Chapter 298 - 264: Lin Ruoxi’s Threat

Xue Rui put his arm around the young woman’s shoulder. He took the tickets and gave the train attendant a polite nod and a smile. "Thank you. Sorry for the trouble."

The aisle in the train car was very narrow. Two people couldn’t walk shoulder-to-shoulder, so they had to turn sideways. Xue Rui decided not to pretend anymore. There was nothing wrong with his foot, and he started walking normally.

When the train attendant saw Xue Rui walking like a normal person, their eyes nearly popped out of their head. ’What’s this kid playing at, pretending to be hurt when he’s fine?’ they thought.

However, Xue Rui had barely taken a few steps before Lin Ruoxi noticed. The girl’s eyes filled with concern, and a sudden wave of guilt washed over him...

He quickly went back to feigning a limp, leaning his weight on the girl’s shoulder.

The girl felt the weight of Xue Rui’s body and finally broke into a satisfied smile.

The train attendant clicked their tongue and shook their head repeatedly. ’This young man really doesn’t know how to take care of himself,’ they thought. ’Insisting on walking when he’s injured.’

Xue Rui was truly at a loss for words. The girl’s concern was a bit much.

Xue Rui followed the ticket information to find their seats and led the young woman inside.

He had been in a soft sleeper before. One compartment had four berths, and the door could be locked from the inside, making it a private, enclosed space.

He felt the girl hadn’t thought things through completely. If you couldn’t get a group of four together, it was actually better to take the communal hard sleeper bunks.

Even though they were much narrower compared to the soft sleepers, sharing an enclosed space with strangers in a soft sleeper was not a pleasant experience.

Still, the fact that Lin Ruoxi had managed to buy two lower berths showed she’d put a lot of thought into it. He couldn’t bring himself to say much; some things you only learn through experience.

But to his surprise, after the girl came in, she immediately locked the door from the inside, seemingly without a second thought about anyone else who might be coming in later.

He thought for a moment. Since they had been walking so slowly, they were among the last to board. The chances of anyone else coming were slim...

’But his girl is usually so gentle and meticulous,’ he thought. ’Why does she seem so bold and carefree today?’ She had locked the door almost without hesitation.

"Rui, wait a moment. I’ll make the bed first." Lin Ruoxi had Xue Rui wait obediently to one side.

Xue Rui shook his head. ’What’s there to make?’ he wondered. ’Didn’t the attendant already make it?’

Just as he was thinking this, he saw the girl pull a three-piece bedding set out of her bag—a bright red sheet, pillowcase, and duvet cover—and proceed to replace all the original bedding provided by the train...

’So that’s why her bag was bulging,’ he thought. ’It was stuffed with all this stuff?’

"The public ones aren’t clean," Lin Ruoxi said, her back still to Xue Rui. "I... I wanted you to use mine."

Xue Rui smiled and asked, "Do you like red this much?"

"Mm, I do," Lin Ruoxi replied, still busy with her task.

Xue Rui shook his head with a wry smile. He didn’t remember Lin Ruoxi owning a bright red bedsheet. The color was almost garishly vibrant.

With the compartment decorated like this by Lin Ruoxi, it looked like a honeymoon suite, and the red glow even cast a blush on the girl’s face.

Xue Rui, curious, rummaged through Lin Ruoxi’s bag, wanting to see what other strange things the girl had brought.

As a result, he spotted the corner of a pink train ticket in an inner pocket of the bag. He reached in to feel it and realized there were exactly two...

He remembered that he had been the one to put their two tickets away. How had they gotten into Lin Ruoxi’s bag?

Curious, Xue Rui pulled the two tickets out. The edges of the two tickets from Lin Ruoxi’s bag were perfectly intact, with no conductor’s punch mark.

He flipped them over to look at the front. These two tickets were for the upper berths in his and Lin Ruoxi’s compartment, also for a direct trip from Shencheng to Hedong.

He was now holding four train tickets!

Xue Rui sucked in a sharp breath and looked up at Lin Ruoxi, who was still smoothing the bedsheet.

He’d found the reason why the girl had so decisively locked the door—Lin Ruoxi had booked the entire compartment.

That was why Lin Ruoxi could be so certain that for the entire 33-hour journey from Shencheng to Hedong, absolutely no one else would come in...

’Locking the door right after coming in... Is she planning on locking me in here with her for 33 hours?’

’This girl had been hiding this from me the whole time. What on earth was she planning?’

Suddenly, Lin Ruoxi’s phone, which she had set aside, buzzed. Xue Rui reached over and picked it up, only to see a text message from Yu Minlan. The content was very concise:

[Go for it, Sister Ruoxi!]
