Kael had seen various uncomfortable situations in his life, but sitting in front of Leon while he answered his questions was not something he had anticipated.

His question still hung in the air, unanswered, and Leon looked like he was having a hard time deciding where he should start his explanation. Finally, after much deliberation, he decided to ask the important question.

"How much do you recall from your past life? You do not need to hide anything from me because I already know what happened. I just need to know how much you remember so that I can fill in the gaps."

Leon was trying to make his job easier by asking Kael to speak first. Kael knew that it was Leon’s way of avoiding telling him everything. But for the sake of getting answers, he decided to look past it this time.

"I recall the war breaking out because of the corruption and every one of you going nuts and starting to destroy the world. I tried to stop you, and then I died. I don’t know why, but I remembered my past life when I reincarnated. Then I died during that life and woke up in the past. Will this short version do?"

Kael decided that if Leon was going to be petty, then he was going to be petty in return. He could see that Leon was having a hard time controlling his emotions, but that was no longer Kael’s responsibility to manage.

He was just here for answers, and depending on them, he would decide what he wanted to do.

"I would prefer it if you gave me the longer version next time."

Leon sighed, but this seemed to be more than enough for him to begin.

"Anyway, the real trouble for us started after you died. We all kind of lost it after that. And I mean even more than we had before. At least we still had morals and ethics while you were there, for your sake. But once you were dead, most of us fell apart."

It was hard to believe this, even while listening to Leon’s words. But Kael decided not to question what he was hearing and simply nodded along.

Leon wetted his lips before he continued.

"It was Seraphina’s idea...well, my idea, but Seraphina refined it...to bring you back to the world of the living. But to do that, we needed a considerable force that could break the laws and boundaries of this world. So we decided to invoke the World Magic—"

"You did what? How many times do I have to remind you that some things are taboo for a reason?"

Kael felt his head throb as soon as he heard Leon’s half-explanation.

It suddenly made sense why the world magic had attached itself to Kael of all people. It was because it was trying to prevent a situation where this world would be in danger once more.

But Kael had a feeling that was not all that had happened.

"Fine! Let’s say that you tried to invoke the World Magic. Did it help? Were you able to break through the fabric of reality? You must have if you brought me back...Leon..."

The hero had gone quiet, which gave Kael a bad feeling. So he immediately called Leon out on it, and the hero flinched.

"We...sort of failed when we tried the first time. But we continued to break every barrier we could find in order to get to you. In the end, we might have made one last desperate attempt that involved a certain bad thing..."

"You used the corruption? Leon, how could you...! What happened as a result? Did the world get destroyed?"

Kael asked, immediately feeling horrible at what he had just heard. He knew that this was a situation that most people would never be able to recover from. After all, the corruption left its mark on people.

"It was Selene’s idea to use the corruption. But looking back at it, I am sure she was fully corrupted when she suggested that. We were not in any condition to look past her advice either..."

Leon tried to defend himself but realized how foolish he sounded, and he gave up.

"Anyway, in the end, Seraphina, Iris, Elena, Selene, and I invoked the magic. Lyra never participated, but I am sure the magic affected her as well. We were all desperate, and in the end, we did bring you back. But some other things changed in the process as well."

Leon tried to make light of the situation, but Kael could hear what he was not saying in his words.

As for what had changed, it was more than obvious that it was the corruption.

It had gained more power during the use of the World Magic and had started evolving. But the bigger question was why the corruption had allowed the laws of the world to be changed. And how was that even possible?

The only thing that could change the laws of this world was the World Magic...

Unless...

’No way! That’s too much of a coincidence! What is this weird soap-opera-like plot twist? Are you trying to tell me that the corruption is a form of World Magic as well?’

This was the kind of revelation that happened once in a person’s life. It was the kind that made them question everything they knew before ultimately discarding it.

But Kael was a level-headed individual who could think for himself. He knew what the corruption was and what it entailed. But the fact that it was starting to evolve made him nervous.

Moreover, he had begun hearing the corruption as well, which meant that it was no longer just a simple form of magic.

He needed Leon to explain more before he could draw any conclusions.

"So, what did you do with my body and the corruption? It must have decomposed after a few days of me being dead—"

"Seraphina preserved your body after you died. None of us asked her to; she did it of her own volition. And when we invoked the World Magic, your body disappeared into the corruption."

’Great, so I am a vessel of the corruption right now.’
