Chapter 85: Ch 84.5: Lumi’s Daily Life in the Temple

"There seems to be a lot of activities going on. How was Lord Aiden even able to keep track of it all? I feel like my head is going to split open if I try to keep track of more than two at a time."

Lumi complained as she looked down at the pile of reports on her desk. These were all the complaints that needed to be resolved quickly.

This was a system Aiden had formed since it was impossible to meet everyone and hear what they had to say in a single day.

Based on these reports and their urgency, Lumi had to take care of them one by one, which took some time.

But every time she saw the happy look on the people around the settlement, this hassle felt worth it, and she was reminded of how important her duty was. Especially considering the fact that Priest Aiden and their goddess were out of the village.

Lumi started her day by picking out important complaints, and after breakfast and prayers, she headed out to check up on the people and resolve their complaints.

Most of it was easy enough, and for administrative decisions, she told others to wait for Aiden to come back.

Generally, people were willing to wait for Aiden as well since they trusted him.

Today was going to be similar for Lumi... or so she thought. But it started a little differently. She received a letter from Aiden, informing her that they would be having new residents soon and that the area right outside on the left needed to be cleared out.

Lumi did not question Aiden’s decision and headed toward the dwarves’ working site to hand the letter over.

She had not gone far when she heard the sound of things being torn apart. And that felt concerning. The noise was coming from just outside the barrier area as well.

The schedule she had read had not said anything about tearing or large-scale construction. But she could hear the trees falling around her as well.

"Is something going on? I better head out and check..."

She complained as she ran toward the noise, but she did not know what she expected.

But a formless demon attacking the villagers was the last thing she expected to see.

"Miss priestess, you should not come here. We will take care of this demon somehow. Please head back to safety right now."

The dwarves working on the site noticed her, and they immediately looked concerned for her safety. They even created a safety net around her, trying to keep the demon away from her.

But as a result, they got injured.

Lumi snapped out of her daze and realized that she needed to act right now if she wanted to save these dwarf workers.

Her powers answered her call, and she used the jellyfishes to create a shield around the dwarf villagers, separating them from the demon.

"I will be fine. I have Goddess Apophis’s protection, so I will be fine. Everyone else, run inside the barrier for safety."

Lumi instructed, and the dwarves hesitated but soon decided to follow her advice.

The demon tried to run behind them as well, but was blocked by the barrier. It tried to attack the barrier, but it held strong.

"Tsk, how dare you try and disrupt Goddess Apophis’s territory when she is not even here? I will show you how big of a mistake you are making."

The demon did not have the mental capability to be able to think, so it turned toward Lumi when she stepped forward and decided to make her its next target.

Lumi blocked the demon with her jellyfishes acting like a barrier and then exploded them all.

The monster took a step back in fear as its arm was blown off, but as its first instinct was to fight for survival, it tried to rush toward Lumi and the barrier again.

"Tsk, why did I think you would learn from your first mistake?"

Lumi questioned as the barrier thickened in front of her. It started to expand slowly until it covered the monster while her jellyfishes were devouring the demon until there was nothing left.

"Goodbye. I hope you never have to be born in this world again."

Lumi smiled at the demon as it finally disappeared under her jellyfish, being blasted away by thousands of explosions every second.

Some might call it cruel, but she was not going to leave even a hint of this demon’s presence and give it a chance to come back.

The dwarves slowly came out of the barrier once they were certain that the demon was truly gone. They looked at Lumi with a mixture of awe and fear.

"Miss priestess... you defeated that thing all by yourself?"

One of the younger dwarves asked while staring at the empty space where the demon had disappeared.

Lumi nodded calmly as she looked around to make sure that no one else had been injured.

"It was nothing. Goddess Apophis has blessed me with her power, so protecting her people is my duty."

Her words immediately caused the dwarves to look at each other before they bowed their heads.

"Praise Goddess Apophis!"

Their voices echoed across the settlement, and Lumi smiled at their reaction.

She was about to return to her work when she noticed something strange.

The barrier around the settlement had flickered for just a moment.

Lumi’s expression became serious as she stared toward the forest.

"That demon... it might not have been alone. But there is no need to worry. I will take a look outside. Meanwhile, Priest Aiden has another task for you all. We are going to receive some new residents soon. We should get started on their residences."

Lumi handed the letter to the dwarf leader who took the letter and then nodded to show that he understood.

"We will get started on the task. Please rest assured that it will be finished sooner than anyone expects."

The dwarfs were hard workers, and now it was Lumi’s turn to work hard as well. She was going to weed out the demons and keep the village’s surroundings safe.
