Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start

Chapter 388 297: I, Jiang Yuan, Do Not Accept Charity

  • Next Chapter

Jiang Yuan watched Xue Rui chatting idly with the teachers, seething with frustration.

When she heard some classmates complaining about being hungry, she went to ask the teacher in charge.

But the teacher was completely indifferent, saying it wasn't their problem.

The teacher didn't give a specific time, so she guessed they wouldn't get back to campus until around ten o'clock. The students would definitely be starving by then.

Providing a timely breakfast at that moment would be a godsend. From that point on, she had been secretly contacting nearby breakfast shops.

But the shops either said they were sold out or didn't have enough time to prepare an order. Not a single one could guarantee a timely delivery.

Since she was a local, she figured she could ask her family for help and show off her abilities.

But before she could even make the call, Xue Rui's food had already been delivered into the students' hands.

Looking at the exquisite food containers in her classmates' hands, Jiang Yuan knew instantly they must have been ordered a day in advance.

She shot a disgruntled glare at Xue Rui, who was coming over to get his blood drawn.

"You knew all along?"

Jiang Yuan's face was full of dissatisfaction. She thought Xue Rui was too cunning.

"Didn't you talk about fair competition? Opportunity favors the prepared," Xue Rui said with a smile. As he spoke, he led the young woman to cut in line in front of Jiang Yuan.

"You didn't show any real leadership ability. You just used a small favor to win people over," Jiang Yuan said in a low voice, completely oblivious to the fact that Xue Rui had just cut in line.

Xue Rui replied calmly, "An army marches on its stomach. Who's going to care about anything else when they can't even get a bite to eat?"

'When people are starving, the only thing on their mind is food. At a time like this, no one notices anything except what will get them fed…'

'Of course, even if the little missy hadn't mentioned it, I would have found a way to solve the problem. But if it were up to me, I definitely wouldn't have treated everyone to something this good. After all, when you're starving, anything tastes amazing.'

"You!" Jiang Yuan choked back her words.

She knew he was right. She was just complaining out of frustration as the loser in this round.

The atmosphere in the class was fantastic now. Every person who finished their check-up was given a breakfast box and would then join the group to eat together.

Because of this, the class had developed a sense of community even before military training began, and it was all Xue Rui's doing.

A deep sense of powerlessness suddenly washed over her. Once this unity was formed, it would be much harder for her to make a good impression on her classmates during military training.

"I have no use for the class monitor position. We'll see how you perform. I might just give the position to you," Xue Rui said quietly.

'Jiang Yuan is capable; she's just a freshman who takes the teachers' opinions too seriously. She subconsciously thinks this is still high school, where teachers are the absolute authority.'

'In reality, in university life, teachers only care about the results. Most of the time, their job is just to clean up the students' messes.'

'High school teachers might have a lot of responsibilities, but university professors are different. University students are adults. As long as the students are bouncing around campus in one piece, the professors have done their duty.'

'In my opinion, if Jiang Yuan is given enough time to grow, she'll become a competent leader. But right now, she's still too green.'

'Once I secure the class monitor position, I'll just dump all the work on her. Then I can have her cover for me when I skip class. That'll give her plenty of room to grow.'

Jiang Yuan's eyes widened. She leaned in close to Xue Rui and asked, "Huh? What do you mean?"

She stared at Xue Rui in astonishment. She had previously seen him as a strong rival and had tried to get him to drop out of the race, but he had refused.

But now that Xue Rui clearly had the upper hand, he was saying he'd give the position to her based on her performance?

'Is he just messing with me?'

Seeing Jiang Yuan leaning so close to Xue Rui they were almost touching, Lin Ruoxi suddenly felt a little unhappy. She squeezed in and fed Xue Rui a soup dumpling. "Rui, hurry up and eat."

With the dumpling in his mouth, Xue Rui extended his arm to the blood-drawing station's window.

The nurse had a strange expression. Everyone knew you were supposed to fast before a blood test. Who comes to get their blood drawn with food dangling from their mouth?

She asked instinctively, "You've been fasting, right? You haven't eaten breakfast?"

Chewing on the dumpling, Xue Rui said, "Not after I swallow this. So you'd better be quick, miss."

"Alright, alright. I've got a good feeling about my touch today," the nurse said with a smile.

When Xue Rui heard that, he was instantly filled with a bad feeling. 'What do you mean, you *have a feeling*?'

Sure enough, the next moment the needle entered his arm, but no blood flowed into the tube...

"HISS... you went right through the vein," Xue Rui said with a helpless look.

A torrent of curses flooded his mind. 'What the hell, are university students even considered human?'

'Why do they use students for all their experiments? This nurse is obviously an intern!'

'Right, university students don't complain. The perfect test subjects to practice on.'

"A female student was crying after they poked her earlier, and the nurse started crying too. This is the replacement," Jiang Yuan reminded him in a whisper.

The moment the needle went through Xue Rui's vein, the students behind him who had been craning their necks to watch hastily shuffled to the back of the line, afraid that if they were too slow, they'd be next...

Someone muttered, "How can you miss such a big vein?"

Xue Rui's face was a mask of utter despair. 'No wonder,' he thought. 'No wonder nobody complained when I cut in line. So none of you wanted to be the guinea pig, huh?'

Lin Ruoxi's heart ached watching this. Just as she was about to speak, Xue Rui stopped her with a look.

Xue Rui noticed the nurse in front of him was applying pressure to stop the bleeding with a panicked look on her face, her fingers trembling. 'She must be a new intern,' he thought. 'A mistake like this can shatter your confidence, and then things will only get worse…'
