Chapter 1921 - 1923: Advising Her Daughter
Chapter 1921: Chapter 1923: Advising Her Daughter
Yang Ming’s mother returned to the Four Seasons Department Store, having completely forgotten about buying groceries.
As soon as she entered the shop, Yang Qiu asked, "Mom, didn’t you go to buy groceries? Where are they?"
Yang Ming’s mother finally realized she was empty-handed and said, "Look at me, so muddle-headed. I went out for a stroll and forgot. I’ll go buy them now."
With that, she turned and went out the door.
Seeing this, Yang Qiu quickly followed, sensing that something wasn’t quite right with her mother. Perhaps she’s getting older and losing her memory; it’s better to go together. "Mom, I’ll go with you."
The two headed towards the market. There wasn’t much to buy, just some oil, salt, sauce, and vinegar, or perhaps some meat.
As for vegetables, there were plenty in the home garden; every time they came back, they took some home, and it was enough for them to eat.
So, the two walked arm in arm to the market.
Looking at her daughter, Yang Ming’s mother felt a pang of sadness. Her daughter had suffered a lot in the past, and now, just as things were getting a bit better, another issue arose. She worried that her daughter might overthink things or get stuck in a rut.
But seeing her daughter being indifferent about it, Yang Ming’s mother became concerned about her daughter’s marriage prospects. She feared that this incident would make it difficult for her daughter to find someone good in the future.
Just now, she went to the Escort Agency and thought Wang Kui seemed quite decent.
So, she began to chatter a bit, "Xiaoqiu, there’s been talk outside about Wang Kui from your third brother’s Escort Agency becoming a live-in son-in-law. What do you think about this? It’s not me nagging, it’s just... even if this talk dies down, no one would dare to marry you because everyone considers Wang Kui that way. People inherently have the mindset of not wanting to compete with Wang Kui. Even at my age, I can think like this, not to mention others. I’m worried that this will make it even harder for you to get married in the future."
Yang Qiu, arm in arm with her mother, responded, "Not getting married is even better; I’ll spend my whole life keeping you company."
"What nonsense?" Although hearing her daughter’s words warmed Yang Ming’s mother’s heart, no mother wishes for her daughter to remain at home as an old maid. When she’s old, without any children, with no one to care for her, life gets really bleak.
"Xiaoqiu, listen to me. You’re still young, and there’s a long road ahead. I’m older now, and you can’t accompany me forever. When your father and I are gone, you’ll be lonely alone. Sure, your brothers and sisters-in-law treat you well, but they have their own families. When you get older, you’ll envy them. By then, it will be even harder for you to find someone, and at that age, those you find mostly have children. Being a stepmother is not easy. Now that you’re young, you might even find someone who has been married but has no children, or if you’re lucky, someone who hasn’t been married yet. But if you wait until later, it will be hard to find. I’m saying this for your own good, so take it to heart."
Yang Ming’s mother was earnestly advising her, concerned that lately her daughter hasn’t been very keen on finding someone new. With her fourth brother, she couldn’t help much; he always said he knew what he was doing. But with this daughter, she needed to sort things out!
