Gu Muxue smiled. "Shufen, have you been in touch with Xue Rui?"

Gao Shufen gave an awkward laugh. "Muxue, you found me out."

"We're over. Don't contact him anymore." Gu Muxue closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She didn't want Xue Rui to get one-sided updates about her; it was a form of payback.

'Besides, I can get news about Xue Rui through Lin Ruoxi anyway.'

"Did you two have a fight? He really cares about you. Didn't an upperclassman just bring you dessert for a late-night snack?" Gao Shufen found it hard to understand.

Han Wei, wearing a face mask that kept her lips taut, said, "That's right. I remember Xue Rui even brought you sanitary pads before. He even remembered when you were on your period. If a guy pursued me like that, I'd give in within a week."

Gu Muxue propped her face in her hands. 'Xue Rui remembered everything, but I'm not the only one anymore.'

She hadn't told her roommates the reason. In fact, she hadn't told anyone at all.

'The truth was... even though Xue Rui had made a mistake, she still didn't want to hear anyone speak ill of him.'

...

Muxue told me not to contact you anymore. Why?

Xue Rui replied: It's my fault. Sorry to trouble you.

After sending the message, Xue Rui closed his eyes, his thoughts turning to Gu Muxue's psychologist appointment the next day.

Based on what he knew of Gu Muxue, he was sure that girl would be hiding in a corner somewhere, secretly watching him.

「The next morning, the first day of classes.」

Lin Ruoxi was already waiting downstairs for Xue Rui, a freshly bought breakfast in hand. Her eyes scanned each of the passing male students.

Every man she looked at couldn't help but show a hint of envy.

Who wouldn't want such a considerate girlfriend?

"If my girlfriend were like that, I guarantee I'd be up earlier than anyone. Hasn't that bastard gotten up yet?" someone muttered under their breath.

Xue Rui happened to be right behind them. He rubbed his nose, and as he looked up, his eyes met Lin Ruoxi's.

"Up so early?"

Xue Rui rolled up the book in his hand, walked over, and gently tapped Lin Ruoxi on the head with it. She shrank her neck but let him do it.

Lin Ruoxi was up far too early. Although she hadn't called him directly, he had seen her from his window upstairs, which killed any motivation he had to dawdle.

According to his old routine, he would never have gotten out of bed until just before roll call. If he had time, he'd grab breakfast. If not, he'd wait until the middle of second period to eat, as long as he got back before the attendance check at the end of class...

He never expected Lin Ruoxi would be the one to break him of this bad habit.

"I got up early to save us seats. Eat first." Lin Ruoxi handed him a steaming hot bun.

Xue Rui took a smiling bite. While breathing in the cool, refreshing morning air, he playfully teased Lin Ruoxi with the bun, drawing the jealous gazes of many single people along the way.

"I can't believe I've become the very person I used to hate," Xue Rui muttered. Just as he said it, he saw Secretary Li arriving at the school in his car.

"Morning, Secretary Li. We're heading to class," Lin Ruoxi said, taking the initiative to greet him. She then took Xue Rui's arm and started walking toward their classroom.

"Huh? What happened to the red wine and tea I told you to hold onto?" Xue Rui asked, hinting at the matter of her changing majors.

Lin Ruoxi had promised to change her major at the start of the semester, but her behavior just now clearly showed she was avoiding Secretary Li.

'Did she go back on her word again?'

"Let's keep them for ourselves," Lin Ruoxi said, lowering her head and giving Xue Rui a timid glance.

"Weren't you the one who said you wouldn't just be along for the free meals and a place to sleep? Where did all that determination go?" Xue Rui said, deliberately teasing her.

Lin Ruoxi pouted, her voice tinged with grievance. "But... but I just don't have any ambition! I'm addicted to everything about being by your side..."

"..." Xue Rui was momentarily rendered speechless.

It was the first time he'd ever heard someone describe themselves that way.
