Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 2456 - 2359: The Great Battle Between Mermen and Demons

It was A Yin who came. Ever since Gu Xu took the precious egg on that adventure at sea and A Yin saved the father and son, little Gu Miaomiao had become good friends with A Yin.

This time, after being wronged by Huo Sining, the little guy didn’t have any friends he could talk to, so he simply ran away from home and went straight into the sea to find his old friend to play.

A Yin caught a whiff of that familiar scent and swam back from far out at sea. The precious egg happily bounced onto A Yin’s head, rubbed against the dolphin’s forehead, and the big one and the little one began darting around in the water, quickly leaving the harbor and swimming off into the distance.

Meanwhile, Huo Sining couldn’t find her silly son anywhere in the villa and finally realized something was wrong. Those few words of hers had really hurt her son’s heart. The little guy got upset and directly ran away from home.

Huo Sining was dumbfounded and hurriedly wanted to mobilize Gu Xu and Yue Shuwen and the others to go look for him—no, to look for the egg.

Yue Shuwen, in a bad mood, said to Huo Sining, "Look for what? If he’s determined to hide, with us lot, other than you, I’m afraid none of us could find him."

Thinking of the little guy who had inherited her Invisibility Skill, Huo Sining swallowed the retort she’d been about to make. The corner of her mouth twitched and she said nothing more.

Gu Xu was much calmer than Huo Sining. After all, back then their son had followed him through bullets and battlefields; he knew perfectly well that the kid couldn’t be judged by common sense:

"Relax, our son’s really capable. No one can get the better of him. Don’t stress; he’s just gone out to play. He’ll probably forget he was angry in no time and come back once he’s tired."

Huo Sining thought it over and felt that made sense. Though she was still worried about her son in her heart, she ultimately held back the impulse to rush out looking for him.

"Instead of that, why don’t you tell us what’s been going on over at Luofu Mountain lately? Why did you say Qibao shouldn’t go out during this period—was there some problem? And how come you just came back out of nowhere?"

Yue Shuwen asked curiously.

Huo Sining was stunned. Being pressed by Yue Shuwen like that, she finally remembered she had actually...forgotten something big!

That Saiji was still hidden in her storage ring!

Huo Sining was instantly thrown off, and it was only now that she recalled how, when she’d called Su Lan before, she’d had this feeling she’d forgotten something, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t think of what it was. Now, with Yue Shuwen’s reminder, she realized what she’d forgotten was to tell Su Lan about Saiji!

That half-mermaid was still waiting for her to keep her promise.

Huo Sining suddenly felt a bit guilty. She would absolutely never admit that this was "pregnant and silly for three years"—she just had too many things going on and got busy and forgot. Right, just too busy.

Right now she couldn’t be bothered worrying about her precious egg of a son. She hurriedly called Yue Shuwen, Zhong Xiaoyao, Qibao and the rest upstairs, then sent Auntie Li and Tongtong away, and released the half-mermaid from the Space.

At first sight of Saiji, except for Yue Shuwen, the rest were all startled.

Even Gu Xu had never directly seen Saiji’s appearance. All he knew was that back then Huo Sining and Qibao had rescued a half-mermaid in that secret chamber behind the ancient tomb, but as for what she looked like, he hadn’t known.

Now suddenly seeing this half-mermaid’s appearance, Gu Xu was still somewhat shaken.

Zhong Xiaoyao, Qibao, and Niuniu had never seen what a half-mermaid looked like either. When they themselves transformed, they would have a fish tail, but their upper bodies were completely human; at most their ears would change a bit, but there were no gills or scales at all.

Now seeing Saiji, with scales growing on her body and those scarlet gill covers, the few of them found it very novel and couldn’t help reaching out, wanting to touch.

Saiji herself was a bit dazed, utterly unclear about what was going on. She’d still been in that secret chamber of the ancient tomb just now, and in the blink of an eye she was in this room, being surrounded by so many people.

After all these years trapped in that dark room, she had long since developed an instinctive vigilance toward humans. So even though she had just emerged from the Space and hadn’t figured out the situation yet, a strong wariness instinctively flickered in her eyes, and she subconsciously tried to retreat.

But the next second, she sensed something off in their auras.

These big and little figures surrounding her—other than that man—the others, it seemed, weren’t human at all.

Saiji froze, then looked at Huo Sining with some hesitation:

"These...are all your kind?"

Never mind that more than a thousand years had passed—even back one thousand seven hundred years ago, before Ge Hong lured and captured her, in the sea she’d lived in she had never seen this many Jiaoren.

It was said that even earlier, the Jiaoren clan had already suffered a devastating blow, facing the crisis of annihilation. The Jiao Clan’s chief had led the tribe away from the Biluo Sea to hide in the Divine Realm. They half-mermaids were the abandoned children left behind by the Jiao Clan, barely struggling to survive in the ocean.

The bloodline of half-mermaids was unstable to begin with; they were the offspring of humans and the Jiao Clan, naturally extremely difficult to bear. So the chance of a half-mermaid giving birth was very low, and by her generation, the newborn half-mermaid bloodline was already scant and rare.

So when she suddenly saw so many of pure Jiao Clan blood, some of them even children, Saiji was hit by a huge shock and almost couldn’t believe her eyes.

Huo Sining had no intention of hiding it and nodded directly, smiling as she said:

"That’s right, they’re all Jiao Clan. You should have sensed that too, right?"

Saiji nodded with difficulty, staring blankly for a long moment before speaking:

"I...I never imagined it. From the time I was born and grew up, I only ever heard my amu say that there were true Jiaoren in this world, able to freely change between human form and Jiao form, but I’d never actually seen one. I didn’t expect that in my lifetime I would really see Jiaoren—and this many of them."

Huo Sining didn’t know the story behind it, and after hearing Saiji say this, couldn’t help asking:

"When you were born, there were already no pureblooded merfolk in your homeland?"

Saiji nodded. "The Biluo Sea is a barren wasteland, with no Jiao Clan left for a long time now. Within the Six Harmonies and Four Seas was once the domain of the Jiao Clan, but ever since the Jiao-Demon War, it has completely become a ruin. The Jiao Clan has long vanished. My amu used to say that the ones who escaped by luck were led by their Sea Emperor to flee to The Extreme North."

Huo Sining was stunned at that and subconsciously looked over at Yue Shuwen.

Yue Shuwen did have some understanding of the Jiao Clan, but suddenly hearing Saiji’s account, she was just as confused, completely unable to make sense of it.

"What ’Jiao-Demon War’? And what is this Extreme North supposed to be?"

Yue Shuwen asked with a frown.

Saiji looked at Huo Sining and the others in surprise:

"You don’t know? Jiaoren were created by Empress Nuwa. From the moment they appeared in this world, they carried a mission.

"All Jiao Clan know that from birth, they bear shackles; they exist to guard the Immortal Remains of the ancient gods."
