Chapter 1029: Chapter 1033: A Plea at the Door

Under Yunyi’s repeated persuasion, Jiang Jingya finally left after having lunch.

After all, Su Yuemei had already prepared the meal.

However, during this meal, everyone’s mood was indeed affected.

Just as they finished tidying up, the sound of a car horn came from outside the door.

Jiang Jingya lifted her luggage: "Yiyi, Mom is leaving now. Take good care of yourself and let Jingrui handle anything necessary; don’t exhaust yourself."

Yun Yiyi nodded in agreement.

After seeing Jiang Jingya off, Yunyi said, "Third Sister-in-law is facing such a big issue, and not one of us from this branch went. Aren’t you afraid Third Brother will have opinions?"

Huo Jingrui said blandly, "The two of them probably wish we wouldn’t show up, otherwise wouldn’t it be awkward? After all, a couple is a single entity. Even if Third Brother wasn’t aware of what Duan Zhuangyu did, they are, in the end, husband and wife."

Yunyi thought it made sense; who would’ve thought that the always self-righteous Duan Zhuangyu would do such a disgraceful deed? As her husband, Third Brother probably feels ashamed too, right?

After seeing her mother-in-law off, Yunyi turned around and saw Yuan Zining coming out with a basket: "Zining, what do you need the basket for?"

Yuan Zining glanced outside: "Master Aunt, I’ve arranged with Xiaowei and them to gather firewood at the mountain’s foot today."

Only then did Huo Jingrui remember that although they had prepared quite a bit of coal, they hadn’t prepared much firewood for the stove: "Yi’er, go back to the room and rest a while longer; I’ll accompany him for the walk. It’s a good opportunity to gather some firewood."

Yuan Zining was delighted: "Uncle, you’re coming with us?"

Seeing the little kid’s happiness, Huo Jingrui said, "Yes, if we’re lucky, we might even catch a wild chicken or rabbit to satisfy your craving."

Yuan Zining jumped up immediately: "Really?"

Huo Jingrui laughed and said, "When have I ever lied to you?"

Yunyi didn’t stop them; after all, they needed quite a bit of firewood for daily use.

After settling Yunyi back in, Huo Jingrui took a machete and some rope from the utility room and left the house with Yuan Zining.

Just after they left, someone came looking for her: "Is Comrade Chu Yunyi here?"

Hearing the question, Yunyi stood up and looked out the window at two strangers outside.

She opened the door and asked, "Who are you?"

Seeing Yunyi, the man asked, "Are you Doctor Chu?"

Since returning to Beijing, no one had addressed her like that. What was going on?

The man quickly explained: "It’s like this..."

After he explained, Yunyi was truly surprised to learn that the man in front of her was the uncle of the motorcyclist who collided with Duan Zhuangyu.

The man, seeing Yunyi not responding, anxiously said, "Doctor Chu, Elder Yuan told us that you’re now pregnant and inconvenienced. We’re really out of options and are asking you to save my nephew; regardless of the outcome, you’ll always be a benefactor to our Xiao Family."

If it weren’t a matter of life and death, Master probably wouldn’t have sent them to find her: "Since my master asked you to find me, please wait a moment while I get some things from inside."

After leaving a note for Huo Jingrui, she came out with her small medical kit in hand.

Locking the door, she remembered Huo Jingrui didn’t have a key and turned towards the neighboring Lü family: "Sister-in-law, are you there?"

Wan Ruhua was removing and washing her son’s matting: "Yunyi, come in quickly."

Not bothering with pleasantries, Yunyi said directly: "Sister-in-law, Jingrui and the kids went to gather firewood. I need to go back to the city for a while, so I’ll leave the key with you."

Wan Ruhua wiped her hands with the nearby towel: "If Deputy Regimental Commander Huo asks, what should I say?"

As Yunyi talked, she headed out the door: "Just say I went to the City Third Hospital; the motorcyclist needs surgery. He’ll understand."
