Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start

Chapter 394 300: Still a Long Way Off from Being Scum

  • Next Chapter

It wasn't until that evening that Xue Rui, who had been busy all day, dragged his weary body back to the dorm.

If his paperwork had been finalized, he absolutely would have gotten a place to stay off-campus with the girl. But as it was, he still needed to find Xia Tianjun.

During military training, the counselors had to inspect the dorms every night.

Xue Rui saw the snack bags strewn across the dorm floor and felt a sudden urge to chew his roommates out. But they'd been at military training all day and clearly had no energy left. So, he took the initiative, grabbed a broom, and started cleaning.

"So, Old Xue, what's the diagnosis?" Qian Huabiao joked.

"A UV allergy," Xue Rui said with a sly grin.

Cai Huazhou was searching online for "how to treat sore soles." Hearing Xue Rui, he quickly searched for "UV allergy" as well.

After a moment of surprise, he couldn't help but curse, "This is just a sun allergy? Old Xue, why are you keeping this all to yourself? If you had a way out, you should've said so sooner!"

'He didn't buy that Xue Rui had a UV allergy for a second. Hadn't he been just fine under the blazing sun before this?'

"This thing can really get you out of training?" Qian Huabiao muttered.

"Holy shit, I'm gonna get one of those too," Zhao Chaojie exclaimed, jumping to his feet at the good news. It was only the first day, and the soles of his feet were already killing him. He couldn't even imagine how he was going to survive the next six days!

Xue Rui didn't answer and just quietly swept the floor, wanting to make a good impression on Xia Tianjun when he came by later.

'Could a UV allergy really get you out of military training?'

'Of course it could, but you'd have to get your parents to notify the school, and even then, success wasn't guaranteed…'

'He had handled it by using his startup as the reason. Secretary Li had already given tacit approval for his paperwork.'

'Even if his roommates managed to get a doctor's note, they would never get it past their counselor and the department—not unless one of them actually collapsed from the sun…'

After a short wait, Xia Tianjun arrived at the men's dorm for inspection.

Seeing how tidy Room 622 was, he praised them, "This looks great. Keep it up."

"It's all thanks to our responsible dorm leader, Xue Rui," Zhao Chaojie said, winking at the others as if to brag about his brilliant idea of nominating Xue Rui for the role.

'Flatter Xue Rui now, butter him up, and maybe he'll handle all their cleaning for the next four years.'

Xia Tianjun gestured for Xue Rui to come out into the hallway.

Xue Rui offered Xia Tianjun a cigarette. Xia Tianjun gave him a strange look. 'This kid seems to know every trick in the book.'

He lit the cigarette and took a drag. "What's going on with your health? I heard you requested a leave of absence from the secretary."

'Xue Rui had helped him out with a lot of things while he was away, so it was only right to ask.'

Xue Rui replied, "It's a UV allergy. Neither Lin Ruoxi nor I can participate in the military training."

Hearing this, Xia Tianjun's brow furrowed. 'Skipping military training?'

'He'd have to submit an application to the department for them, and just the thought of it gave him a headache.'

"If you can push through, you should…" Just as he was about to persuade Xue Rui to stick it out, Xue Rui came back from the dorm with a few documents.

"Teacher Xia, I have all the paperwork ready for Lin Ruoxi and myself. I just need you to sign here, and I'll submit it to Secretary Li tomorrow," Xue Rui said. He was secretly relieved. 'Good thing I didn't try to go through Xia Tianjun for this.'

Xia Tianjun took the documents in surprise. A glance revealed a doctor's certificate from a top-tier hospital, exemption forms…

'Huh? Why is there a startup application in here too?'

'Looks like Xue Rui and Secretary Li are on good terms. In any case, as long as he didn't have to deal with the higher-ups himself, he was fine with it.' He signed his name in the counselor's designated spot and handed the documents back.

He walked back into the dorm, found a seat, and began to slowly flip through the materials Xue Rui had given him. The more he read, the more astounded he became. 'This kid is loaded! School just started and he's already launching such a huge project.'

He shook his head and gave a wry smile. Xue Rui was only eighteen and already sitting on millions in cash for a startup. He, on the other hand, was twenty-six and had just gotten an earful from his future mother-in-law about not owning a house in Chang'an.

"Teacher Xia, I still need a faculty advisor," Xue Rui said, pointing to a line on the application form.

Xia Tianjun's voice rose. "Me?"

'He hadn't done a single thing, and now he was supposed to put his name on such a huge project?'

"That's right. I think you'd be perfect for the role," Xue Rui said.

Xia Tianjun quickly weighed the pros and cons in his mind.

The conclusion—all benefit, no downside.

With a flourish, he signed his name.
