Chapter 727: Lazarus Cadaver
Chapter 727: Lazarus Cadaver
Lucius finally noticed the unmistakable sheen on Braxton’s carrot wand. It was unmistakable. It wasn’t like the other Mithril Relic wands with rusted handles of broken-off tips. This was a Mithril Artifact in its purest conditions, only seen in the weapons wielded by Michael and his company.
“That’s… that’s… that’s a Mithril Artifact!” he exclaimed. “He gave that to you?!”
“Yep! That’s my bestie!” bragged Braxton as he waved his new wand around.
Michael still felt bad about getting Braxton in trouble, so he quickly tried to apologize on his behalf.
“Hey, I’ll return the books,” he said. “I’m just about finished reading them anyway—”
But before he could even finish his sentence, Lucius suddenly grabbed his shoulders and looked at him with intense desperation.
“Do you need more? I can get you more. I’ll ransack the entire Guild of Arcana for you!” Lucius declared.
If Braxton could get his own customized Mithril Artifact in exchange for some few documents that probably wasn’t even that important to the Guild, then Lucius was willing to do even more than that to get one himself.
He was even willing to commit crimes to get whatever Michael wanted.
“Michael… I’ll do anything for a wand,” Lucius begged. “Just tell me what to do!”
Seeing a Tower Master begging like this was definitely a new sight to behold. He was supposed to be a dignified leader of the Magic Tower, but now, he was even bowing lower than the pigs just to get a Mithril Artifact of his own.
But Lucius wasn’t embarrassed. If other people, heck if the other leaders of the Guild of Arcana learned about this, then he was sure that they would have acted the same way given the chance to get a real Mithril Artifact.
“Okay, you didn’t have to kneel,” Michael said, relenting. “I’ll see what I can do.”
…
…
…
After promising Lucius that he was going to get a Mithril Artifact wand on his own, Michael went back to his room to continue learning about the Elves.
As thanks, he was allowed to have the scrolls and the books that Braxton gave him. He didn’t know if Lucius had the authority to do such a thing, but it didn’t matter. He was thankful.
He looked at the next book called the {Zephyr Expedition by Lazarus Cadaver}
Lazarus Cadaver? Who is that?
His answer was soon answered as he flipped to the first page, seeing the first entry from what seemed to be the diary of Lazarus as he traveled to the Elven Kingdom as well as an introduction of who he was.
{Day 1. I found myself intensely curious about Zephyrs. They’re such weird creatures. They’re not even alive.
Seberus and the other Mystic Masters are busy teaching their own prodigies and proteges for the next generation. But I can’t be bothered. I have to learn more about the Zephrys.
And so, here I am, in the middle of a forest with Zephyrs hot on my tail…}
Seberus?
He didn’t expect to see the name of that old man here. He only ever saw Seberus as a chill, laid-back old man who lazes around in the Nation of Reborn without doing anything, that he forgot that the man was actually a genuine Mystic Master.
And judging from the context, it seemed that Lazarus was a Mystic Master as well.
I should ask Seberus later about this Lazarus guy.
For now, he wanted to focus on the contents of the diary so he let ChatJK5 do her thing and condense a 400 page document into only a few paragraphs containing the most important bits.
[Most of the book contains the day to day life of Lazarus as he has close encounters with the Zephyrs. He goes into detail about their habitats, their behavior patterns, as well as his opinions as to why they exist.]
Is there anything about restraining Zephyrs or keeping them in a cage?
[Yes. Lazarus made many attempts to contain a Zephyr so that he could research them in close proximity. He was not able to succeed. He was forced to do his research onsite, taking him close to five years to reach a conclusion for his findings.]
This was disappointing to hear. If Lazarus had somehow found a way to basically neutralize a Zephyr’s explosive tendencies, then that would have basically solved his rollercoaster problem.
I’ll have to do an experiment of my own once I get there.
Thankfully, journeying out into the Zephyr’s homeland wouldn’t be that dangerous anymore thanks to Lazarus’ extensive detailing of the whole map.
ChatJK5 showed him the sketch and converted it into a full 3d map, allowing him to see where Zephyrs’ were usually located, or what Lazarus called as hotspots.
Then, Michael read the other thirteen books on Elves, allowing ChatJK5 to basically become fluent in the Elven culture. If he needed to know something, then she could tell him the answer in an instant.
He won’t be clueless anymore if he travels to the Elven Kingdom.
I’ll deal with the Zephyr/rollercoaster idea later. For now, I want to focus on Darkwood.
He basically had everything he needed to start his farm.
Building the technology for automated sprinklers and temperature regulators will be easy. As for the Elven soil, he’d just scoop them up once he goes to the Elven Kingdom.
He didn’t even have to worry about the seed.
According to the Darkwood Experiments book, one could simply splice a tiny portion of stem from a Darkwood and use it as a seed to grow more.
All he had to do was ask Sheina for a tiny little favor, and then he’d have the seed to grow Darkwood.
The only other problem that he faced now was the fertilizer. According to the book, the experimenters found that using Morel Spores achieved the greatest results. It was what the Elves also used in their attempts to grow Darkwood.
Where am I going to get Morel Spores?
He didn’t even know what kind of material that was.
But according to the book, Morel Spores weren’t super rare. They weren’t prevalent, but they also weren’t that hard to find if one looked for it.
So, it was very well possible that someone in Metropolis knows or even sells Morel Spores that he could use.
Back to Metropolis I go, he said as he transported himself into Barnaby’s Vault.
Barnaby would surely know where to find some Morel Spores.
He quickly went up the stairs and entered into his room, finding Barnaby looking over some paperwork.
“Ah, Michael! It’s great to see you. What brings you there?”
Michael told him about his need for Morel Spores.
Thankfully, Barnaby knew just the place.
“There’s this small store called Sporetastic located on the lower left quadrant of Metropolis. They sell all kinds of mushroom spores wholesale. If anyone’s got Morel Spores, then it would be them.”
“Thanks, Barnaby!”
“No problem,” Barnaby said. “If you’re planning on selling your Mithril Artifacts for a very hefty price, then you know where to find me!”
Michael was surprised that Barnaby already heard about the incident in the Magic Tower.
“I’ll think about it,” he replied. Then, he set off to find his fertilizer.
