Wen Xingnan sniffled, looking relieved, as if a great weight had been lifted. "I’m divorced."

"Divorced?" Qin Mei was stunned. She looked at Wen Xingnan and blurted out, "Because of the miscarriage?"

A miscarriage and a divorce. In this era, it was no exaggeration to call that a fatal blow for a woman. Qin Mei wanted to sympathize with Wen Xingnan, but the woman in question was calm and composed, without a trace of grief or sorrow, as if she weren’t the one who had suffered at all.

Wen Xingnan lowered her gaze and fell silent for a few seconds. When she looked up at Qin Mei, her expression was once again one of calm relief. "The miscarriage was only part of it. The most important reason is that our relationship had fallen apart."

Qin Mei had no desire to hear any more. ’Those who seem pitiful often have a detestable side.’ Wen Xingnan gets a divorce and immediately runs over to her ex’s family home for a visit. Her intentions were obvious.

"Comrade Wen, you may be divorced, but my Third Brother isn’t. You’d best stay away from our home." Qin Mei didn’t beat around the bush.

With Qin Mei having laid her cards on the table, a smile touched the corners of Wen Xingnan’s lips. "Your Third Brother and his wife are about to get a divorce too," she said with conviction.

Qin Mei let out a sarcastic laugh and said flatly, "Comrade Wen, your relationship may have fallen apart, but my Third Brother and his wife are deeply in love. Don’t spread such nonsense. It’s bad luck for their marriage."

"Fourth Wife of Jing, do you really not know, or are you just pretending?" Wen Xingnan asked with a smile.

Qin Mei’s heart skipped a beat. ’Could what Wen Xingnan said be true? Are Jie Jinghun and Shen Qing really getting a divorce?’

Shen Qing’s ex was already circling her like a predator, and now Jie Jinghun’s ex was doing the same to him. If those two teamed up, it would only be a matter of time before they destroyed Jie Jinghun and Shen Qing’s marriage.

’Getting back together with an ex... How can they even stomach it?’

"Oh." Wen Xingnan tapped her forehead as if in a moment of sudden realization. "You and Jing Si just got back from Xiangjiang. It’s only normal that you wouldn’t know about Jing San and Shen Qing’s divorce."

Qin Mei took a deep breath and let out a carefree laugh. "My Third Brother and his wife have Xiao Duo. For Xiao Duo’s sake, they would think long and hard before getting a divorce."

"After Jing San gets divorced, I can love Xiao Duo as if she were my own daughter," Wen Xingnan said with utter sincerity.

"You want to be Xiao Duo’s stepmother? In your dreams." Qin Mei was not about to be polite. ’As long as Jie Jinghun and Shen Qing aren’t divorced, I’m on Shen Qing’s side. Even if they do get a divorce, I’ll still be on Shen Qing’s side. As for Wen Xingnan? She can get lost. Thinking she can be Xiao Duo’s stepmother? Dream on.’

’The Shen Family has raised Xiao Duo from a young age. As if they’d ever let Jie Jinghun have her. What a joke.’

"Fourth Wife of Jing, don’t get so worked up. You’re just an outsider. You don’t have a say in this." Wen Xingnan didn’t get angry. ’After living with my in-laws all that time, did she think I hadn’t learned to take some abuse? As if a few words from Qin Mei would be enough to make me fly off the handle.’

’Worked up? Was I worked up? No, I wasn’t worked up. I was righteously indignant and ready to put this two-faced schemer, Wen Xingnan, in her place.’

"Xiao Duo calls me her fourth aunt." ’I really wanted to ask her who the real outsider was here. Did Wen Xingnan have any self-awareness at all?’

"I *will be* Xiao Duo’s stepmother," Wen Xingnan said, puffing out her chest.

Qin Mei laughed in sheer exasperation. "Nothing’s even remotely decided yet, and you’re already calling yourself her stepmother. Comrade Wen, you may be divorced, but my Third Brother and his wife are not."

"They’ll get divorced sooner or later, and Jing San will marry me sooner or later. Fourth Wife of Jing, we’re the ones who are meant to be sisters-in-law," Wen Xingnan said, full of confidence.

Qin Mei raised her index finger and wagged it in front of Wen Xingnan’s face. "Right now, Shen Qing and I are the sisters-in-law. As for you, go take a hike. Just looking at you gets on my nerves."

"Qin Mei, one day, you’ll be calling me Third Sister-in-law." Wen Xingnan’s patience had run out, and her voice turned cold.

"Get out, get out, get out! If you don’t scram right now, I’ll use you as an ingredient and refine you into an elixir," Qin Mei threatened.

"Humph!" Wen Xingnan snorted in disdain, looking at Qin Mei with contempt. "Refine me into an elixir? Do you think that little medicine pot is an Alchemy Furnace? Refine me into an elixir, yeah right!"

That was a blatant provocation, practically a death wish. Of course, Qin Mei wasn’t about to get charged with murder over someone so insignificant. Seizing the opportunity as she poured the decoction, she "accidentally" splashed some of the liquid onto the back of Wen Xingnan’s hand.

"AH! It’s hot!" Wen Xingnan jumped back, looking at the reddened skin on the back of her hand. She blew on it to ease the stinging pain.

"Serves you right," Qin Mei said, her cold voice laced with mockery.

"Qin Mei, you did that on purpose!" Wen Xingnan roared, her eyes filled with hatred. She had come to curry favor with Qin Mei, and Qin Mei had burned her in return.

"I told you to take a hike, but you wouldn’t listen. You just had to disturb me while I was brewing my medicine. It serves you right for getting burned." Qin Mei poured the decoction she had just measured out back into the small stove to continue simmering.
