"I’m sunbathing," Xue Rui said truthfully.

"Why?" Gu Muxue tilted her head back, looking at him quizzically. She was out in the sun for her military training, so why was Xue Rui subjecting himself to this torment?

"With you working so hard during military training, how could I bring myself to relax in the shade?" Xue Rui said with a serious expression.

Gu Muxue was a little moved. His words had a "through thick and thin" kind of feeling to them.

But she didn’t actually approve of him suffering for no reason. She sighed and said, "Xiaorui, you should just rest."

Xue Rui frowned, twisting open a bottle of water and handing it to her. "If you get a tan after your training and I’m still pale, when we go out together, people might think I’m your kept man."

Gu Muxue’s expression went blank. ’What does Xue Rui mean by that?’

’If she got tanned...’

’Is Xue Rui trying to get a tan so that she’ll look paler by comparison?’

"You tan easily. I don’t." Gu Muxue pulled Xue Rui toward the shaded canopy.

She hadn’t forgotten how he’d looked like a piece of charcoal after his own military training in the past.

"Hold on, let me bring some water to your class." Xue Rui waved to Li Ruihao, and the two of them each carried a case of bottled water over to Gu Muxue’s class formation.

"Senior, is this some new activity from All-Purpose Campus? How come we don’t have any?" a student from another formation asked.

Li Ruihao explained, "You know Gu Muxue from the class next door, right? Her boyfriend sent these."

"Muxue, thank your boyfriend for me!" one of the girls teased.

Of course, quite a few male students looked disappointed.

"So, she has a boyfriend after all?"

"Sigh, I’ve come to realize that all the good-looking girls get snatched up in high school. The ones left are..." a male student lamented.

However, he suddenly noticed several girls glaring daggers at him. He swallowed hard and didn’t dare finish his sentence.

"The ones left are top students with clear life plans. Otherwise, who could have gotten into this university?" Xue Rui added.

"See? Look at him. Serves you right for not being able to find a girlfriend," a girl said in praise of Xue Rui.

The other guy’s words had made it sound like the girls without boyfriends were somehow inferior...

After putting down the water, Xue Rui casually walked over to Gu Muxue, took the girl’s hand, and shamelessly leaned in close to her to take a sniff.

Gu Muxue frowned and leaned back. "Xiaorui, what are you doing?"

"I’m seeing if a beautiful woman’s sweat smells sweet," Xue Rui said, sniffing her carefully.

"And what did you smell?" Gu Muxue secretly pinched his waist.

"It’s sweet," Xue Rui said with a sly grin.

Gu Muxue reached out and flicked Xue Rui on the forehead. "You idiot. That’s because my roommate sprayed a little perfume on me."

"I can tell the difference with perfume. This isn’t the smell of perfume. Muxue, you’re just naturally sweet-smelling," Xue Rui said with a serious expression.

Watching from a distance, Gao Shufen and the others clucked their tongues in amazement. No wonder Xue Rui had managed to win over Gu Muxue. With such a sweet-talking mouth, they also wanted to find a boy who was so good at giving compliments.

Gu Muxue’s face was already burning from the sun, and now, being praised so shamelessly by Xue Rui in front of everyone, she felt truly embarrassed.

A smile played on the girl’s lips. Xue Rui was being especially good at making her happy today; it was as if he would grant her every wish.

She had once been secretly heartbroken in the snow on a dark night because they weren’t at the same university. Looking back now, it seemed completely unnecessary. Couples who were in the same class weren’t necessarily any closer than she and Xue Rui were.

But then, the image of Lin Ruoxi suddenly flashed through her mind.

"And her?" Gu Muxue raised her foot and gently tapped the top of Xue Rui’s foot.

Xue Rui’s scalp instantly tingled. After all he’d said and done, the girl still had to ask that question.

"What?" Xue Rui pretended he hadn’t heard clearly.

"I asked about Lin Ruoxi." Unsure if Xue Rui was just faking it, Gu Muxue stomped hard on the top of his foot.

Xue Rui took out a small, handheld fan he had prepared earlier and, aiming the breeze at the girl, said, "I don’t know. Probably playing on her computer somewhere."

In truth, Xue Rui didn’t know the little girl’s exact location, but she had said she would wait for him to have lunch together. She was probably parked somewhere on the Jiao University campus, playing on her computer in the car with the AC blasting.

As for the pink, portable mini-fan in his hand, this was also something the little girl had designed. In the current timeline, it was a design destined to be a massive hit.

But because he and the little girl had provided too many design schematics, most of the patent procedures hadn’t been completed yet. The electronics factory didn’t have any spare production capacity either, so this project had been postponed.

The little girl had given him one that morning, telling him to give it to Gu Muxue.

Gu Muxue’s eyes lit up. The little pink fan was quite cute.

"It’s for you," Xue Rui said with a smile.

The novel little gadget attracted the attention of many students. They were still fanning themselves with their hats—someone was actually using technology?

Gu Muxue naturally noticed this as well. She asked curiously, "Where did you get this?"

She had never actually seen an electric handheld mini-fan before. Xue Rui was always pulling out some strange and wonderful new thing.

"Oh, Lin Ruoxi designed it. I swiped two of them for us," Xue Rui whispered, deliberately mentioning the little girl’s name at the right moment to try and lower his girl’s guard.

Gu Muxue’s expression went blank again. ’How is it related to Lin Ruoxi again?’

’He said he stole them for them?’

She didn’t believe his nonsense for a second. Lin Ruoxi liked Xue Rui; why would he ever need to steal from her?

Even though Xue Rui had made his stance clear, why did he have to specifically mention Lin Ruoxi? Couldn’t he just have said a friend gave it to him?

She turned the fan off, shoved it back into Xue Rui’s hand, and turned her head away. "Stolen? Then you should return it."

Xue Rui sighed. The girl was too sharp. He held the fan up, aiming the breeze at her again. "I was just kidding. She gave one to all her close friends. As her boss, I’m definitely entitled to two, so I got one for you as well."
