Rebirth of the Fierce, Pampered Wife
Chapter 319 - 317: Poison?
Chapter 319: Chapter 317: Poison?
’He’s injured?’
Gu Nuan Nuan’s brow furrowed slightly.
Luo Xiaohu’s face scrunched up as he miserably corrected himself. "My big bro... he just didn’t want you to worry about him during the New Year." He hesitated for a long moment before finally mustering the courage to look at Gu Nuan Nuan with pleading eyes. "Ms. Nuannuan, please go see him. His injuries are really serious. He was admitted on the Little New Year. He was trying to save someone and got badly hurt himself. He almost didn’t make it..."
Gu Nuan Nuan stared at Luo Xiaohu for a few long seconds before turning away, tossing a cold remark over her shoulder. "...If he went to save someone, it means he was confident he could do it."
’I know that man too well. He doesn’t do things he’s not sure about. He’s especially careful with his life. It wasn’t easy for him to get a second chance; why would he possibly sacrifice himself for someone else?’
"Ms. Nuannuan, I’m serious! My brother is in really bad shape this time. He’s still stuck in bed, he can’t even get up on his own. I’m not lying to you, it’s true!" Seeing Gu Nuan Nuan walk away, Luo Xiaohu refused to give up and quickly chased after her, chattering on.
’It’s true we were supposed to keep it a secret, but since Gu Nuan Nuan already found out, how could I not at least try to get her to go over, even just to let my boss get a glimpse of her?’
’Uh, no, that’s not right. After he started college, my boss told me I should call him ’Big Bro’ from now on. He said ’boss’ sounded too much like a gangster.’
"I don’t have time to waste on irrelevant people." Gu Nuan Nuan didn’t stop, continuing straight ahead. But Luo Xiaohu was just as stubborn. Since she wouldn’t stop, he kept following her, forcing a smile while rambling on and on. Finally, Gu Nuan Nuan couldn’t stand the grating sound of his voice any longer. She tossed him a small jade bottle, the size of her thumb, and said irritably, "Stop following me." She paused. "One pill at a time."
"What’s this?" Luo Xiaohu asked curiously, catching the Jade Bottle.
"Poison," Gu Nuan Nuan said coldly. "It’s to put him out of his misery. If you’re scared, don’t use it."
After speaking, she suddenly picked up her pace and was far away in an instant. In another blur, even with Luo Xiaohu’s considerable speed, he couldn’t see how she vanished and completely lost track of her.
Clutching the small jade bottle, Luo Xiaohu stared in the direction Gu Nuan Nuan had disappeared, completely dumbfounded. Unwilling to give up, he rubbed his eyes several times and stared for a long while before reluctantly leaving when he was sure she was gone.
As she walked away, Gu Nuan Nuan was furious with herself. ’How could I have been so foolish? Why did I just give away that bottle of "elixirs" I spent so long experimenting on before finally succeeding in making? They can help an ordinary person recover quickly from even the most severe injuries! And I gave him six of them...’
Meanwhile, Luo Xiaohu didn’t go straight back to Luo Hongyi’s private room. He first wandered around the area where he had run into Gu Nuan Nuan a couple of times. Then, he casually struck up a conversation with the on-duty nurse at the nearest station, joking around with her as usual before finally leaving.
In the nurses’ eyes, his actions were completely normal.
Nearly every nurse on this floor knew Luo Xiaohu. He had been hanging around the hospital recently to take care of Luo Hongyi. Although the nurses didn’t know his exact identity, they knew that a patient who could get a VIP room at Beijing First Hospital couldn’t be from a simple background.
Luo Xiaohu was the patient’s younger brother. Although no one knew why no other family members had shown up for the two of them, just by looking at their young ages, the fact that the older brother was already in a high position, and the extraordinary bearing of them both, it was obvious they weren’t raised in an ordinary family...
When someone like that was willing to condescend and joke with them, naturally, no one would be foolish enough to refuse or give him the cold shoulder.
"What took you so long?"
Luo Hongyi was propped up against the bed, flipping through a business magazine. Hearing the noise, he looked up and saw Luo Xiaohu walk in with a vexed expression, causing him to raise an eyebrow. "What happened? What’s with that look?"
"I saw my little sister-in-law." Luo Xiaohu was still clutching the small jade bottle tightly. He held it out in front of Luo Hongyi, a strange look on his face. "She gave me this. Said it’s poison and that you should take one to die and get it over with."
The moment Luo Hongyi heard the three words "little sister-in-law," the business magazine fell from his hand without him even noticing. He stared at the small jade bottle Luo Xiaohu held out, his Adam’s apple bobbing. Without a hint of hesitation, he took it, uncorked it, and carefully tipped one pill onto his palm. He glanced at the small, soybean-sized pellet—it was a glossy, jade green, and gave off a faint fragrance. He immediately tossed it into his mouth and swallowed, so quickly that Luo Xiaohu didn’t even have time to stop him.
"Big Bro, how could you just eat it like that?" Luo Xiaohu said anxiously.
"It’s fine." Luo Hongyi felt a wave of heat building in his lower abdomen. He quickly capped the Jade Bottle, secured it close to his body, and sat down cross-legged. He only had time to give one instruction—"Don’t let anyone in"—before he began to circulate his Inner Strength, using the wave of heat.
Seeing Luo Hongyi’s posture, Luo Xiaohu panicked for a moment. He knew he couldn’t disturb his brother right now, so he suppressed his anxiety and quietly slipped out of the room to stand guard at the door.
He stood watch for the entire afternoon. By eight or nine in the evening, there was still no sound from Luo Hongyi. Luo Xiaohu had to make up various excuses to turn away the doctors and nurses who came by for their routine checks. During this time, he was so afraid someone might slip in and disturb Luo Hongyi if he stepped away that he didn’t dare to leave for even a moment, forgoing all food and drink.
It wasn’t until around two in the morning that he finally heard a sound from inside the room. Luo Xiaohu peeked in and was startled to see Luo Hongyi already standing by the bed, stretching his arms and legs. He slipped quietly into the room. "Big Bro?"
"The medicine your little sister-in-law gave me worked exceptionally well on my injuries. Combined with our Cultivation’s Internal Cultivation Methods, not only have I recovered, but it’s been a blessing in disguise. My Inner Strength has improved significantly as well."
"But little sister-in-law never even asked where you were hurt. How could the medicine be so effective?" Luo Xiaohu asked, puzzled.
"Perhaps it works on all types of injuries." Luo Hongyi took out the small jade bottle again and carefully poured all the medicine pills onto his palm. A wave of warmth spread from the bottom of his heart as he watched the five small pills roll around in his palm. ’No matter what Nuannuan says, she still has me in her heart after all. Otherwise, how could she have given me something so precious so easily? She must still be worried about me deep down, right?’
"It smells so good!" Luo Xiaohu’s mouth hung open as he closed his eyes and took a deep, intoxicated breath. Just smelling the fragrance of the medicine pills made him feel refreshed from head to toe.
Luo Hongyi watched him with an amused shake of his head. With a flick of his hand, he sent one of the medicine pills flying into his brother’s mouth.
