Raising Yanderes to save the world

Well, it was quite obvious at this point that Kael had no idea what was going on here, and it showed on his face.

The Leon look-alike let out a sigh at Kael’s clueless expression.

"Then, do you recall dying before you woke up in the hospital? According to our reports, when Miss Sera shot you, you were declared dead. But by the time we brought your body back, you started to breathe again. We were just as baffled as you look."

Kael had...died? For how long? And how did he start breathing again?

Did the staff at the hospital he worked at save him? They did not seem that competent to him, but maybe he owed them an apology?

"Based on the evidence provided, you were dead for over 20 minutes before you started breathing again. It was not through normal means, we can be sure of that much."

That made sense. One or two minutes could be considered a miracle, but over 20 minutes? It had to be some kind of magical intervention.

Moreover...

"Since when did this world have magic? I never sensed anything like this before."

That was Kael’s main question, and the Leon look-alike sighed.

"About that...it has been a few years. At first, we all started getting these weird dreams that we did not pay attention to. And then it started to get worse and worse until we could not remember who we were. At that time, our boss found a society, and our current company came to be."

The Leon look-alike briefed Kael on what was happening.

The more Kael heard him, the more he had a feeling that this was some kind of world magic that had gotten out of hand. There should have been no other reason for this world to get twisted like this.

"You...did not used to look like this?"

Kael asked carefully, and the Leon look-alike sighed before nodding.

"Of course not. One day, I started having dreams of another world, and then my hair color changed to this. Before I knew it, I looked like someone else. Why? Do I look familiar? But somehow, I doubt it. I have looked for this face everywhere—"

"And if I say that I know someone with this face, what will you do?"

Kael was not sure why his mouth was working like this, but he felt like he had to speak now. His instincts were telling him that this was the only time he could speak and be taken seriously.

"No, wait! Give me a second to process this. You know who I am? I mean, someone who looks like me?"

The desperate man asked, and Kael nodded.

"I know. But if you told me that you want to meet him, I won’t be able to show you. After all, I met him in another world."

Kael’s words made his supervisor even more stressed, to the point that his hair turned white.

"Darn it! Tell me everything you can. Fuck! First, I feel like someone is trying to take over my body, and now this. Ugh, can things get any more complicated?"

And that was Kael’s cue to give his supervisor a quick summary of who he was and what had happened to him.

Of course, he kept most of the important details out of it. But the summary was brief, yet plentiful enough to get his point across.

"So, you are telling me that the thing we are fighting is a god from another world that somehow found a way to break into this world? For what reason? Our world did not even use magic?"

The Leon look-alike asked while trying his hardest not to yell.

"Yeah. I wonder what it could be about as well."

Kael nodded, hiding the fact that it was all happening because of him. After all, he knew he would become public enemy number one the second he admitted that he was connected with all of this.

So, until he was sure what was happening and what he could do to fix it, it was best to keep his involvement to a minimum.

Sigh

"Fine, say that I do believe you...what do we do next? It’s not like we can fight that thing off forever. Our artifacts cannot be used forever, and recharging them takes a long time..."

"I might be able to help. As I said, I used to be a Grand Master, so I know a lot about magic and artifacts. I might be able to find a way to recharge them for you."

Kael pointed out, and hope started to shine in the Leon look-alike’s eyes.

"Well, it would be too good to be true if you truly have that power. We will be able to save a lot of lives."

Kael knew that it was not his fault that all this was happening. But for some reason, it felt like it was his fault. So he wisely chose not to say anything right now.

...

"Officer Tyson, you are finally back. How were things in the field? And how is this? A new recruit? Which gullible person did you manage to loop in this time? And how long will he last?"

Kael was taken to the lowest basement in their office building, and it felt like he had indeed entered the headquarters of a highly advanced civilization in a sci-fi movie.

And yet, he could feel the faintest presence of magic in the air, which told him that this place was not as normal as it seemed.

The Leon look-alike, or rather, Officer Tyson, sighed and then looked at the speaker with tired eyes.

"He is not an innocent bystander who will be here temporarily, but rather, the solution to all our energy-related problems. I am taking him to the tech branch for some tests."

Officer Tyson told the speaker, who let out a chuckle at his words.

"Come on! There is no need to be like this. Just learn to relax a little. And you, new kid. Don’t sweat too much! No one is expecting you to perform miracles here. Just keep your head on your shoulders and keep yourself alive. Sometimes, this is all we can ask for."

The people in this establishment felt tired. It was as if they were barely holding on to their sanity as well as their expectations.

It made Aiden feel slightly sorry for them, but he knew that he was not in a position to sympathize with anyone.

"Let’s go to the tech department. Your talents will be put to better use there."

Aiden had no doubt about this, so he followed Tyson to the right section in the basement. He could still feel eyes on him until the door closed behind him.

"Don’t pay too much attention to anyone here. We don’t usually get new members, so people will be a little curious for now. The interest should settle down quickly."

Tyson assured Kael, and he nodded before continuing deeper into the facility.

Finally, they reached the end of the hall, and a new door opened. Behind it were several artifacts that tried to latch onto Kael for his magic. They all wanted to be recharged and acted like small children.

However, Aiden had much more experience than these small artifacts, and his control was much better. He ended up making all the artifacts submit to him.

"Officer Tyson, you are back? And who is that person behind you? A new hire? But we did not hear anything about it. Is he a gullible young master here to check up on us and make money?"

The scientist who came running out to meet Tyson looked at Kael with a worried look on her face. She was suspicious of him, which was not a good feeling.

Still, Kael did not react or show that he had heard what she had said. He saw no point in giving her any validation.

"Ah, don’t worry about Kael. He is a new hire, but rather than a parachute hire, he is here as our experiment. Make sure to use him as much as you can."

Tyson’s smile looked sinister, and Kael felt his eyes moving toward him as well.

"Excuse me...? What do you mean by that, Officer Tyson?"

The scientist looked confused as well, but she chose to give Kael a sympathetic look for having to deal with such an annoying man.

Officer Tyson ignored the scientist’s worry and instead turned toward Kael.

"This is someone who can use magic. I saw it with my own eyes, so there is no need to doubt it. I brought him here because he says he might be able to help us with our artifact recharging problem."

The lab went silent at that declaration, and Kael immediately noticed everyone looking at him with a shocked expression.

"What do you mean he’s someone who can use magic? Do you mean he can wield artifacts—"

"No, I mean genuine magic. I saw him fighting that fog with my own eyes using his magic, without any artifact."
