Chapter 336: What Does That Hint of Schadenfreude Mean?

After all, Liu Fanglan had a history of this sort of thing. Once, she had taken over someone else’s plot of land. When the owner tried to get it back, Liu Fanglan turned the tables and falsely accused them instead.

They eventually got the land back, but only after several months, and the owner had been left absolutely furious with Liu Fanglan.

Lin Jingyun didn’t want Shen Nian to suffer the same treatment.

Shen Nian noticed Lin Jingyun’s concern as soon as she learned it was Liu Fanglan who had taken their plot of land.

"Sister Jingyun, don’t worry about the vegetable plot. I can handle it myself."

"Are you sure? You know what kind of person Sister-in-law Liu is. She’s not someone you can reason with."

"It’s fine, don’t worry! And even if I can’t handle it, I still have Lu Cheng!"

"That’s true."

Lin Jingyun nodded at her words.

She had seen for herself how protective Lu Cheng was of Shen Nian. ’Surely he wouldn’t let her get bullied?’

"Alright, don’t worry. I’m not the type to just stand by and let people bully me without fighting back!"

Recalling past events, Lin Jingyun truly began to feel less worried. ’That’s right,’ she thought. ’Liu Fanglan tried to stir up trouble before, but Shen Nian didn’t let her get the upper hand!’

At that very moment, Liu Fanglan, the subject of Shen Nian and Lin Jingyun’s discussion, was sitting at home alone.

Yesterday’s events had been a complete humiliation for Liu Fanglan, and she now held a deep grudge against Shen Nian.

So, after learning that Meng Sijia had come looking for Shen Nian, Liu Fanglan had quietly followed Shen Nian downstairs.

She had originally planned to watch the young miss of the Meng family give Shen Nian a harsh dressing-down, hoping it would help her vent some of her own frustration. To her surprise, however, neither of the Meng siblings managed to get the upper hand.

After Shen Nian and Lu Cheng left, Liu Fanglan didn’t go home. Instead, on a strange impulse, she followed in the direction Meng Sijia and Meng Chengyu had gone.

Liu Fanglan didn’t dare to follow too closely, and it took her a while to find the Meng siblings. By the time she located them and hid nearby, their conversation was already well underway. She had missed the entire part about their family’s earlier scheming.

Even so, Liu Fanglan still managed to overhear a conversation between the Meng siblings that she considered incredibly juicy.

Liu Fanglan had heard that Meng Sijia liked Lu Cheng. But she never expected that Meng Sijia’s brother, Meng Chengyu, would actually be interested in Shen Nian! And it seemed he was even planning to pursue her!

The juiciest part, however, was that she’d overheard that Shen Nian was still a virgin, even after being married to Lu Cheng for so long!

She didn’t care whether it was because Lu Cheng didn’t like Shen Nian or because he couldn’t perform in the bedroom. To Liu Fanglan, either reason was incredibly gratifying.

’She couldn’t stand Shen Nian, and Lu Cheng was always one-upping her own husband. Nothing would make her happier than to see that couple utterly humiliated!’

Just as she was reveling in her fantasies, Liu Fanglan heard a knock on the door.

With great reluctance, she got up to open the door, only to see none other than Shen Nian—the very person she had just been cursing in her head—standing outside.

"What do you want?"

After saying goodbye to Lin Jingyun, Shen Nian started heading home. But before she opened her door, she thought about the vegetable plot and decided to just go straight to Liu Fanglan’s door herself.

Shen Nian could understand the defensiveness and disgust in Liu Fanglan’s tone. ’But what’s with that hint of gloating?’

When she and Lin Jingyun had run into Liu Fanglan on their way out earlier, Shen Nian had felt the way Liu Fanglan looked at her was strange. This new encounter only confirmed that feeling.

Still, Shen Nian didn’t dwell on it. ’After all, Liu Fanglan just has a weird personality.’

"I came to see you, Sister-in-law Liu, because there’s something I need to talk to you about."

"Well, if you have something to say, spit it out. I have to start making dinner soon!"
