Luo Lanqing couldn’t take it anymore.

She never expected such a beautiful woman to call her an animal to her face.

’Weren’t people from the city supposed to be more concerned with keeping up appearances?’

"Alright, time to go."

Fu Mingxue moved to close the main gate.

She had no interest in wasting her time on a woman like this.

’See the kids?’

’Pah! As if this woman deserved to.’

’Hmph. Her mother had painstakingly raised these children. Why should she let someone see them just because they asked?’

Luo Lanqing hadn’t expected her to shut the gate and quickly reached out to block it. "Wait—"

Seeing her move, Fu Mingxue’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

Luo Lanqing’s heart went cold when she met that gaze.

’Why was this woman’s stare so terrifying?’

"—I really don’t mean any harm! I just came to see the children. Since you’re not willing, please take these things I brought for them!"

Fu Mingxue didn’t take the two large bags she offered.

She spoke coldly, "Don’t come back and bother us. If you do, we’ll have a reckoning. A woman who abandoned her two children and took all the compensation money has no right to even mention seeing them."

With that said, she slammed the gate shut right in the woman’s face.

Luo Lanqing stared at the closed gate, her expression frozen.

She stood there for a long moment before picking up her bags and leaving.

Mrs. Fu came out of the house.

She saw her daughter sitting and eating noodles.

She glanced outside, then asked in a low voice, "What was all that about? Was she really..."

There was no need to finish the sentence. Fu Mingxue understood.

"If she ever dares to come back, just send her away."

This was a tacit admission that the woman was, in fact, the twins’ biological mother.

Mrs. Fu’s expression immediately soured.

"What is this all about? How dare she show her face here? Didn’t my son-in-law say he’d taken care of it? Don’t tell me she wants to take the children back!"

At the thought of this possibility, a sense of dread washed over Mrs. Fu.

In nearly two years, she had grown deeply attached to the two children.

Of course, it would be one thing if the biological mother were a person of good character.

But this biological mother clearly wasn’t. A person who could abandon her children before they were even a year old—how could she possibly raise them properly?

Fu Mingxue scoffed. "Some people are just shameless. Don’t worry about it. Even if she wants the children back, it’s not her decision to make."

"They’re our children. No one can just come and take them. Besides, she’s not really here to take them back—"

"Then what’s her game? Is she really just here to see the children?" Mrs. Fu didn’t understand.

Fu Mingxue said, "It’s very likely she’s here to curry favor. Of course, there is one scenario where she might want the children back—"

Mrs. Fu asked anxiously, "What scenario?"

"That she can’t have children anymore," Fu Mingxue sneered. "Otherwise, I doubt she’d want them back."

Mrs. Fu was baffled.

’Can’t have children? That can’t be right!’

’After all, she’s given birth before, hasn’t she?’

’It’s not like you become infertile just because you remarry.’

"You mean—it’s not that she can’t have kids, but her husband can’t, so she wants to take ours back?"

"Mom, why are you overthinking this? Whatever her reasons, those two children have nothing to do with her anymore. You don’t need to pay her any mind. If you see her come around, just send her away."

Fu Mingxue said as much, but she had already decided to have someone investigate the woman and find out what was really going on.
