Chapter 1926: Chapter 1928: Importance

Yang Family Village

Xiaoxiao and Yang Xia were in the courtyard playing with the child when they saw Yang Dong driving the carriage into the yard.

The two of them immediately picked up the child and walked toward the gate. Xiaoxiao was the first to ask, "Fourth Brother, how come you’re back at this hour?"

Xiaoxiao was puzzled. When Yang Dong came back, it was usually in the afternoon or evening, since he had to look after the shop. He basically never came back in the morning, and yet today he’d arrived before noon.

"We’re having guests at home tonight, Mother told me to hurry and bring them back to get ready." Yang Dong answered as he pulled the carriage to a stop.

He helped his mother and younger sisters get out. Yesterday he’d heard his third brother say that this Wang Kui would be coming to the house for dinner today. His mother had been in such a rush—she wanted to return to Yang Family Village right away. It was his third brother who talked her out of it, saying that coming back late at night wouldn’t help; better to go to the market early today to buy the food they’d need and then come back. Only then did his mother give up the idea of rushing back immediately.

That made Xiaoxiao even more curious. Just who was coming that the family was making such a fuss?

She hurried over to the carriage and watched as the door was opened.

As soon as the carriage door swung open, she saw Yang Ming’s mother, Yang Qiu, and Li Fugui sitting inside.

Xiaoxiao asked, "Mother, who’s coming as our guest?"

Seeing that even Li Fugui had come, she thought, this must be really grand. Did they invite Li Fugui over to cook?

Actually, Yang Ming’s mother hadn’t asked Li Fugui over just to cook; mainly, she already thought of Li Fugui as one of their own. With something as important as inviting guests to the house, everyone in the family should be there, not one missing—and of course that included Li Fugui.

She’d originally wanted Wang Xiangxiang and her family of three to come as well, but they had just gone home, and she figured it was better not to toss the child around again. If this matter really worked out, they’d see each other plenty in the future anyway. If she deliberately called them back again for this, and Wang Kui learned about it and overthought things, feeling uneasy, that wouldn’t be good.

As Yang Ming’s mother got out of the carriage she said, "Tonight, Wang Kui from Third’s Escort Agency is coming to the house to eat."

"I only learned yesterday that the one who escorted your younger sister back home was Wang Kui. He did our family such a huge favor, we definitely have to show our appreciation. So I thought, let’s invite him to the house for a meal. I had Third go invite him, and this evening he’ll come back together with Third." ℴ

After Li Fugui got off the carriage, he chimed in, "He helped Xiaotian and her kid so much, of course I have to come over and thank him too."

Yang Qiu, getting down from the carriage, didn’t say anything. She actually hadn’t planned on coming back—there was plenty to do at the Cloth Shop. But her mother said, since he helped her, how could she not come back, what would that look like? So she had no choice but to come along.

Once everyone was off the carriage, they started hauling down the big bags and bundles.

When Xiaoxiao saw it, she thought, well now, they really are going all out: top-grade tea leaves, pastries, melons and fruit, pork...

Was this them moving the whole market back home?

The whole family headed into the courtyard like this. In the past, whenever they were having guests, Yang Ming’s mother would always ask Xiaoxiao, check whether what they’d prepared was enough, whether hosting with these things would look shabby or not. But now, with Li Fugui around, Yang Ming’s mother no longer worried that the dishes for entertaining guests wouldn’t be presentable.

Xiaoxiao suddenly felt she’d been laid off from her "post," but it was a post she was happy to relinquish. For this kind of thing, if someone else would take it on, she was more than glad not to have to do it herself.

Carrying the bundles, Li Fugui took a look at Yang Xia and the child, his eyes full of a smile. As long as he saw this mother and daughter, he was willing to do anything; he felt completely fired up. He said, "I’ll take these things to the kitchen first."
