"Want to go see a movie?" Xue Rui asked. It was a simple date idea, but it would be a new experience for the girl.

Lin Ruoxi said softly, "If Xiaorui wants to go, I’ll go."

Xue Rui felt a bit helpless. "I’m asking you."

The girl buried her head against his leg, her fingers drawing little circles in the sand. "I... don’t want to go. I want to watch a movie at home with Xiaorui, just like we used to during our evening self-study sessions."

Xue Rui chuckled and ruffled the girl’s hair. "Then we’ll watch one at home."

The girl didn’t like crowded places. Even now, with the beach full of people, she either kept to herself or sat right beside him.

"Xiaorui, let’s go back and watch." The girl giggled, hugging Xue Rui’s arm, her voice soft.

Every time Xue Rui heard Lin Ruoxi call him by his nickname, he felt a strange fondness, almost as if she were doting on a son. It made his ears tingle.

"Maybe... you shouldn’t call me Xiaorui anymore," Xue Rui said hesitantly.

The girl’s eyes suddenly dimmed. Xue Rui’s family all called him that, and even Gu Muxue did...

’Am I not worthy enough?’

"Xixi, it’s not what you think. It just sounds a little strange to me," Xue Rui said, telling her the truth. He made sure to use her nickname in return.

Xue Rui smiled and held out an arm, waiting for the girl to pull him up.

"We can just eat out for Qixi, and we can walk around a bit too." After getting up, Xue Rui draped an arm over the girl’s shoulders, and they walked off into the distance, chatting idly.

Lin Ruoxi shook her head. "Food from restaurants isn’t clean. What do you want to eat tonight?"

"I can eat the leftovers. I want you to eat something freshly made..."

"Give them to Yu Minlan; she won’t mind. Or we can feed them to Da Huang later. You have no idea how picky Da Huang has gotten since you started spoiling him..." Xue Rui said.

He didn’t actually mind leftovers, but the girl was stubborn about certain things, and nothing he said could change her mind.

Yu Minlan gritted her teeth. She didn’t mind at all; in fact, she was craving Lin Ruoxi’s delicious cooking.

But Xue Rui made it sound like he was talking about feeding a dog! ’Are single people this despised?’

Watching the sun slowly set in the distance, she couldn’t help but shout at the ocean, "Heavens, when will you let me meet a partner like Ruoxi!"

Lin Ruoxi said crisply, "Sister Yu, you should see a psychiatrist."
