Fanfan rushed up to Shen Nian, his face full of distress as he stared at her.

"Sister, are you hurt?"

When Fanfan first saw Shen Nian, he almost thought his eyes were deceiving him. After confirming it was really her, he had started to run over happily. But he’d barely taken two steps when he saw someone push her to the ground.

Fanfan immediately panicked and rushed over. He’d fallen before, and it hurt a lot. ’She fell on the ground. It must hurt so, so much!’

"I’m fine, Fanfan. Don’t worry."

Shen Nian really was fine; she hadn’t even scraped her skin. Seeing Fanfan’s worried expression and how his eyes were turning a little red, she felt a wave of warmth in her heart.

"You’re fibbing, Sister! It has to hurt! Let Fanfan blow on it for you. It won’t hurt after I blow on it."

After saying this, Fanfan stubbornly began to search for an injury on Shen Nian’s body.

But no matter how much he looked, Fanfan couldn’t find any injuries on her.

"See, Fanfan? There’s no injury. I’m really okay."

Shen Nian got up from the ground and pulled up her sleeve to show Fanfan.

"Are you really okay? I’ve fallen before, and it hurts a lot!"

"Well, it hurt a little bit just now, but it stopped hurting after you came to comfort me! Fanfan, what are you doing here?"

"My house is just up ahead!"

As he spoke, Fanfan pointed ahead. In the distance, Shen Nian could see a villa and wondered if that was the home he meant.

’The families who could afford to live here were anything but ordinary. At a minimum, they were powerful clans like the Chu Family. After all, money alone wasn’t enough to get you into a place like this.’

’Shen Nian had already guessed that Fanfan came from an impressive background, but now it seemed his family was far more influential than she had ever imagined.’

’They were probably on the same level as the Chu Family, at the very least!’

"Fanfan, why are you out here all alone? Where’s the woman who was with you last time?"

’Even if this neighborhood was safe, Fanfan was still just a little boy. How could his family let him wander around by himself?’

"I ran out by myself. It’s boring at home."

As Fanfan spoke, his eyes grew even redder, as if he’d been terribly wronged. But upon seeing Shen Nian, he swallowed his grievances and smiled at her.

"I’m glad I came out. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to see you."

"I’m very happy to see you too, Fanfan. But you ran out all by yourself, and your family must be worried. How about I take you home, okay?"

"No! I don’t want to go home! I want to stay out here! I want to find my sister!"

When he heard Shen Nian offer to take him home, Fanfan immediately grew anxious and started crying, insisting he didn’t want to go.

The sight of Fanfan crying made Shen Nian’s heart ache. She hurriedly tried to comfort him, and in her haste, she overlooked the oddness of him saying he was "looking for his sister."

"Okay, okay, we won’t go home. We won’t go home."

Fanfan stopped crying and looked up at Shen Nian, sniffling.

"Can you stay with me forever, Sister?"

"I can stay with you for a little while, but I have to leave soon too."

"Do you live here too, Sister? Then why haven’t I ever seen you here before?"

"No, I’m just visiting today."

"Can you not go? Can you stay with me forever?"

"I’m sorry, Fanfan. I have to go home. I can’t stay here forever."

The courage Fanfan had managed to summon up instantly deflated at Shen Nian’s answer. His shoulders slumped, and he looked completely listless.

After a long moment, Fanfan finally lifted his head and looked at Shen Nian to speak again.

"Sister, can you be my sister? As long as I find a sister, Mommy won’t hate me anymore!"

As he spoke, his voice trembled on the verge of tears. He looked so small and timid, and it was impossible to know how much courage it had taken for him to say those words.
