Xiaoxiao sat there doing her hair, and every so often she’d sneak a look at Yang Qiu, then said, "Xiaoqiu, in a bit we’ll redo your hair too. The child’s been grabbing at it till it’s all messy."

Yang Qiu glanced at the copper mirror in front of Xiaoxiao and saw that her hair really was a bit messy, so she nodded and agreed, thinking she’d redo it after her third sister-in-law finished.

Xiaoxiao did her hair quite quickly. Once she was done, she took out her Yanzhi and face powder.

Seeing this, Yang Qiu picked up the wooden comb, wanting to redo her own hair. Xiaoxiao saw and said, "Xiaoqiu, hold off on your hair for a bit. Wait till I finish my face."

Yang Qiu looked and thought that made sense—there was only this one copper mirror, so she might as well wait.

Xiaoxiao dabbed and brushed away, while sneaking glances at Yang Qiu. "Xiaoqiu, I’ve never seen you put on makeup. If you did, you’d definitely look beautiful, because you’ve got a good foundation. Unlike your third sister-in-law here, who depends entirely on makeup."

Yang Qiu touched her own face. She really had never put on makeup before.

Her face used to be thin and dark. In this year since coming home, she no longer had to work under the sun or do heavy labor, and she’d been following a few sisters-in-law doing those egg-and-honey face masks. Her face had recovered quite a bit.

"Xiaoqiu, once I’m done, I’ll put some on you too. After you do your face, you’ll definitely look so pretty."
