Chapter 334: Chapter 332: Terminal Lucidity?

After finally digging the jar out from under a huge pile of various supplements gifted by others, Mu Zhe twisted open the lid. When he smelled the incredibly fresh and pleasant aroma wafting from the ointment, he felt as if he had found a priceless treasure. But then, a cold sweat trickled down his back. ’If Wei Qiang hadn’t been worried and called just in time, Father would have probably passed away, and our family would have never even known what we’d missed.’

He now completely believed what Zhang Wei Qiang had told him: ’This ointment’s recipe is a secret formula our ancestors stumbled upon. Not only are the herbs used very precious, but the production process is also incredibly difficult. The slightest mistake leads to failure. That’s why even our own family has very little in stock. If it weren’t for our solid friendship, my family wouldn’t have been willing to part with it.’ At the same time, he felt incredibly fortunate.

Carefully carrying the jar of ointment as if it were a priceless treasure, along with a glass of water prepared with the ointment as Zhang Wei Qiang had instructed, Mu Zhe quickly returned to Old Master Mu’s room. He excitedly brought the jar and glass to the bedside. "Dad, drink this first. It was made by dissolving the ’Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment.’ Wei Qiang said it has a special effect on your illness. When his father gave it to us, he was a bit conservative in his description, so Wei Qiang was afraid we wouldn’t take it seriously. That’s why he made a point to call and explain again today."

"Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment? I’ve heard that name. Wasn’t that what Zhang Wei Qiang’s father took out at the hospital the other day?" Old Master Mu paused to think. His memory was excellent, and the details came back to him almost immediately.

"That’s the one," Mu Zhe nodded, placing the glass in Old Master Mu’s hands. "Drink the water first," he urged. "They say it will relieve your symptoms, keep you comfortable for a full day, and even let you eat normally."

"That’s impossible, isn’t it? How could something so miraculous exist?" Mu Guoliang said from the side, staring skeptically at the glass of water in his father’s hands.

"Don’t drink it! Don’t drink it, put it down."

Seeing the large glass of water and the ointment jar in her younger son’s hands, Tong Qingye was furious. Her face darkened as she shouted to stop Old Master Mu, then lunged to snatch the glass from his hand. Mu Zhe quickly blocked her. "Mom, what are you doing?"

"What do you mean, what am I doing? I should be asking you what you’re doing!" Tong Qingye scolded him, incensed. "Mu Zhe, you’re a grown man, how can you still be so thoughtless? How could you just give your father something from an unlabeled jar to ingest? What if something bad happens? Besides, your father can’t drink too much at once right now; he has to take small, frequent sips. How could he possibly drink such a large glass?"

She berated Mu Zhe harshly, "Didn’t I already tell Xiao Lin to throw this out? Why is she disobeying me now?"

"Good thing she didn’t throw it out, or I would have missed something special." Old Master Mu had already brought the glass to his lips. An intense craving welled up inside him as he smelled the water’s aroma. His eyes lit up with the first sip, and then he downed the entire glass in one go. He sat up by himself, and seeing a few drops remaining at the bottom of the glass, he tipped his head back to get every last bit. Only when it was completely empty did he reluctantly lick the moisture from his lips, let out a long sigh, and rub his stomach.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve felt so full of energy. Hey, I’m actually a little hungry. You all, stop arguing and hurry up. Someone get me something to eat; I’m feeling hungry."

’A final burst of energy?’

This was the first thought that struck Tong Qingye and Mu Guoliang. They both stared blankly at Old Master Mu with wide eyes, as if they’d seen a ghost. Then, Tong Qingye clapped a hand over her mouth as tears streamed down her face. After a few sobs, she began to pound on Mu Zhe’s chest. "This is all your fault! You gave your father some random thing to ingest—you’re trying to kill him!"

"Mom, stop. Little Brother was just clutching at straws. He meant well; it wasn’t intentional."

While pulling Tong Qingye back, Mu Guoliang couldn’t help but shoot a reproachful look at Mu Zhe. He then turned to Old Master Mu, his eyes filled with immense sorrow. "Dad, do... do you have any final wishes...?" He couldn’t finish his sentence as tears began to stream down his face.

"What’s with this reaction? I’m just hungry and want something to eat. Do you all have to be so dramatic?" Old Master Mu was baffled at first, but then he realized what they were thinking and became utterly exasperated. "This isn’t some final burst of energy! You’re letting your imaginations run wild."

"Mom, Big Brother. This is just the Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment taking effect. Zhang Wei Qiang already told me this would happen. I didn’t quite believe him at first, but now... I can’t believe it’s this effective! He’s fine! If he just keeps taking it and finishes this whole jar, Dad will probably be mostly recovered." Mu Zhe clutched the jar like a precious treasure, his gaze on it as tender as if he were looking at a lover.

He chuckled foolishly. "Dad, don’t worry, just wait a minute. I’ve already told Xiao Lin, and she’ll be bringing some food up shortly. Doctor Liu is also on his way to take another look at you."

In stark contrast to Mu Guoliang and Tong Qingye, Mu Zhe couldn’t help but beam with joy seeing his father like this.

"Huh?!"

Tong Qingye and Mu Guoliang stared at each other in utter disbelief. How could such a miraculous medicine possibly exist in this world?

Just then, a knock came from the door. Mu Zhe quickly opened it to find Xiao Lin accompanied by the family’s doctor, Liu Kai Ming. Although Doctor Liu was trained in Western medicine, he had dabbled in traditional Chinese medicine. He was astonished to see Old Master Mu looking so full of life. He took his pulse, performed a brief examination, and then observed him further as he finished a bowl of noodle soup. After asking a few detailed questions, he took the jar of Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment from Mu Zhe, opened it, and placed a tiny amount in his mouth to taste. His expression changed dramatically. Staring at the jar, his eyes lit up. "Something like this actually exists in the world? Where did it come from? What’s it called?"

"Is this Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment harmful to my father?" Mu Guoliang asked nervously.

"Harmful? How could it possibly be?"

Doctor Liu exclaimed, then, realizing his loss of composure, he cleared his throat. "AHEM." Shaking his head, he said with a serious expression, "So it’s called Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment. I’ve never heard that name before. It shouldn’t be detrimental to Mr. Mu’s condition at all; in fact, it should be highly beneficial. However, to determine the exact benefits, it would be best if you’d let me take a small sample for analysis," Doctor Liu said, holding the jar with extreme care.
