Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man
Chapter 631 - 220: I Really Didn’t Know About This (2)
Qin Mei stared, utterly baffled, as Ah Bing sped away on his bicycle.
"Did he not see us?" Qin Mei asked Jie Jingchen.
"Probably," Jie Jingchen replied, sounding unsure.
Qin Mei was speechless. How could he possibly not have seen them?
"Follow him." Qin Mei decisively shut the car door and told Jie Jingchen to turn around and give chase. Now that Ah Bing was out, there was no point in going to his house anymore.
Jie Jingchen stomped on the gas while Qin Mei frantically honked the horn. Ah Bing pedaled for dear life. The more Qin Mei honked, the harder Ah Bing pedaled.
Qin Mei wanted to curse. Her frantic honking was starting to affect Jie Jingchen’s driving. "Jie Jingsi, floor it and overtake him!"
Watching Ah Bing’s reckless speed, Jie Jingchen broke out in a cold sweat for him. He accelerated slightly and easily overtook Ah Bing.
The car that passed him looked a little familiar to Ah Bing. When he saw Qin Mei’s head stick out of the window, he slowed his bike to a stop.
Jie Jingchen stopped the car as well. Qin Mei opened her door, scrambled out, and planted her hands on her hips. Fuming, she demanded, "What’s the big rush?"
’Are you trying to get yourself killed?’ Qin Mei bit the words back.
"Sister-in-law, what a coincidence!" Ah Bing said, rubbing his nose sheepishly. Young men were proud; the more you rushed them, the more they’d dig their heels in.
"What’s so coincidental about it? We were on our way to your house," Qin Mei said, taking a deep breath to calm her anger.
"That’s a coincidence too, running into each other halfway," Ah Bing said with a chuckle. Then he asked, "Sister-in-law, has that distant relative of yours arrived?"
Needing a favor from him, Qin Mei’s attitude did a complete 180. A radiant smile bloomed on her face. "He’s here! Uncle, get out of the car."
Zhang Haoyuan didn’t move from his seat in the car. Jie Jingchen turned his head and stared coldly at him, noting his strangely tense expression. There was unconcealed displeasure in Jie Jingchen’s eyes. "Get out."
Zhang Haoyuan met Jie Jingchen’s icy gaze and swallowed hard. "They’ll see through the act. Why don’t we... reconsider this?"
Hearing this, Jie Jingchen’s expression darkened. He let out a cold sneer, his voice dropping to a deep, frigid tone. "Did my wife not make it clear to you? The introduction letter in your hand is real."
A bitter smile touched Zhang Haoyuan’s lips. "It has nothing to do with the introduction letter."
Jie Jingchen sensed there was more to it. A cryptic smile played on his lips, and the atmosphere in the car instantly grew more oppressive. His sharp, cold gaze made Zhang Haoyuan shiver uncontrollably.
Qin Mei angrily wrenched the car door open. She glared at Zhang Haoyuan, still sitting inside, and asked through gritted teeth, "Did you fall asleep in there?"
Jie Jingchen tactfully opened his own door, got out, and stood behind Qin Mei.
Zhang Haoyuan gave Qin Mei a smile that was worse than a grimace. The plan had been perfect, but reality was cruel. Right now, all he wanted to do was play dead or run for the hills. "Sister Qin..."
"What did you just call me? My dear uncle," Qin Mei interrupted, glaring at Zhang Haoyuan through gritted teeth. She had no intention of letting Ah Bing know his real identity.
She wasn’t sure if Ah Bing could be trusted. The fewer people who knew Zhang Haoyuan’s true identity, the safer he would be.
Zhang Haoyuan clenched his jaw. Facing the furious Qin Mei, he said, "My dear niece, there’s been a change of plans. My suggestion is..."
"You can keep your suggestions to yourself!" Qin Mei roared. ’Why bring it up now? What was he doing before?’ She took two steps back and issued an order to Jie Jingchen. "Jie Jingsi, drag him out of there for me."
Jie Jingchen stepped forward and, without another word, hauled the man out of the car.
Satisfied, Qin Mei walked toward Ah Bing, who was standing a short distance away. Jie Jingchen followed, dragging Zhang Haoyuan along. Head down, Zhang Haoyuan stumbled after Jie Jingchen.
"Ah Bing, this is my uncle, Qin Haoyuan," Qin Mei said with a smile, introducing them.
Ah Bing’s expression was a little strange. He stepped forward to size up Zhang Haoyuan. Seeing Zhang Haoyuan’s head lowered, Qin Mei felt puzzled and shot a questioning look at Jie Jingchen.
Ah Bing circled Zhang Haoyuan, his scrutinizing gaze growing serious. He called out tentatively, "Zhang Haoyuan."
Qin Mei froze, stunned. Jie Jingchen also faltered for a moment. This was bad. The two of them were acquaintances.
She had thought Zhang Haoyuan was the fool, but it turned out the joke was on her.
Hearing Ah Bing call his name, Zhang Haoyuan didn’t look up. He just lowered his head even further, looking as guilty as sin.
Qin Mei slapped a hand to her forehead. ’It’s over. They really do know each other. No wonder Zhang Haoyuan didn’t want to get out of the car. No wonder he said the plan had changed.’
"Ah Bing, you’ve got the wrong person. This is my uncle, Qin Haoyuan." What else could Qin Mei do? She had to deny it to her last breath.
