Chapter 292: No Long-Distance PDA

Lin Jingyun was Zhang Yuanjun’s wife. What she’d heard had likely come straight from him, which meant it was 100% reliable.

"You two have such a great relationship. I really envy you youngsters!"

"That’s not true. Sister Jingyun, you’re very young yourself."

"Haha, you’re such a sweet-talker! My kid is already ten years old; I can’t compare to a true youngster like you! But your timing is perfect. Lu Cheng will be so happy to see you when he gets back!"

Shen Nian blushed at Lin Jingyun’s words. ’Actually, she thought her timing was perfect, too.’

She had originally been prepared to live here alone for a while. She never expected to get news of Lu Cheng’s imminent return right after she arrived.

’Wasn’t this the best possible news for her?’

Shen Nian and Lin Jingyun chatted as they walked, and they soon arrived at the compound’s cafeteria.

The cafeteria was split into two sections. One was the general area, which served the standard "big pot" communal meals. The other was a specialty stir-fry section where you could order à la carte.

Of course, there was also a big price difference between the two. The former was for all employees and was basically free. The latter, however, required an additional charge.

The last time Shen Nian had visited, Lu Cheng had ordered their food from this section.

"This is your first meal here, so we have to get something good. Order your favorite dishes. Our kitchen’s chef is quite skilled, so don’t be shy with me."

"Sister Jingyun, how about I treat you to this meal instead?"

"Nope. I said it’s my treat, so it’s my treat. I don’t want Lu Cheng coming back and accusing me of not taking good care of you!"

Even though she knew Lin Jingyun was joking, Shen Nian couldn’t help but speak up for Lu Cheng.

"He would never do that!"

"Tsk, tsk. Lu Cheng isn’t even back yet, and I can already feel the love in the air! You can’t be doing this long-distance PDA!"

"Sister Jingyun..."

Lin Jingyun’s words made Shen Nian blush bright red, and she was suddenly overcome with shyness.

"Alright, alright, I’ll stop. Let’s eat. But I’ve heard you’re an amazing cook. How about we trade this meal for one you make yourself sometime?"

"That’s no problem! Sister Jingyun, you can have as much as you want anytime!"

The two of them took their time with the meal, and they had plenty to talk about. At first, Lin Jingyun was just telling Shen Nian about things to be aware of around the compound. But later, the conversation opened up, and they began chatting about anything and everything that came to mind.

By the end of the meal, Shen Nian and Lin Jingyun had grown much closer. It didn’t feel like they had just met; it was as if they were close friends who had known each other for years.

"Xiao Nian, if you ever need anything, just come find me. And don’t ever think you’re being a bother."

Lin Jingyun had stopped calling Shen Nian "Mrs. Lu" and was now using her nickname directly.

"Okay, as long as you don’t get tired of me, Sister Jingyun."

Shen Nian said with a smile. She was very happy to have made a friend she clicked with here.

"How could I ever get tired of you! I only have younger brothers at home; I’ve always wanted a little sister to dote on! It’s just a matter of whether you’re willing to give me that chance."

"Of course I am! Why wouldn’t I want another older sister to dote on me!"

"That’s wonderful!"

The two, happy in that moment, had no idea that trouble was, in fact, just around the corner.
