Raising the Forgotten Snake Goddess with my Divine Faith System
Chapter 108: Ch 107: Preparations for War
The number of coins he had been saving quickly began to disappear, but Aiden did not care. If he had to spend every single coin to protect his goddess, then he would do exactly that.
’I won’t let anyone take this place from us.’
He glanced toward Goddess Apophis, who was currently enjoying the festival as if there was no war approaching.
Seeing her relaxed expression made Aiden smile.
His goddess trusted him completely, and that trust was more than enough to make him work until his body gave out.
However, there was still one problem.
They did not know how strong God Vital’s forces were.
Aiden had no idea how many followers the other god had, nor how many divine weapons they possessed.
That was why he decided to send scouts toward the border.
If they could gather even a little information before the attack, it could make the difference between victory and defeat.
The system had drones to buy, and Aiden used them to get more information. But it still did not feel like it was enough. The progress was just not there.
[A special incentive for my special person has been activated.]
[Dear user, are you worried about something? Well, the system has a solution for you. For just the price of 1,000,000 coins, the system can provide you with the information of the attack formation and locations.]
"1,000,000 coins? You might as well bankrupt me at that point."
Considering Aiden did not even have 10k coins, getting 1,000,000 coins seemed like a lifetime of work.
But of course, where there were problems, there were solutions. And the system decided to provide Aiden with what he needed.
[Please do not worry, dear user. The system also provides a loan. You can loan 1,000,000 coins at a small interest rate of 1%, no, 0.01% per week. This sounds nice, right?]
Well, it did sound nice...until one realized that this was a debt he could not pay up. At least not for a few years.
By the time he had enough, won’t the interest already be too much with even 0.01% interest? Especially since it was weekly.
[Please do not worry, my dear user. Once you win this war, you can sell all the offerings from the defeated god to the system. The system shall provide you with an equal coin value for the items provided.]
The system assured Aiden, and he looked blankly at it for a few seconds.
"Wait! That was an option? Why did you not tell me beforehand..."
Then again, considering the fact that Aiden had sold an artifact to the system before, maybe it was his own fault for not considering that option.
Still, if winning this war was going to recover all the cost he had spent, wasn’t it a good investment?
"Alright, I will take the loan. What else can you get me?"
Aiden told the system, and he watched as his bank balance reached red before an additional interest bar was added.
[Current Loan: 1,000,000 coins.]
[Locations marked for the attack are being shown on the map.]
The map opened up, and Aiden quickly changed the areas of the defense settlement. Now that he knew where they were going to be attacked from, he made sure those blank points were covered first.
Of course, he did not neglect the other areas, but he was not as focused on them as he was on the main areas.
With such strong preparation, victory seemed in sight.
But defense was not the only thing Aiden needed to do if he wanted to win. He had to press forward into the enemy territory and take it over as well. Only then will he be able to claim this as a complete victory.
"Well, taking a small squad will do the trick. Most of the other side’s forces will be out attacking as well..."
It was time to train that small squad and equip them as well. And Aiden already knew who was going with him.
...
Meanwhile, God Vital’s forces were filled with vigor, and they were ready for war.
Initially, they had not wanted a war and had even considered telling their god to let that small territory go. But once they had seen that territory, their minds had changed.
That beautiful city with unique architecture and all kinds of unique facilities was like a utopia for most people. And the followers of God Vital wanted to make it theirs.
But some of the followers had a few doubts in their minds.
"Hey, are you sure it will be fine if we take over the city? We don’t know anything about how to maintain it-"
"Then we will just take that priest we saw with that rude goddess under our control as well. He seemed to know what was going on in the city and how to manage it."
"But isn’t he loyal? What if he tries to follow his goddess-"
"That’s what the slave spell is for! Once he’s under our control, he won’t have any choice but to live for us. We can exploit him all we want."
Laughter echoed across the room as people drank and spoke to each other merrily. They had no urgency in their voice or body language, despite the fact that a war was looming over their heads.
It was because they trusted God Vital and his powers. As long as he was leading the charge, there was no way they could lose.
That was what everyone believed.
Their confidence continued to grow as the preparations moved forward.
Weapons were being distributed, soldiers were being gathered, and orders were being passed down from one commander to another.
None of them seemed to consider the possibility that they could actually lose.
After all, they had God Vital behind them.
What could possibly go wrong?
Their army slowly began to move toward the border, unaware that Aiden already knew exactly where they were coming from.
