Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 341 - 279: Lying Is a Child’s Nature (3)
"No interruptions. If you’re going far, you can just take a plane. That’s what I always do."
"Alright. Is the boss lady paying for it?"
"Hmph. In your dreams," Gu Muxue scoffed.
’Good thing Gu Qingshan doesn’t work for the railway,’ Xue Rui thought. ’When the order trickled down to the train attendant, they only had to confirm my presence and didn’t ask for any details. Otherwise, I would’ve been in real trouble.’
"Fine, whatever you say. I’ve already bought your ticket for when school starts," Xue Rui said with a smile.
’When Gu Muxue gets mad, she always starts giving orders. But Yaoyao, on the other hand, always asks, ’Is that okay?’’
’Being ordered around by this little missy feels pretty good,’ Xue Rui thought. ’And ordering my little sister around feels pretty good, too.’
"I’ve taken the high-speed train before, but I should still go discuss it with my mom. She was planning on taking me," Gu Muxue said, heading inside with the grapes.
’I’m already eighteen,’ she thought. ’By this age, Xue Rui was already traveling all over the country by himself. I can’t let my parents coddle me forever.’
"Why isn’t Lin Ruoxi coming with us?" Gu Muxue asked. She didn’t actually mind that Xue Rui was having a driver take Lin Ruoxi separately, since he was going with her to register at school.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that Xue Rui was, intentionally or not, keeping Lin Ruoxi away from her. But she had no proof. ’Maybe I’m just being too sensitive.’
Xue Rui said plainly, "She has a lot of work, and a lot of work materials to move."
"Alright." Gu Muxue sighed. When it came to work, she really had nothing to add.
The moment Gu Muxue stepped into the room, Xue Yao shot a nervous glance at the keyboard.
The first thing Gu Muxue’s eyes landed on was the mouse she had given Yaoyao. Then, next to it, she spotted a brand-new keyboard.
"Yaoyao, this keyboard is gorgeous. The color perfectly matches the mouse," Gu Muxue complimented.
’I’m so glad I didn’t get her a keyboard,’ she thought. ’Mine would have looked pathetic next to this one. This thing doesn’t even have a brand; it looks like it’s custom-made.’
Thinking back, she remembered Xue Rui had told her not to get one. ’Could he have known someone was going to give her this keyboard?’
Connecting this with the fact that Lin Ruoxi had just been here, Gu Muxue murmured, "Lin Ruoxi gave her this?"
Xue Yao’s eyes instantly went wide as saucers. While Gu Muxue wasn’t looking, she quickly shot Xue Rui an innocent expression, trying to distance herself from the situation.
Xue Rui sucked in a sharp breath. ’This girl’s intuition is way beyond what I expected. She spotted the keyboard and figured out where it came from within ten seconds of walking in.’
Gu Muxue reached out and pinched Xue Rui. "You knew about this ahead of time? And you had me pick out a pink mouse to match it?"
Faced with Gu Muxue’s threatening glare, Xue Rui had no choice but to admit it. "Yeah. Who knew she’d make something so fancy? It completely puts our gifts to shame."
"Since we can’t change it, we might as well lean into it and make Yaoyao happy. The headphones I bought are pink, too."
Gu Muxue was quite satisfied with this explanation. ’He just said "our" gifts, so he’s clearly on my side.’ She walked over to Xue Yao and looked at the keyboard with curiosity.
"Sister Muxue, look. Sister Ruoxi made this by hand," Xue Yao said, picking up the keyboard and placing it in Gu Muxue’s hands.
Xue Rui shot Xue Yao a glare and silently mouthed, "You talk too much."
Xue Yao stuck her tongue out at Xue Rui.
Scowling, Xue Rui walked to the computer, reached out, and opened the League of Legends rune page.
"Brother! Dearest brother!" Xue Yao immediately begged for mercy.
Xue Rui smiled, satisfied. "Gonna behave?"
"Yes," Xue Yao said, nodding repeatedly. She didn’t dare say anything to the contrary.
Gu Muxue stroked the keyboard. "She’s really skilled."
Xue Yao quickly chimed in, "Lin Ruoxi was a student in need that my brother used to sponsor. When I found out, I gave her some of my clothes on my own initiative, so she made this for my birthday."
Gu Muxue nodded with a gentle smile. ’That sounds just like the Lin Ruoxi I know—someone who always repays a kindness.’
She tested the weight of the heavy metal keyboard in her hands, feeling a wave of emotion.
’This gift of gratitude from Lin Ruoxi... it feels far too heavy.’
Xue Rui nodded in satisfaction. ’Looks like my threat worked. Yaoyao actually spoke up on her own.’
’Some things just sound different coming from him versus coming from Yaoyao.’
’But wait... she gave her the clothes "on her own initiative"?’
He clearly remembered that when he’d taken the clothes, Yaoyao had been screaming her head off, threatening to tattle to their mom. And now she was changing her tune to say she "gave them on her own initiative"?
’Lying really is second nature to kids.’
