’I’m so pathetic. I can’t even hold back my tears.’

She smiled at her reflection in the balcony mirror. Though she wasn’t as cheerful and lively as Gu Muxue, all that mattered was that Xue Rui liked seeing her.

In the bathroom.

Xue Rui hummed a little tune while brushing his teeth. His girl had already squeezed the toothpaste onto his brush for him, ready for him to use the moment he woke up.

Suddenly, his humming stopped. ’Lost in her gentle embrace, I actually forgot something important!’

’What about last night? Gu Muxue wanted to add Lin Ruoxi on WeChat!’

’He had no idea how Lin Ruoxi had handled it! He’d been too busy enjoying her lap!’

But he only dwelled on it for a second before a grin spread across his foam-covered mouth. His girl was even happier this morning than usual, which meant he was still in the clear.

Gu Muxue hadn’t contacted Lin Ruoxi, and Lin Ruoxi still didn’t know he was two-timing. The boat hadn’t capsized, so he could still ride the waves a bit longer.

After brushing his teeth and washing his face, he found his girl waiting for him at the dining table as always. She had set out his bowl and chopsticks, and she wouldn’t start eating until he took the first bite.

Xue Rui had recently reverted to his internet-era habits; being without his phone felt like missing a limb. The first thing he did after coming out was look for his phone on the sofa.

However, he found his phone placed neatly on the dining table. Lin Ruoxi must have brought it over for him.

"It’s getting cold. Can you look at your phone later?" Lin Ruoxi said softly.

When she unplugged the charger, the screen had lit up automatically. She hadn’t wanted to look, but she just couldn’t help herself...

Gu Muxue had sent Xue Rui a ton of messages and even called him several times.

She hadn’t read the actual messages, but she figured Gu Muxue must have been worried about him.

Xue Rui had slept in until ten-thirty this morning. If she couldn’t get in touch with him, she would be worried sick, too...

Lin Ruoxi’s lips turned down slightly. ’Gu Muxue cares a lot about him, too...’

"No worries. Do you know why we use chopsticks in our country?" Xue Rui asked, holding his up.

Lin Ruoxi tilted her head. "Why?"

"Because thousands of years ago, our ancestors foresaw that people in the future would have one hand occupied by a phone, so they invented a tool for one-handed eating," Xue Rui said, picking up a steamed bun with his chopsticks.

Lin Ruoxi’s beautiful eyes widened slightly, then curved into crescents as she looked at him. ’Xue Rui still loves to joke around. How could anyone have predicted the invention of smartphones thousands of years ago?’

While Xue Rui was holding the bun with his chopsticks, Lin Ruoxi picked up some side dishes for him and brought them to his lips.

"Mm, you need to eat your vegetables, too. Let me get them for you."

Feeling a pang of guilt, Xue Rui glanced at his chat screen. He was currently texting Gu Muxue. The girl was angry that he hadn’t replied to her messages or answered her calls...

And yet, here he was, enjoying the food his girl was feeding him.

’Riding the waves is great,’ Xue Rui said to himself.

’The guilt mixed with a thrill... it’s a pretty strange feeling.’

He noticed that Qiu Mengze had also sent him a message. It was a screenshot of a friend request from Gu Muxue, with a verification message below it:

"[Hello, Qiu Mengze. This is Gu Muxue.]"

Qiu Mengze: Muxue added me. Did you give her my number?

Xue Rui: You already accepted. Why don’t you ask her yourself?

Qiu Mengze replied almost instantly: What am I supposed to talk to your girlfriend about? You think I have nothing better to do?

Qiu Mengze felt it was unethical. Xue Rui had instantly deleted Qin Tong’s QQ right in front of him, so how could he possibly chat with Gu Muxue for no reason?

Of course... he knew Gu Muxue was completely out of his league.

Even so, he believed there were lines you just couldn’t cross. You had to have a clear sense of boundaries.

Xue Rui couldn’t help but smile. His childhood friend actually had some principles.

A long while later, Qiu Mengze sent a long-winded text: So, does that mean I can’t talk to Lin Ruoxi either? You bastard, you’re really living the life, huh? Yesterday, Qin Tong and I...

Xue Rui silently closed the chat. He didn’t want to read a single word that came after "Qin Tong."

But this also reassured him. Gu Muxue always included the person’s name when adding them as a friend, which gave her a polite and well-mannered air.

This meant Gu Muxue wasn’t bothered by the Lin Ruoxi situation...

As for Lin Ruoxi, she was a quiet type to begin with. She barely said much to him, let alone to other people.

Still, out of curiosity, he reached for Lin Ruoxi’s phone.

Lin Ruoxi’s eyes faltered for a moment before she obediently handed her phone to Xue Rui.

Xue Rui glanced at Lin Ruoxi’s phone wallpaper. It was a photo of him and his girl together.

’Right,’ he thought. ’She made her feelings clear a long time ago. I was the one who never said anything.’ It was only yesterday that they had officially confirmed their relationship.

He typed in his birthday, but his finger slipped on one of the numbers, so he had to delete it and start over.

"Rui, you should add your fingerprint. My phone has a fingerprint sensor," Lin Ruoxi said.

A sudden wave of guilt washed over Xue Rui. He had actually wanted to secretly check her messages, yet not only did his girl not mind him looking at her phone, she even wanted to add his fingerprint.

While Xue Rui was still hesitating, the girl had already opened the settings menu, placed his finger on the sensor, and was guiding his hand, pressing and releasing it.

With each slight vibration of the phone, the fingerprint icon on the screen gradually filled in.

When the system finally prompted that the fingerprint had been successfully added, Lin Ruoxi couldn’t help but smile, as if Xue Rui had just left his mark on her. She tilted her head up and gave him a gentle peck on the cheek.
