Chapter 1932: Chapter 1934: People Living on the Edge

Wang Kui’s words seemingly rescued Yang Qiu, finally allowing everyone to stop staring at her, making her feel slightly better and not so embarrassed.

Although she was now used to going out and meeting people, she still felt somewhat awkward in such a situation, especially since she wasn’t accustomed to wearing makeup.

She glanced at Wang Kui, her gaze likely filled with gratitude, but unexpectedly, Wang Kui also glanced back at her while speaking.

This made her momentarily bow her head in embarrassment, deciding to continue minimizing her presence.

Wang Kui hadn’t expected Yang Qiu to look at him, but he genuinely wanted to help her. Seeing her like this now, he thought it best not to keep looking at Yang Qiu, partly for fear that others might notice something amiss, and partly to avoid causing Yang Qiu any discomfort, as she was just a young woman.

After that, everyone sat together and chatted about family matters. In fact, it was more driven by Yang’s father asking purposeful questions.

"You look quite young, have you married yet? Who else is in your family?"

Wang Kui didn’t expect Yang’s father to ask this, but upon reflection, it was nothing strange. While visiting relatives, chatting about family matters usually involved asking such questions, like whether someone is married or has children.

When with the elderly, there’s probably nothing else to talk about. They can’t discuss wielding swords and such, so he understood.

To some extent, the Store Manager was aware of these things, and the people in the Escort Agency also knew a bit, so he had nothing to hide. "Sir, I’m 21 this year and haven’t married yet. I suppose I’m an orphan, spending years roaming the Jianghu."

Upon hearing this, Yang’s father sighed, "It’s been tough for you as well."

The sigh was for no other reason than the hardship of being a parentless orphan struggling out in the world.

"Sir, it’s nothing, I’ve gotten through it. See, I’m doing quite well, right?" Wang Kui chuckled and didn’t dwell on it.

At this point, Yang Ming’s mother interjected with a question, "At your age, why haven’t you married yet? Haven’t you found someone you like?"

Yang Ming’s mother needed to understand why Wang Kui hadn’t married before considering matching him with her daughter, not wanting to push him just because he seemed like a good kid.

Asked about this, Wang Kui was momentarily stunned, unsure of how to respond.

Seeing Wang Kui didn’t answer, Yang Ming’s mother was still eager to find out, so she pressed on, "Is it hard to say?"

"Alright, since the kid doesn’t want to talk about it, why ask?" Yang’s father promptly interjected as Wang Kui remained silent, then continued, "Wang Kui, that’s just how your aunt is, don’t take it to heart."

A slight awkwardness appeared on Wang Kui’s face, then he spoke, "Sir, Ma’am, it’s okay. Actually, for someone like me living on the edge every day, it’s not suitable to marry and have kids. If one day something happens to me, it wouldn’t be good to leave them behind, so I haven’t married yet."

Learning this was the reason, Yang Ming’s mother felt a pang of heartache and said, "Wang Kui, don’t mind my nagging. I think you’re a good kid and it’s for your own good. Since you have no parents, you should marry and have children to have a family. When you’re old, you won’t be all alone. Look at me and your uncle, we have children and grandchildren all around, isn’t it wonderful?"
