Chapter 575: I Also Have Something Important to Say

  • Next Chapter

Fu Mingxue was at a loss for words.

But since it was all settled, there was nothing to be done.

Just then, Qin Wenhao, who had been listening for who knows how long, chimed in, "Mom, we’ll all go pay our respects to Dad whenever we have the time."

His words made Mrs. Fu very happy.

"Good!"

"Let’s eat first." Qin Wenhao looked at Fu Mingxue. "Honey, go wash your hands. Dinner’s almost ready."

"Alright." Fu Mingxue went to wash her hands.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Fu helped bring the food to the table.

Then she went and called the two little ones out for dinner.

Qin Wenhao scooped a bowl of rice for his mother-in-law.

He then scooped a bowl for his wife, and filled the two little ones’ small bowls as well.

Only then did he scoop his own.

Mrs. Fu took it all in, marveling once again at what a good son-in-law they had found.

Especially the dishes on the table—they were cooked exceptionally well.

Back in her hometown, men rarely set foot in the kitchen.

They believed it wasn’t a man’s job.

"Mom, have some meat." Qin Wenhao placed a piece of sliced meat into his mother-in-law’s bowl.

He hadn’t had time to make a stew, so he had stir-fried some sliced meat.

I have to say, the stir-fried meat with garlic shoots was delicious.

Seeing this, Mrs. Fu immediately said, "Don’t put any more in my bowl. You eat it yourself."

Qin Wenhao glanced at his wife.

Fu Mingxue immediately said, "I’ll get it myself."

’What’s with this habit of putting food on other people’s plates?’

’Can’t everyone just serve themselves?’

At the side, Mrs. Fu saw this and couldn’t help but secretly roll her eyes. ’This daughter of mine is just too coarse to appreciate a nice gesture.’

The family enjoyed a hearty meal together.

"The food was great today. Your cooking is really improving."

Fu Mingxue complimented him.

A smile touched the corners of Qin Wenhao’s lips. "How did you know I was the one who cooked?"

Fu Mingxue looked at him. "Is it that hard to tell? My mom uses very little oil when she cooks, but you use a lot."

Mrs. Fu hadn’t noticed until Mingxue pointed it out.

Now that she mentioned it, Mrs. Fu glanced at the dishes, and her heart ached at the extravagance.

’How much oil did he use for this one dish? With this much oil, I could have cooked an entire meal!’

’Right. I’d better do the cooking myself next time.’

’I can’t let those two waste things in the kitchen, waste my oil.’

Then, she remembered something she hadn’t gotten around to saying.

"Oh, by the way, Mingxue, I sold our old house back home."

Fu Mingxue was surprised to hear this.

She had thought her mother was too sentimental about the house to ever sell it.

"What made you decide to sell it?"

"A house needs to be lived in. If it sits empty, it’ll fall into disrepair within a few years. When I went back this time, I saw our house was full of rats’ nests, and they’d chewed through a lot of things. Since we’re not living there anyway, it’s better to just sell it now."

Fu Mingxue agreed. "Selling it is for the best. Besides, if we ever go back for a visit, we can just stay in a guesthouse."

Mrs. Fu nodded. "That’s what I was thinking."

Her daughter was in Beijing City. Even when she was too old to move, her daughter would never let her go back to their hometown all by herself.

So, there was no point in keeping the house back home.

An empty house would just attract unwanted attention.

"The money from the sale was just enough to repair your father’s grave, with a hundred left over. Plus the thousand from the Fu family’s compensation, that makes a total of eleven hundred. I’ll give it to you—"

As Mrs. Fu spoke, she started to get up to fetch the money.

Fu Mingxue quickly stopped her. "Mom, you keep the money. What would I do with it? Oh, speaking of which, I have some big news to share, too."

"What big news?" A thought suddenly struck Mrs. Fu, and her eyes filled with excitement. "Are you pregnant?"
