Chapter 452: The Truth Beneath The Ordinary

Sacha sat back, still a little bright from the window.

"She’s going to stand there until she can’t see the car," she said.

"Probably."

"You’re allowed to look pleased about that."

He did not argue. The road opened. Trees, then the first stretch that meant the town was behind them. His mind, which had been full of kitchens and receipts and the cool half of a guest-room bed, turned the way it always did once the wheels were moving.

Drop Sacha first. Then the apartment near Peak. And under that, quieter than the engine: Camilla. How she had been since he left. Whether the city had been kind. Whether she would still look at him the same when he walked in with last night still living somewhere he had not decided how to name.

The road unspooled toward Inksea, pale and ordinary, as if the world had not just been a guest-room and a kitchen and a window with a girl in it.

Stan’s mind, which should have stayed on the lane markings, went to Camilla instead.

Her spiritual sense could cross the distance without trying. Velaris was not far to someone like her. If she had reached for him last night, if she had tasted the heat in that amber room, the way Mia had said his name, what would she have done with the knowledge. Unease flicked through him, not quite guilt, not quite fear. Curiosity sat beside it. Camilla was many things. Simple was not one of them.

The silence in the Audi held for another mile. Sacha watched the trees. Stan watched the road. Then he glanced at her.

"Have you felt different," he asked, "since yesterday. Since back then when you played Uno with Camilla."

Sacha’s fingers paused on her knee. "Yes," she said. "Like my skin is listening to something I can’t hear yet."

He almost smiled. "You’re about to become a superhuman."

She turned. Full stare. "Are you serious?"

He nodded.

"Is that what you two are? Camilla and you, you two are superhumans?"

Another nod. The car did not swerve. His hands on the wheel stayed boringly correct.

The play went out of her face the way light leaves a room when someone shuts a door. She had grown up on his jokes. This one had no joke in it.

"Are you fr?" ℯℯ𝑙.

"Yes."

The questions she had been sitting on for months, years, if she was honest, came up in a rush. The money. The shares. The way her brother had gone from the boy next door to a name people said carefully. She had always known, in the part of herself that did not like to be a fool, that the rise was not natural. She had chosen, for a while, not to pick at it.

"Is that why," she said. "The companies. Wanhai. All of it happening so fast. Is that part of this too."

He felt the flood coming and breathed once, steady, the way he did before a decision he could not take back.

"In a way, yes. The supernatural side is tied to how the wealth arrived. It happened quickly. It still feels like a story someone else should be living. But I didn’t steal it. I didn’t cheat a ledger. It came to me legitimately."

Then he told her what he could.

Cultivation. Not a metaphor. A practice. Qi returning to a world that had forgotten the taste of it. The larger picture: energy seeping back into soil and blood and bone, and with it a future that would not stay polite.

Sacha listened with her mouth slightly open, shock stacking behind her eyes in layers.

When he finished the core of it she whispered, "Cultivation is real?"

"Yes, sis." He did not take his gaze off the asphalt. "And there’s a good chance the races people filed under fiction will come back. From the realm where they were trapped."

"Which type of race?"

"Vampires. Werewolves. Beastkin. And true humans, a supreme bloodline among our own. They lived on Earth once. A powerful being sealed them elsewhere for reasons that would take a night to unpack. The seal is thinning. That’s why Qi is returning. That’s why they’ll walk this ground again."

She was quiet long enough that a truck passed them and faded.

"That’s a lot. I don’t know how to feel about all this."

"I know, sis. But the changes have already started. Beasts will mutate. Humans will awaken. Expect a lot of chaos the next few days."

Inwardly, without moving his mouth, he asked the system what he should have asked months ago.

’Can I buy from the shop and put the knowledge straight into someone’s head. No book. No file. Direct.’

The reply arrived in that clean, private register only he heard.

[Affirmative. If the target’s favorability toward Host exceeds 50, Host may transmit items and knowledge directly. Telepathic communication is also available.]

Stan facepalmed with one hand. The other stayed on the wheel.

"Why the fuck did you not tell me this earlier."

The system, as usual, offered no apology.

He opened the shop, found a top-tier cultivation technique, paid, and sent the whole of it into Sacha’s mind.

She jolted in the seat as if a current had found her spine. Information arrived not as words but as structure, breath paths, meridians, the logic of gathering Qi, the first postures of a life that was no longer theoretical. Her eyes went wide.

"You’re the one that did that?"

"Yes, sis. When you get home, sit. Meditate. Try to sense Qi. Follow the manual. Take it seriously. Things are about to get dangerous. Raising your strength has to come before almost everything else."

He bought the sword next. A blade that could be a needle or a spear depending on the will behind it. It vanished into inventory, then, still driving one-handed, he called the shortened form into his free palm. A few inches of dark metal. An object that had not existed in the car a heartbeat before.

Sacha stared. Surprise, sharp and complete. No panic. The shock had somewhere to sit now; the morning had already taught her that impossible things could arrive without asking permission. Acceptance was beginning, reluctant and loyal, because the person doing the impossible was her brother.
