Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack
Chapter 1947 - 1927:
Chapter 1947: Chapter 1927:
"Achoo—" Qhianqhian suddenly sneezed on the road, rubbed her nose suspiciously, "Am I coming down with a cold? Or is someone bad-mouthing me? I’m obviously this cute, who would be so heartless as to talk trash about me..."
"Probably someone’s thinking about you." He Wenyu said lazily, "My guess is, Godmother is secretly talking about you."
"Mom would never." An Hao pouted, "Whenever Mom mentions Sis, it’s always ’that child, she’s amazing’ and stuff like that. She’d never scold Sis."
Tantan nodded, "Sister Shiqi is great, I really like Sister Shiqi."
"...Why do I feel personally targeted?" He Wenyu eyed the two little kids suspiciously, then wandered his gaze around and laughed, "But just because they’re talking about you doesn’t mean they’re scolding you. Maybe they’re saying you don’t act like a big sister at all, only know how to spoil the kids and dote on An Hao."
"He’s my little brother, if I don’t spoil him who’s gonna?" Qhianqhian stubbornly lifted her chin. "Besides, you’re the one who’s a big sister and you didn’t sneeze, there’s no reason for me to sneeze. It’s definitely a cold."
He Wenyu: "...Fine then, I’ll boil you some ginger soup when we get back?"
"No no, just make some pork rib soup and I’ll be fine." Qhianqhian snickered.
...How does she look the slightest bit like she has a cold? She’s even picky about food, not stupid at all.
Back at the small courtyard, Mo was lying on his side on the small couch under the eaves, leisurely holding a book and reading. His brows and eyes were like a painting, enough to make people dazed for a moment.
And the courtyard was piled with a bunch of stuff that really couldn’t be ignored, looked like... trees?
"You’re back?" Hearing footsteps, Mo lifted his eyes slightly, glanced at the four of them, and said, "On my way back just now I passed by the Forbidden Land and saw the peach blossoms were in full bloom there, so I broke off a few branches and brought them back for you to look at."
A few branches??!!
The peach branches in front of them were as thick as a person’s arm, and this was what he called ’just to look at’??? And if they were just branches, why did they still have roots attached??? With soil on the roots? How did this look like ’branches’??? This was obviously peach trees!
And it was clearly blooming, so why were there peaches on it too? Is the Forbidden Land’s soil really that good at growing flowers???
"Do you see any suitable vases for these?" Qhianqhian’s mouth twitched as she asked, "You could directly plant them in the courtyard at this point."
Mo’s eyes lit up, he smiled, "That is an excellent idea, very much to my liking." Saying so, he closed the book in his hand and calmly stood up, as if he hadn’t had that idea at all until Qhianqhian mentioned it. He casually picked two Taozi, tossed them to Qhianqhian, "Wash them for the kids, let them eat. I tried one, it’s actually quite sweet."
"So the flower-viewing is fake, the peach-eating is real. Letting us ’have a look’ is fake, wanting to be able to eat them at any time is real." Qhianqhian washed the Taozi and handed them to An Hao and Tantan, "Go eat over there, don’t bother Brother Mo planting trees."
"Okay." An Hao agreed very quickly, not feeling any pressure at all. Under his lead, Tantan also went to a place that definitely wouldn’t affect the tree-planting... the front gate.
"An Hao’s sense of things is pretty good. Even if you plant them in the middle of the courtyard, you still wouldn’t plant them at the gate blocking people." He Wenyu nodded repeatedly in praise.
Qhianqhian turned her head and looked at He Wenyu with utmost seriousness, "Don’t you feel like we’re also in the way? Hurry and go cook, or we’ll have to help dig holes and water later."
He Wenyu couldn’t help bursting out laughing, "Dodging the digging I can understand, but the watering, you can’t dodge that, right? Who else would it be but you?"
"...This makes me feel like I must be some kind of farmer, my official job every day is just watering flowers, plants, and trees." Qhianqhian pouted, then looked over at Mo who was watching them from the side, "Call me when you need me later."
Mo nodded, "I’ve already picked all the Taozi and put them away. Only these few unripe ones are left for looks. I put a plate of them in the kitchen." He said calmly as he looked at the two girls.
Qhianqhian’s face was instantly full of surprise.
She was just thinking, the tree was covered in peach blossoms but she hadn’t seen many fruits. The ripest two were in An Hao and Tantan’s hands.
As the older sisters they couldn’t very well fight the kids for them, right? So they kept quiet.
She hadn’t expected... Mo really did bring the trees back just to eat Taozi?
"These trees are Spirit Peach Trees. I bet that place has spent all these years nurturing this one single tree that can actually bear fruit, and you just took it away without the slightest courtesy." The old man came on the scene upon hearing the news. Sitting on the wall, he lazily watched the peach-eating kid duo and Mo who was digging holes and planting trees.
What he’d heard, of course, wasn’t news about the trees, but about his beloved disciple getting into a fight with someone. But seeing them now, there didn’t seem to be any problem. These kids were all so carefree. None of them was treating it as a big deal.
"No, it’s three trees." Mo corrected without even lifting his head.
The old man glanced around the courtyard and was speechless—weren’t there exactly three trees in the yard? Did he really have to be this excessive? Not leaving even one behind?
Then again, it was the Forbidden Land. Even if he wanted to go there, he’d have to think it over. Any place labeled as Forbidden Land was dangerous for them too, so even as their teacher he’d have to consider carefully before making a decision.
But now that the Spirit Peach Trees were in their own courtyard, they could eat as many as they wanted, right?
The old man jumped into the courtyard in high spirits, then... was dumbfounded to discover that there were only unripe Taozi on the trees?!
"Where did all the Taozi go?" The old man asked in utter disbelief.
Mo still didn’t look up, replied lightly and unconcerned, "They got eaten."
The old man looked toward the gate—An Hao and Tantan were happily eating.
Then he rushed to the kitchen at once...
He Wenyu and Qhianqhian were cheerfully chomping on the last two Taozi...
"..." The old man froze on the spot. Was this a joke? Why did he suddenly feel like he wanted to cry but had no tears? Why did those two look so blissful eating Taozi? He... really wanted to cry.
"Wow, this is super delicious." After Qhianqhian finished eating, she didn’t forget to plant the peach pit right next to the stove.
"Ah!!!"
With a wail, Qhianqhian and He Wenyu turned around at the same time and saw the old man looking utterly done with life, clutching his head and staring at the sky. The words "disappointment" were clearly written on his face, and if you looked more closely, you could faintly see "despair" flashing there as well...
"Teacher?" He Wenyu turned around, face full of panic. What could have happened to make the old man react like this?
There was just no way to describe that expression as "nothing’s wrong"...
He hurriedly brought over the Taozi she’d saved and handed it to the old man, "Teacher, have a Taozi too!"
After all, a whole plate of Taozi had a lot of fruits. Other than the ones they were planning to save to take to the friends at the teahouse, there just happened to be one extra. Nianan still couldn’t eat Taozi by herself yet.
"Good disciple..." In an instant the old man snapped back to normal, looking at the Taozi with a face full of emotion.
He Wenyu: "???" It’s just one peach, is that really necessary?
