"Seven thousand," Mrs. Fu said, jumping in first.

Mrs. Qin...?

’How could anyone possibly buy a house here for that price?’

A two-entry courtyard house like this would cost at least thirty thousand.

She couldn’t help but look at her daughter-in-law, who simply winked back at her.

She immediately understood. Her daughter-in-law must have made up that number to deceive her own mother.

"That’s an incredible bargain! Mrs. Fu, since Mingxue got the house for such a low price, we can’t go telling people about it. It would just make them jealous."

Mrs. Fu immediately replied, "Don’t worry, how could I say anything? Even if people ask how much it cost, I’ll never mention the price."

She may not have been highly educated and could only read a little, but she was no fool.

Fu Mingxue had to go to the research institute in the afternoon.

Now that the house was settled and she’d seen her mother return safely, there was no reason for her to stay any longer.

She spoke up right away. "Mom, I’ll leave you to it. I have to go to the research institute for something. Oh, and for dinner, if I’m not back by five, don’t wait for me. Just go ahead and eat."

"Alright, you go on ahead. Don’t you worry about things here." Mrs. Fu was one hundred percent supportive of her daughter’s career.

’After all, with a salary that high, you have to take it seriously, right?’

Fu Mingxue kissed her two children on the cheek and said her goodbyes.

Qin Wenhao wanted to see her off, but he knew his wife was very independent and didn’t need him to.

"Honey, try to come back early tonight if you can. I’ll make you some stewed chicken. Your mom brought it all the way from her hometown."

Fu Mingxue...?

’Bringing a chicken all the way from her hometown?’

’My mom is really something else.’

"Alright, I got it."

She went back next door, wheeled her bicycle out, and left.

Mrs. Qin had nothing to do that afternoon, so she decided to help Mrs. Fu with her work.

After they finished their tasks next door, the two women, unable to sit idle, simply started cleaning the newly purchased house.

As for the furniture, they both agreed it was quite nice and suited the house well, so they decided to keep all of it.

Mrs. Qin had a good eye and knew the furniture was actually quite valuable.

Before it was time to make dinner, she declined Mrs. Fu’s offer to stay and eat and returned to the Qin Family Mansion.

"Mingxue bought the two-entry courtyard house next door to them."

Mr. Qin and the two Qin elders were also quite surprised to hear this.

"She got a bonus of fifteen thousand, and it just so happened that house was for sale, so she bought it. Her luck is really something else! The courtyard house looks like it’s been renovated—it’s practically brand new! It’s wonderful!"

The Qin Family...?

"Mingxue really is capable."

Just then, a voice spoke up. "Mom, who bought a house? Did my sister-in-law buy another house?"

Mrs. Qin turned to see her eldest son walk in.

With a look of undisguised disdain, she asked, "What are you doing here?"

Qin Wenze said, "I heard Wenhao was back, so I came to see him. Did I just hear that my sister-in-law bought a house?"

Mrs. Qin said irritably, "What’s it to you? Mingxue bought it with her own bonus money. And Wenhao isn’t here. He’s at his own home. They just got back and are very busy, so don’t go bothering him."

She knew her younger son’s personality well; he couldn’t stand his older brother.

’So this eldest son of hers had better not go and make him unhappy.’

That made sense to Qin Wenze.

"Alright then, I’ll go find him tomorrow. We brothers haven’t seen each other in a long time."

He seemed completely oblivious to his mother’s disdain.

Mrs. Qin...?

She nearly rolled her eyes. ’Did he really not understand a single word of what I was trying to say?’
