Lin Ruoxi had done her homework. She remembered exactly what each Bodhisattva was responsible for.

When the surrounding tourists heard her explaining the statues, they started to gather around. It wasn’t every day you got to hear a beautiful woman give a lesson on Buddhism.

Xue Rui reached out and pulled Lin Ruoxi behind him. "You don’t need to pray. You’re already smart enough. Don’t get in the way of us regular folks."

"Oh... In that case, I won’t pray," Lin Ruoxi said obediently. ’Xue Rui likes his girls a little silly.’

"Rui, want to get smarter?" Gu Muxue asked, rapping on Xue Rui’s head with her knuckles.

Xue Rui shook his head and pointed at the Bodhisattva’s hand. "Look, Muxue, She’s giving me an ’OK’ sign. I figure she must be easygoing."

Gu Muxue glanced up and saw that Manjushri Bodhisattva’s left hand was indeed making the international "OK" sign.

A child shouted, "I saw one making a peace sign, too!"

The surrounding tourists couldn’t help but laugh, and even Gu Muxue’s shoulders shook with laughter.

"You and your smart mouth. Let’s go," Gu Muxue said, her tone light and cheerful.

She knew Xue Rui was just trying to cheer her up.

’Getting out for a walk really is a good thing. But without company, I truly don’t want to leave the house.’

’As long as Xue Rui and Lin Ruoxi are by my side, I’m sure I’ll get better soon.’

’Xue Rui is my medicine—far more effective than praying to any Buddha.’

After leaving the hall, Gu Muxue headed straight for a corner, no longer paying attention to the magnificent, ethereal architecture.

"Not going to pray, Muxue?" Xue Rui asked with a smile.

He could vaguely sense a shift in Gu Muxue’s mood, as if her wish had already been granted.

"Let’s go check out the wishing wall over there." Gu Muxue grabbed Xue Rui’s hand and started walking toward the wishing wall on the west side.

Lin Ruoxi quickly jogged a few steps to catch up with them.

"Go make your wish somewhere else. Ruoxi and I have something to talk about." Gu Muxue suddenly remembered the pillbox from that afternoon. ’With Xue Rui’s sharp intuition, he’s bound to find out sooner or later.’

’She’s probably going to write something mushy and doesn’t want me to see it,’ Xue Rui thought.

He tactfully moved a short distance away, then pulled out his phone and sent a message to Xue Yao, who was languishing at home on vacation: "Yaoyao, mail me that jar of little stars from my room."

’I’ve got some dirt on that girl.’ It was most likely full of embarrassing, mushy stuff.

’Her cringey past from middle and high school!’

’He could hold that jar of stars over Gu Muxue’s head for a lifetime!’

...

After sending Xue Rui away, Gu Muxue and Lin Ruoxi stood before a red wall. In front of them hung countless prayer cards with red tassels, covered in the written wishes of tourists from all over the world.

"He’ll find out sooner or later. We might as well just tell him," Gu Muxue said quietly.

Lin Ruoxi took a deep breath and said slowly, "Okay. I’ll tell him tonight."

Gu Muxue sighed. Lin Ruoxi seemed a little afraid.

"Ruoxi, I don’t want to be the one to tell him. It... it feels like I’m showing weakness," Gu Muxue whispered.

"Okay, I’ll tell him." Lin Ruoxi’s breathing grew ragged.

Gu Muxue turned and looked Lin Ruoxi straight in the eye. "What are you afraid of? He won’t blame you."

"I know..." Lin Ruoxi’s eyes were red. It finally dawned on her.

’She wasn’t afraid of Xue Rui blaming her. She was afraid that once he found out Gu Muxue was sick, he would give all his love to her.’

"I like that Xue Rui is partial to me, but..." Lin Ruoxi broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

Gu Muxue pulled Lin Ruoxi into a deserted corner and gently wrapped her arms around her. She comforted her softly, "Don’t cry. Take your time."

"I... I’m sorry. I’m a selfish, terrible woman. We agreed I’d share with you, but now I’m so afraid of losing my half," Lin Ruoxi whispered.

Gu Muxue gently patted Lin Ruoxi’s back. "Ruoxi, I never planned on fighting with you over him. Whatever he doesn’t give you, I will. Don’t cry anymore."

"Really?" Lin Ruoxi asked weakly.

"Really."
