Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito
Chapter 2883 - 27: Commercial Star Management Rights
The victory gained by Jia Yan’s side was transmitted back to the Energy Circle where the Insect Clan Queen resided almost instantly.
For a time, news that this front had actually seized a new Commercial Star not long after Jia Yan rushed over made all the beings in the Energy Circle almost universally jubilant, and at the same time they gained a new understanding of Jia Yan’s combat power.
"Heh, this kid’s not bad. He’d only been there a short while and already pulled off a win like this."
The Insect Clan Queen sat in her own palace, silently reading the intelligence report, and ended up giving Jia Yan a word of praise.
"Yes, this guy is too formidable. He actually managed to string together two victories in such a short time after rushing there."
"Hmph, he’s nothing more than a brute. Do you think those local Galaxy Level Strong Ones are that easy to deal with? If it weren’t for our previous great battle scaring the enemy half to death, just sending out any Peak Warrior of the Mid Star River level would be enough to kill him easily."
Among the group of Galaxy Level existences holding the meeting by her side, some felt positively inclined toward Jia Yan, while others were full of sarcastic sniping. Especially seeing his battle progress go so smoothly, many people felt that Jia Yan had simply picked up a bargain—taking advantage of the heavy casualties and injuries everyone suffered in the last war to run out and scoop up battle achievements. If they themselves had been able to go out and fight, who’s to say that these battle merits wouldn’t have fallen into their hands instead?
Of course, in some respects what they said was relatively accurate. Jia Yan did indeed pick up some bargains. After all, without the prior great war, the two sides would not have formed the current delicate balance, nor would Jia Yan—just a Star River Middle Stage—have been able to exert such decisive positional deterrence against so many enemies.
But even if these Galaxy Level Strong Ones said it like that, Jia Yan hadn’t denied it, had he.
These people were merely latching onto certain points to start attacking Jia Yan.
In particular, several among them, as they talked, kept quietly glancing at the Black sheep, clearly trying to curry favor with this existence who had been consistently unfriendly toward Jia Yan yet had not spoken.
The Insect Clan Queen seemed to have anticipated all of this long ago. She merely turned her head to look at the Black sheep, then said nothing more.
To her, the disputes among her subordinates were entirely a kind of Power balance. Played well, they could even make the faction erupt with greater combat power. This too was a sort of art of power and strategy.
The Black sheep, though he kept being secretly watched—especially by those few who were ostentatiously showing loyalty and kept staring at him as if wanting him to come out and say a few bad things about Jia Yan—today, however, he seemed utterly composed, saying not a word.
After all, for the Black sheep, everyone already knew he was an existence opposed to Jia Yan. If, when Jia Yan had just earned military merit, he still came out to target Jia Yan with nasty remarks, that would be going a bit too far.
The Insect Clan Queen over there wouldn’t be pleased either, because while she was happy to see competition among her subordinates, that competition must remain within the faction, not outside of it.
"Enough. Right now there’s no need for everyone to discuss whether Jia Yan did any opportunistic shortcutting. We only need to acknowledge that he has indeed rendered service, and then address how to reward him."
The Insect Clan Queen gave this mission its formal characterization.
This was a major victory. If even a win of this caliber were not rewarded, then she, as the highest leader, would be failing in her role.
"A single Commercial Star brings us far too many benefits. I propose that this Commercial Star be placed under Jia Yan’s management, and that part of the commercial tax revenue and the trading rights of certain special products be handed over to Jia Yan for oversight."
This proposal came from the Star River Middle Stage existence who lived next door to Jia Yan.
His being Jia Yan’s neighbor, and the fact that their relations were good, had already spread recently, so no one was surprised that he would speak up on Jia Yan’s behalf.
It wasn’t that this person had been harmed by Jia Yan; rather, he felt Jia Yan was indeed a good neighbor. He had clearly sensed Jia Yan’s deliberate friendliness earlier, so his attitude toward Jia Yan had gradually become amicable.
Moreover, in his view, Jia Yan was an existence with extremely high Talent. Back when they first came to the Milky Way Central, Jia Yan had only been someone who could contend with Star River Middle Stage existences; everyone merely thought he could barely fight on equal terms, and no one felt they would actually lose to him. Yet now Jia Yan himself had reached the Star River Middle Stage, and these Star River Middle Stage existences one by one started to believe they really might lose to him.
The several major battles before had all proved this point, especially this time—facing two enemy Star River Middle Stage existences at the front line, one of whom even shared the same Talent as Jia Yan and theoretically could somewhat restrain him—yet Jia Yan still won.
This showed that he hadn’t chosen the wrong friend; Jia Yan was worth investing in.
As for whether this would put him at odds with the Black sheep, this Star River Middle Stage didn’t think that far ahead. In truth, he had long been only superficially cordial with the Black sheep. Otherwise, when he became neighbors with Jia Yan, he wouldn’t have responded to Jia Yan’s overtures.
"Hmph..."
The Black sheep cast a distant glance at this Star River Middle Stage, but he had other friends by his side. These people, united, stared back at the Black sheep together. Even for the Black sheep, this was a bit uncomfortable, so he avoided their gaze and turned his eyes away.
After all, they were all Galaxy Level existences. Even if their individual strength was far inferior to that of the Black sheep, a group joining hands could still contend with him. Compared to the ’collective’ backing the Black sheep, they were weaker, but at least all were subordinates of the Insect Clan Queen. The Black sheep would absolutely not dare, in broad daylight, to deal with so many Star River Middle Stage existences. If he did, the very first one to give him trouble would be the Insect Clan Queen.
