Reborn as The Seventh Prince of Eternal Winter
Chapter 102: THE PANDORA’S CODEX ARC; Eclipse Brand: Absolute Quell
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: THE PANDORA’S CODEX ARC; Eclipse Brand: Absolute Quell
The forest held its breath. Leaves hung motionless. The barrier stood silent, its usual low hum swallowed by the weight of the moment. And Duke Aldric continued to smile that small, empty smile—polite, controlled, and utterly without warmth—waiting, with infinite patience, for the Seventh Prince to understand exactly how deep the game had become.
Blood still ran warm down Theon’s side where Noel’s last strike had torn through flesh and armor. Limit Break still burned through his veins, the borrowed strength of a sacrificed year roaring under his skin like a second heart. His muscles trembled with residual power. His vision sharpened to a predator’s clarity. Every instinct screamed that he should already be moving, already attacking, already ending the threat in front of him.
Instead he stood frozen, staring at the man who had orchestrated everything.
"You," Theon said, voice rough with shock and fury. "It was you. All of it."
Aldric inclined his head a fraction, as though acknowledging a minor social courtesy. "Seventh Prince. You’ve caused me more trouble than expected for someone so recently awakened."
Theon’s hands curled into fists. The air around him warped faintly with the pressure of Limit Break. "You sent Noel. You set the board. You watched from the shadows while I bled."
"I observed," Aldric corrected gently. "Observation is necessary when dealing with variables of your magnitude."
Theon took a step forward, boots crushing dead leaves. "I’m not a variable but I’m the one who’s going to kill you."
Aldric’s smile did not change. "That is precisely why we are having this conversation."
He spoke as if discussing the weather, or the proper arrangement of a dinner table. There was no anger in his voice, no hatred, no personal vendetta. Only a calm, clinical certainty that made the words more poisonous than any scream could have been.
"Your power," Aldric continued, "is not merely strong. It is unbounded in potential. A force that grows by consuming years of life, that rewrites the body’s limits, that can escalate without clear ceiling. Left uncontrolled, such power does not remain a personal asset. It becomes a systemic threat. History is littered with the corpses of those who believed otherwise."
Theon’s jaw tightened. "So you decided to erase me before I could become inconvenient."
"I decided to remove a risk before it matured into catastrophe," Aldric replied. "That is not malice, Seventh Prince. It is maintenance. When a tool becomes too dangerous to leave free, it is either broken or caged. Sentiment has no place in the equation."
Theon laughed once, a harsh, broken sound. "You talk like I’m already dead."
"Not yet," Aldric said. "But the outcome is already written. You simply have not accepted the final line."
Something snapped inside Theon. The exhaustion, the pain, the year he had already burned—all of it funneled into pure, stubborn refusal. He refused to stand there and be dissected like a specimen or to listen to a man in a perfect suit explain why his existence was an inconvenience that needed deleting.
Limit Break surged. Power flooded his limbs. Theon launched himself forward with everything he had left, fist cocked, mana screaming through his circuits, the full weight of his stolen strength aimed at Aldric’s throat.
Aldric did not flinch neither did he raise a hand. He simply looked at Theon with those empty, polite eyes and spoke a single word.
"Eclipse Brand: Absolute Quell."
The world stopped.
An invisible force slammed into Theon with the weight of iron chains forged from pure authority. His body locked mid-stride. Muscles seized. Joints froze. The punch that should have shattered bone hung uselessly in the air, inches from completion. His lungs still worked. His heart still hammered. But every voluntary movement had been stripped away as cleanly as a surgeon cutting a tendon.
Theon tried to force his legs to move. Nothing. He tried to twist his shoulders, to shift his weight, to even curl a finger. His body remained a statue, locked in the exact posture of the aborted attack.
Panic flared white-hot behind his eyes.
Limit Break—the power he had paid a year of his life to seize—flickered. The roaring aura that had let him dominate Noel collapsed inward like a dying star. The borrowed strength drained from his veins in a single, sickening rush. The overwhelming presence that had filled the clearing vanished, leaving only an injured, exhausted prince suspended in the air by an unseen cage.
A cold, mechanical chime rang inside his mind.

Theon’s eyes widened. He could still think. He could still feel the burn of his wounds and the frantic pounding of his heart. But he could do nothing with any of it. The system that had guided him, the power that had saved him moments earlier, the very body he inhabited—everything had been shut down with one quiet word.
"What... did you do?" The words escaped as a strained whisper, the only movement his frozen throat would allow.
Aldric regarded him with mild interest, the way a scholar might examine a specimen that had finally stopped struggling. "I imposed a boundary. Your power is impressive, but it still operates within rules. And rules can be rewritten by those who understand the deeper architecture."
Theon strained against the invisible restraints until blood vessels stood out along his neck. Nothing yielded. The more he fought, the clearer the truth became: the gap between them was not a matter of strength or experience. It was categorical. Aldric was not fighting on the same board.
"You cannot move," Aldric observed, almost kindly. "You cannot use your skills. You cannot even maintain the desperate state you purchased with your own lifespan. That is the nature of true control, Seventh Prince. It does not need to overpower you. It simply removes the possibility of resistance."
Theon’s breath came in short, shallow bursts. Fury and terror warred inside a body that would not obey him. He wanted to scream. He wanted to tear the man’s throat out with his teeth if that was all he had left. Instead he hung there, suspended in mid-air by an authority he could neither see nor touch, while the man who had decided he should not exist continued to speak in that same soft, reasonable tone.
Aldric took a single step closer. The forest remained utterly still around them, as though the trees themselves understood that something irreversible had occurred.
"You were never meant to reach this far," he said. "But now that you have, the only remaining question is how cleanly the threat is removed."
Theon’s mind raced, searching for any crack, any loophole, any residual spark of power that the World Archive’s emergency report might have missed. There was nothing. Limit Break was gone. Skills were locked. Spells refused to form. His body remained a prison of flesh and bone that no longer answered to him.
He could only watch as Duke Aldric stood before him, impeccable and calm, the small empty smile still resting on his lips, waiting once more—patient, absolute, and utterly certain—for the Seventh Prince to understand that the game had already been decided long before he ever stepped onto the board.
