Chapter 611: Chapter Six Hundred and Seventeen
Although Su Wenyue felt a bit tired, the concerns in her heart kept her from feeling sleepy, so she noticed Han Yu’s return as soon as he arrived. By the time she got up, Han Yu had already come in from outside.
“Husband, you’re back.” Su Wenyue went to take the coat that Han Yu had taken off, which was damp and cold from the dew and chill outside.
Han Yu looked at Su Wenyue with surprise, his brows slightly furrowed, “Why haven’t you slept yet? It’s almost midnight. Didn’t I tell you to sleep early and not wait up for me? Is there something on your mind?”
Han Yu was very satisfied and comforted by his daughter-in-law’s behavior these past days, and he felt even more guilty and distressed. He knew he had neglected his home too much recently. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to find some time to accompany his wife and child, but the situation was tense, affairs outside were becoming busier, and he simply couldn’t find the time. The responsibilities on his shoulders were too heavy, and only by completely resolving the hidden dangers could he truly ensure the safety of his wife and children.
Living on edge every day, when he came home, he could finally relax and not hide his exhaustion in front of his daughter-in-law. Han Yu rubbed his forehead with his hand, waiting for his wife’s answer.
Su Wenyue had only wanted to seek an answer and explanation from Han Yu about the marks on his clothing, but seeing her husband so tired, all that remained in her heart was sympathy and understanding. She just wanted to serve Han Yu and get him to rest sooner, without the heart to delve into those trivial matters. Besides, with Han Yu so worn out, how could he have the energy to be involved with another woman? It seemed she had overthought things.
“It’s nothing. I was tired during the day and took a nap, which turned out to be longer than expected, so I couldn’t fall asleep tonight. Don’t worry, everything at home is fine; you don’t need to be concerned.”
Han Yu looked up at his wife. When he entered, he clearly saw that she had something to say, “Really? If there’s anything, you must tell me. These days have been so busy, busy with arranging various affairs and secretly contending with Liu Xuan, that I’ve indeed neglected you and the child and haven’t taken care of many things at home.”
As he spoke, Han Yu took Su Wenyue into his arms, and smelling the fragrance of her body, he suddenly felt much more relaxed, as if the bothersome matters outside had been forgotten and left behind.
“It’s really nothing. I just wanted to wait for your return to see you. Although you have come home these past few days, you’ve been leaving early and returning late. When you come back, I’ve already fallen asleep, and by the time I wake up, you’ve already left. I never have the chance to see you, and I miss you,” Su Wenyue responded, hugging Han Yu and resting on him, feeling at peace. No matter how chaotic it was outside, as long as Han Yu was there, she could calmly manage the inner house. Han Yu would always arrange everything for her, and furthermore, she genuinely missed him.
Seeing his daughter-in-law express her feelings so directly for a rare occasion, Han Yu grinned, the usually stern and wise general smiling a bit foolishly.
“Daughter-in-law, just stay at home and take care of the children. Once I get through this busy period and settle the affairs, I will definitely spend some quality time with you.”
Su Wenyue knew that what Han Yu referred to as ‘this period’ would probably be at least a year or more. Even once this situation was resolved, there would always be other matters to attend to. That’s the nature of her capable husband.
While thinking this, Su Wenyue naturally wouldn’t say such disheartening words out loud. She poked Han Yu’s chest with her finger, “You’ve said it yourself. Once you’re done with your busyness, you have to spend quality time with me and the children, take us out to play, and you can’t back out. Otherwise, I won’t let it go!”
“When Han Yu gives his word, it is as good as gold. I will never go back on it.”
“Then it’s settled. It’s late, you should wash up and rest. You have to wake up early tomorrow. With such a hectic schedule, you need to take care of your health,” Su Wenyue said, though she wished Han Yu could stay and talk with her longer. Seeing how tired he was, she wouldn’t push it.
Han Yu was indeed both sleepy and tired. Seeing his wife so understanding, he nodded, casually washed up, then lay down on the bed and fell asleep immediately, which showed how exhausted he was.
As Su Wenyue watched the man beside her who had already fallen sleeping, she sighed softly, staring at Han Yu for a while until she too drifted off to sleep.
With the passing of the night, the matter was dropped and never mentioned again.
Aunt Li and Shu Xiang were initially concerned that Madam had kept her worries to herself. They were worried she might act out, or if she didn’t, they feared the pent-up frustrations might harm her health. After observing for several days and seeing that Su Wenyue had indeed let go of the matter without overthinking or showing any signs of unhappiness—instead spending her days happily with the children—they finally relaxed.
It seemed the old saying was right: a woman changes once she has children. Gradually, her temperament becomes more placid, she learns to compromise and to let go. This was good; otherwise, with the General’s rising status and power, if the Madam continued to indulge in her little tempers as before, it would only be detrimental to herself. Aunt Li felt very reassured about this.
Su Wenyue could tell that Aunt Li and Shu Xiang were worried, so she pointedly said a few things to them and made some clear gestures to reassure them. Aunt Li and Shu Xiang were concerned about her, and it was good to put their minds at ease.
At this point, Su Wenyue started to miss Xiao Xi. If Xiao Xi were here, she would straightforwardly ask whatever was on her mind, without the need for Su Wenyue to be so roundabout. It was just unfortunate that she had sent the servant girl away on errands, and she wasn’t around for the time being.

“Madam, Miss Chen requests an audience.”
That day, as Su Wenyue was about to visit the children, a servant girl came to report, and Su Wenyue asked for Chen Li to be brought in.
“What a rare visitor. How does Miss Chen find the time to visit me at this hour?” Su Wenyue said with a smile, without any underlying meanings—just the literal sense of her words. Chen Li’s arrival was quite unexpected. Everyone was busy at this time, not just Han Yu. As an important subordinate under Liu Xiu, Chen Li undoubtedly had plenty of matters at hand, yet here she was visiting Su Wenyue, which was certainly curious.
“I’ve been swamped lately, but today, I finally managed to free up a bit of time. So here I am to see an old friend. Madam Han wouldn’t be unwelcoming, would she?” Chen Li said with a smile. Nowadays, her status under Liu Xiu had risen significantly, and while her position towards Su Wenyue remained the same as before, in part due to Han Yu’s status, she also felt a bit of fondness and gratitude towards Su Wenyue.
“Of course, you’re welcome. With your current importance, Miss Chen, many people would like to invite you but can’t. Why wouldn’t I welcome you?” Su Wenyue said, smiling and knowing that Chen Li’s visit was certainly purposeful, but she wasn’t in a hurry. Chen Li would speak up when it was time.
Although Chen Li knew there were no compliments intended in Su Wenyue’s words, her heart still felt satisfied, and her smile became even more genuine.
