Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 386 - 295: Deceiving Since Childhood?
Even an inaccurate hospital scale was more trustworthy than a girl’s word about her weight.
"Don’t look! Back up," a female student with a beet-red face muttered under her breath.
A group of young women glared, preventing the male students from getting any closer, which made the hospital nurses laugh.
After weighing herself, Lin Ruoxi ran back to report to Xue Rui, "Rui, I’m 116 pounds."
The young woman’s crisp voice echoed in the hall, causing many of the boys to turn and look.
"She’s... She’s way too honest."
"116 pounds? That’s not fat at all."
"See? If a girl’s weight isn’t in the triple digits, she’s either flat-chested or short..."
The students from the next class over discussed Lin Ruoxi in low voices.
The students of Software Engineering Class 141 also gained a new appreciation for Lin Ruoxi. Not only was she fiercely protective of her own, but she was also honest.
As they went through one test after another, many students were already clutching their stomachs and groaning.
But with the blood tests yet to be done, no one dared to eat anything.
One girl said nervously, "They’re about to draw our blood. I’m so scared."
"I’m so hungry."
"I was fine until you said that. Now I’m hungry too."
Most of them hadn’t expected a simple health check-up to leave them starving until nine in the morning.
What was even more despairing was that they couldn’t just leave after the check-up; they had to wait for the school’s organized transportation back...
In other words, by the time they got back to school to eat, who knew what time it would be.
This was how group health check-ups went. Some students with weaker constitutions were already so hungry their faces had turned pale, and they were hunched over.
"GROWL~" Lin Ruoxi’s face flushed. ’Why did my stomach have to growl?’
Xue Rui smiled. "Are you hungry?"
He had just taken a call. The owner of the breakfast shop said he’d arrived at the hospital.
The young woman glanced around furtively before secretly stuffing a chocolate pie into Xue Rui’s hand. "Rui, you... you can eat this secretly. It’ll be fine."
Lin Ruoxi figured it was almost her class’s turn for the blood draw, so letting Xue Rui eat something now wouldn’t affect his test results.
Xue Rui laughed. The young woman’s actions were just like an old granny from the village, secretly slipping a favorite child a tasty snack.
’But wasn’t it your stomach that was just growling?’
"Are you trying to pin this on me? Whose stomach was that growling just now?" Xue Rui asked, feigning annoyance.
"Mm, my stomach growled," Lin Ruoxi said meekly, lowering her head.
"Hungry, huh? Come with me to get some food." Xue Rui led Lin Ruoxi outside. He had spotted a man peering insistently through the window.
"Food? What food?" Cai Huazhou’s eyes were practically glowing green with hunger.
"Come on." Xue Rui beckoned to his roommates.
A minivan was parked in the hospital courtyard. In the back were several large insulated boxes filled with all sorts of pre-packaged breakfast items. It wasn’t the traditional northern breakfast typical of Chang’an, but more like southern-style dim sum. The sheer variety surprised even Xue Rui. ’I thought it would just be the usual fried dough sticks and tea eggs,’ he thought. ’Looks like the little minx didn’t skimp on this.’
"Mr. Xue, which girl in your class is surnamed Gu? She booked our whole shop in advance just to prepare this meal for your class. Are all university students this rich nowadays?" The owner’s mouth was stretched in a wide grin.
It was an easy, profitable job. Who wouldn’t be happy?
"Who in our class is surnamed Gu?" Zhao Chaojie fell into thought.
’I’m pretty sure I remember all the girls’ names, and there’s definitely no one with the surname Gu. But the owner didn’t get Xue Rui’s name wrong, so who sent this food?’
When Qian Huabiao heard "surnamed Gu," he almost choked.
’Who is surnamed Gu?’
’Who else would spend so much money to have food delivered?’
’Isn’t it that big spender who lent Xue Rui a hundred thousand yuan?’
’It’s Gu Muxue from Changjiang University!’
He desperately wanted to say it out loud, but he couldn’t!
This feeling of being the only one in the world who knew the secret, with no one to gossip with about it, was absolutely suffocating!
Everyone wore a different expression. Xue Rui hadn’t expected the owner to be so chatty. ’If I’d known, I wouldn’t have brought the little lass over.’
"Was this sent by Gu Muxue?" Lin Ruoxi asked, blinking her big, dewy eyes.
Qian Huabiao stiffly turned his neck, staring at Lin Ruoxi in disbelief. The three words "You know her?!" were practically written in his eyes.
’Is this something you can just say out loud?’
Qian Huabiao’s entire worldview was shattered once again.
Xue Rui nodded calmly. ’There’s no point in hiding it now.’
Besides, the little minx had told him to bring food for the little lass anyway. He simply admitted it, "She said you should eat well, too."
Just then, the breakfast shop owner, who was on speakerphone confirming the delivery with Gu Muxue, said, "Miss Gu, the breakfast has been delivered."
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, sir." Gu Muxue’s voice, tinged with a playful note, came from the phone. She sounded like she was in a great mood.
Xue Rui called out, "Muxue, I got it."
Hearing Xue Rui’s reply, the owner held the phone out toward him.
Lin Ruoxi had a dazed expression on her face. She spoke to the phone, "Classmate Gu Muxue, th-thank you for the food."
