Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man
Chapter 759 - 262: Retaliating Against the Gao Family
"Huaxia is my home," Qin Mei said.
"You married Jing Chen," Xu Jiali retorted. "And don’t you Huaxia people say that a wife follows the man she marries?"
"Jie Jingchen is from Huaxia," Qin Mei said.
"Jing Chen is from Xiangjiang," Xu Jiali said defiantly.
The two of them argued endlessly over whether Jie Jingchen was from Huaxia or Xiangjiang. In the end, Qin Mei had to play her trump card before Xu Jiali would finally concede.
The butler was washing a car. Seeing the two of them with their arms slung around each other’s shoulders, he immediately felt a headache coming on. ’What kind of trouble are those two planning now?’
"Eldest Young Madam, Miss Jiali’s current condition isn’t suitable for going out," the butler said, making a preemptive strike.
"Your Miss Jiali was heartbroken by Gao Qiang. She wants to see the state the Gao family is in now with her own eyes, and maybe kick them while they’re down," Qin Mei said to the butler with a beaming smile.
Hearing this, the butler no longer objected. In fact, he was quite supportive. Not only did he arrange a driver for them, but he also assigned them a bodyguard.
Qin Mei looked at the butler’s attentive manner. If she were to invite him along, he probably wouldn’t refuse.
The butler gave the driver and bodyguard a series of stern instructions before letting the driver pull away.
Neither Qin Mei nor Xu Jiali knew where the Gao family was staying now, but the driver did. The butler had just told him.
At the Gao residence, Grandma Gao was cursing up a storm, Mr. Gao’s face was etched with worry, and Mrs. Gao was comforting Gao Qiang.
"Mmmph... mmmph..." Gao Qiang could only make muffled sounds through his nose.
Looking at her grandson—his jaw dislocated, drooling like an imbecile—Grandma Gao’s initial scolding escalated into vicious curses. Her most beloved grandson had been reduced to this state; how could she not be furious?
The crucial point was, the hospital had sent someone to return Gao Qiang with just a single message: he had provoked someone he shouldn’t have. The hospital could do nothing. They were told not to bring him back, because even if they did, no doctor there—not even the hospital director—had the ability to reset his jaw.
"Qiang’er, who on earth did you go and provoke?" Grandma Gao looked at the wretched Gao Qiang, her expression a mixture of disappointment and frustration. The Gao family had fallen. Their enemies were kicking them while they were down, and those who were once on good terms with them offered no help, nor did they pile on. Instead, they just watched coldly from the sidelines.
"Mmmph... mmmph..." Gao Qiang could only manage pained, muffled groans.
"I told you to go to the hospital and beg for Jiali’s forgiveness on your knees! How did you end up provoking someone else and getting your jaw dislocated? Who was it? The hospital won’t even take you!" The more Grandma Gao thought about it, the more furious she became. The Gao family was already in this state, yet her grandson was still out there stirring up trouble.
Look at him now, like a fool. Forget Jiali—even she found him repulsive.
"Mom, don’t scold him anymore," said Mr. Gao. "The most important thing right now is figuring out how to get his jaw reset."
"Let’s go to the hospital," Mrs. Gao said, unable to bear seeing her son in such pain.
"Didn’t you hear what those two doctors said? Even if we take him to the hospital, they won’t treat him," Grandma Gao said. ’I don’t believe the doctors can’t reset a jaw. They just don’t dare to. Someone’s putting pressure on the hospital.’
"We’ll pay them," Mrs. Gao said. She still firmly believed that money makes the world go ’round.
"Pay them? With what? Don’t you have any idea what kind of situation the Gao family is in right now? Do you have any money?" Grandma Gao asked irritably.
Mrs. Gao gritted her teeth and shot a look at Mr. Gao, but he pretended not to understand. She glared at him before turning back to Grandma Gao. "Mom, we may not have money, but you do."
’So they are after my money,’ Grandma Gao thought. ’This daughter-in-law won’t rest until she’s taken every last penny of my funeral savings.’
"I don’t have any money," Grandma Gao said.
"Mom, at a time like this, can’t we all just be on the same side?" Mrs. Gao clearly wasn’t giving up.
Grandma Gao frowned. "I only have a little bit saved up. That money is meant to be used for a real emergency."
"Look at Xiao Qiang! He’s in this state, and you don’t call this a real emergency? Mom, I’m begging you. Have pity on Xiao Qiang, please save him, won’t you? Aren’t you the one who dotes on him the most? Can you really bear to watch him suffer like this?" Mrs. Gao pushed Gao Qiang toward Grandma Gao.
Grandma Gao looked away. ’I can’t go soft. If I give in once, they’ll have me wrapped around their little finger.’
"How about... we take him to the hospital—"
"Mom, be realistic! The hospital has already refused to admit Xiao Qiang," Mrs. Gao interrupted.
"What are you yelling for? Can’t you let me finish speaking?" Grandma Gao raised her voice.
"Let Mom finish," Mr. Gao said, tugging on Mrs. Gao.
Mrs. Gao glared at her husband. ’He and his mother are two of a kind.’
Grandma Gao took a deep breath and presented her grand theory. "Jiali is staying in the hospital. We’ll take Qiang’er to her room. Jiali loves Qiang’er so much, when she sees him like this, her heart is sure to soften."
