Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 320 - 313: Thank God! Oh, No! Thank the Boss
A budget hotel somewhere in Modu.
In the lobby, Wei Wu sat on a sofa, waiting for his teammates to arrive.
The receptionist, while checking in a tourist, kept stealing glances at the burly man sitting in the lounge area.
DING-DONG~
The sound of an elevator arriving on the first floor chimed. The doors then slid open, and two foreign men, both around 1.9 meters tall, squeezed out, drawing the attention of everyone in the lobby.
It wasn’t until the two behemoths had walked several meters, dragging their suitcases, that people noticed two other strong, slightly shorter foreign men behind them.
Judging by the four foreigners’ physiques and gait, it was obvious they had a military background.
The young woman at the front desk stared at the four foreigners in astonishment. She had just started her shift this morning, so she didn’t know that four extraordinary-looking foreigners had checked into the hotel.
Under the curious gazes of the onlookers, the burly man who had been waiting on the sofa got up with a smile and met the four foreigners, giving each of them a bear hug.
Just as Wei Wu was hugging the last of the 1.9-meter-tall men, something unexpected happened. The man suddenly tightened his grip, locking Wei Wu in a hold, and tried to lift him for a takedown slam.
Amid the gasps of the onlookers, Wei Wu lowered his center of gravity and hooked a foot around the man’s calf. No matter how hard the big man strained, he couldn’t lift Wei Wu off the ground.
The moment the man’s strength wavered, Wei Wu seized the opportunity. He broke free from the embrace with a sudden burst of force, kept his leg hooked around the man’s, wrapped his hands around his waist, and shoved forward.
THUD! The large man was thrown to the ground. As he fell, he instinctively reached for his waist.
"Hahahaha~" To the astonishment of the onlookers, the other three foreigners showed no intention of breaking up the fight. Instead, they burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! Da Xiong, you’ve been owned so many times, but you never learn!" one of the shorter foreigners said in English, with a slight accent.
Wei Wu got off Da Xiong and pulled him to his feet. "Da Xiong! Your strength has improved!" he said in English. "But that’s not how you use it!"
As he got up from the floor, Da Xiong grumbled, "Who’d compare their fighting skills with a freak like you! Sigh, I can’t believe my sneak attack failed and I got owned instead."
Hearing Da Xiong’s complaint, Wei Wu laughed. "Even if you had the same tonnage as the boss, I bet you still couldn’t beat him!"
When Wei Wu said this, not only did Da Xiong look unconvinced, but the other three were also skeptical.
However, out of respect for Wei Wu’s skills, they didn’t voice any objections for the time being.
"Alright! Go check out! We’re attracting too much attention here!" Wei Wu said, clapping Da Xiong on the shoulder and gesturing towards the tourists and hotel staff who were staring at them from the front desk.
Da Xiong and Hawkeye immediately pulled their key cards from their pockets and walked toward the front desk.
Because of his recent aggressive display, combined with the scar running from the corner of his mouth to his ear, Da Xiong looked exceptionally fierce—definitely not like a good guy.
Seeing the frightened expressions on the faces of the receptionist and the tourists, Hawkeye stepped forward with a smile and said in awkward Huaxia language, "Miss! Hello! We... want to check out room!"
The receptionist snapped out of her daze and quickly took the two key cards Hawkeye handed her.
Seeing Hawkeye and the other man still waiting, the receptionist forced a smile and said, "Sirs, you can go now!"
Because she spoke rather quickly, Hawkeye looked confused and asked, "What?"
The receptionist repeated herself. Through a combination of guessing and inference, Hawkeye understood her meaning. He then grabbed Da Xiong, who was busy making faces at a baby, and led him back to the group.
Only after all five of them had left the lobby did most of the people there finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"Who were those guys? They looked so strong!" someone exclaimed.
"What’s the use of being big? Didn’t you see that big idiot get taken down easily by one of us Huaxia People?" a tall, skinny man said with disdain.
His words immediately found agreement from a person next to him. "Right, right! Besides, no matter how good your kung fu is, you’ll still go down with one shot."
...
SLAM! The trunk of the commercial van was stuffed to the brim.
Da Xiong opened the passenger door and squeezed in. After wiggling his body a few times, he sighed, "Military SUVs are so much more spacious. I wonder what kind of cars the boss will get for us."
From the back seat, Caviar said dreamily, "If you ask me, a Hummer would be great!"
At Caviar’s words, Hawkeye, sitting beside him, immediately voiced his approval. "Definitely! Back when I was in the service, I always rode in Hummers. As long as your luck isn’t particularly bad, they’re very safe."
From the last row, Poison Thorn, who had been silent until now, chimed in, "If you ask me, our German cars are better!"
"Ours from the United States are better!"
"Russia’s aren’t bad either!"
In an instant, the entire van erupted into a debate over cars.
A slight smile appeared on Wei Wu’s face. "Military SUVs are too conspicuous in Huaxia. After the boss heard you were coming, he had his secretary order six brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLE 400s from this year’s lineup. It cost him 6.3 million Huaxia Coin!"
Da Xiong asked, "How much is over 6.3 million Huaxia Coin in US Dollars?"
Hawkeye immediately took out his phone to calculate it. Since he was coming to work in Huaxia, he had already looked up the exchange rate.
"FUCK, US$900,000! Just to buy us bodyguards some daily drivers! The boss is seriously loaded!"
"Why buy so many!? Do we each get one?" Da Xiong asked, practically drooling.
Wei Wu glanced at the road ahead before smacking Da Xiong on the back of the head. "You’re dreaming! It’s two for each of the three cities! Although, given the boss’s net worth, one for each of us wouldn’t be out of the question."
Poison Thorn asked curiously, "Cao Cao! Can you tell us what the boss’s current net worth is?"
Poison Thorn’s question made all his teammates in the van perk up their ears.
Cao Cao, which was Wei Wu, recalled as he drove, "In early December, some busybody estimated the boss’s financial situation. At the time, it was supposedly 8.4 billion Huaxia Coin, which is 1.2 billion US Dollars! But now, I think it’s even more than that!"
"What? 1.2 billion US Dollars! And you said before that the boss is only 19 this year?" Hawkeye exclaimed in surprise. No wonder he’s willing to spend a fortune to build a bodyguard team.
After all, in the United States, many people worth less than Wu Yun had even larger security details than their current team.
"Cao Cao, what did the boss say our monthly salary was again?" Caviar asked, licking his lips.
Speaking of salary, a smile appeared on Wei Wu’s face. With the team’s expansion, he had gotten a raise to 40,000 a month after tax.
From now on, he would be responsible to Wu Yun as the captain of the bodyguard team.
"Your salary is 35,000 Huaxia Coin a month after tax! That’s US$ 5,000 a month, and that includes Huaxia’s Five Insurances and One Fund."
"I like this boss! US$ 5,000 a month, after tax! I’m in!" Hawkeye shouted excitedly.
You have to understand, back home, they worked their asses off, and even with bonuses, it only added up to around 4,000 US Dollars a month, and even that wasn’t always guaranteed.
The pay for employees at major overseas private military contractors was only between US$ 3,000 and US$ 3,500, though mission bonuses were calculated separately, of course.
"Oh! Right, I forgot to tell you. The boss said if you do a good job, there’s a year-end bonus!"
"Oh! Thank God! Oh, no! Thank the boss!"
