"Sure!"

Shen Nian didn’t refuse. She was also curious to see what Chu Lingxiu was up to.

Besides, this was the Chu Family’s home. Even in the worst-case scenario, if Chu Lingxiu wanted to harm her, she probably wouldn’t choose to do it here.

"I’ll go with you."

Lu Cheng spoke up as soon as he saw Shen Nian nod. Shen Nian had sensed Chu Lingxiu’s hostility, and there was no way Lu Cheng could have missed it either.

He could refrain from confronting Chu Lingxiu in front of the Chu Family, but he couldn’t just stand by and watch her bully Shen Nian.

"Lu Cheng, Sister Xiao Nian and I might have some private things to talk about. It would be a little inappropriate for you to come along. Besides, it’s not like I’m going to do anything to her. Do you really have to be so protective?"

Chu Lingxiu had only ever intended for the two of them to go alone, so she naturally didn’t want Lu Cheng tagging along. If he came, ’what could she possibly do?’

Seeing that Lu Cheng was about to say something else, Shen Nian took his hand and shook her head at him.

"Why don’t you play a game of chess with Grandpa? We’ll just take a walk outside and we won’t go far. Don’t worry!"

Shen Nian had a hunch that after going out with Chu Lingxiu, she would finally find out where all this hostility was coming from.

"But I’ll be worried."

"Then how about this: we’ll be gone for half an hour at most. If I’m not back by then, you can come find me, okay?"

"Okay."

Lu Cheng thought for a moment before nodding at Shen Nian. For one, he could see that she really wanted to go. For another, half an hour was an acceptable amount of time.

After all, this was an upscale villa community. Outsiders couldn’t just get in and cause trouble. As long as Shen Nian didn’t wander off, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Once Lu Cheng agreed, Shen Nian and Chu Lingxiu just had to say a word to the others before they walked out of the Chu Family’s villa.

The two walked forward in silence. The warmth that had been on Chu Lingxiu’s face just moments ago had already vanished completely.

It wasn’t until they were a short distance from the Chu Family’s villa that Chu Lingxiu stopped walking and looked at Shen Nian to speak.

"I don’t like you."

Shen Nian smiled. ’So she’s finally ready to talk.’

"Why? We’ve never met before, and I don’t believe I’ve ever done anything to wrong you. If you’re going to go out of your way to tell me you don’t like me, you should at least give me a reason!"

"Because you’re not worthy of being Lu Cheng’s wife!"

"I’m not worthy? Then who is? You?"

’Just as I thought. It’s because of Lu Cheng.’

"Of course it’s not me!"

"Then who could it be?"

Shen Nian’s guess was right—Chu Lingxiu wasn’t hostile because she herself liked Lu Cheng. ’But then who is this person making her so antagonistic?’

’And does Lu Cheng even know this person exists?’

"You... don’t try to get information out of me! I’m just here to warn you. You’d better know what’s good for you and back off. Give up your place as Lu Cheng’s wife!"

Seeing Chu Lingxiu’s self-righteous indignation, Shen Nian couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

"What are you laughing at?"

"What am I laughing at? Chu Lingxiu, marriage isn’t a game of house. Lu Cheng and I are legally married. You are the young lady of the Chu Family, so you should know exactly what your behavior implies. As a member of the Chu Family, is this really how you were raised?"
