that she’s strong enough to face something like this!’

Everyone in Lu Cheng’s group had noticed him being called away by Zhang Yuanjun. After Lu Cheng left, they even started gossiping amongst themselves, wondering if the department head had called their group leader over because of those rumors they’d heard.

But their discussion didn’t last long before they saw Lu Cheng return. They all immediately fell silent.

After returning, Lu Cheng swept his gaze over the men in front of him.

"Alright, everyone. Two-kilometer weighted run. Start now."

"Group leader, training is almost over for the day! We don’t have enough time for a two-kilometer run!"

Hearing Lu Cheng’s order, someone immediately pulled a long face. Their training had already been intense today. If they added a two-kilometer weighted run on top of that, would they even be able to walk afterward?

’Their group leader had always been tough, sure, but he’d never been *this* tough!’

"This is an order! What, you think two kilometers is too short? Make it three, then."

"No, no, no! It’s not too short! Two kilometers is good, just two kilometers."

The group members looked at each other in dismay. Who would dare to bargain now? They all scrambled to get started.

’We’re doomed. The group leader is even more ruthless than usual! He must have found out we were gossiping about him!’

’What do we do, what do we do? The group leader is on the warpath. Will we ever have an easy day again?!’

While his subordinates did their two-kilometer weighted run, Lu Cheng made no exception for himself. At a time like this, he couldn’t just stand by and wait. It was better to vent his frustration through training.

After completing the training at a pace that far outstripped everyone else, Lu Cheng headed home as quickly as he could.
