Chapter 74: Regarding Marin-sensei

As thanks for Marin-sensei licking and cleaning me, I cast "Clean" on Linda. For some reason, my son stayed gripped in her hand as I fell asleep.

When I woke up in the morning, Linda was already sucking on my son as part of her morning routine. This morning too, I energetically fired off and she swallowed it all. With a big smile on her face, Linda said:

"Thank you for the meal."

"This boy has gotten quite big, hasn’t he?" she added with some strange comment I couldn’t quite understand.

I’ve only been here for about two weeks. No matter how much of a growth period it is, there’s no way it could have grown noticeably in that short time. Besides, the number of times she’s sucked it isn’t even that many. What exactly is she comparing it to?

Anyway, I woke up feeling good and had breakfast. I told Cass I wanted to go out and asked her to prepare an escort.

As I left the inner palace and waited for my escort, Marin-sensei arrived with a man. The two of them came before me and bowed politely. The man was tall with long limbs and very handsome — the kind of guy who seemed blessed by heaven with two gifts. I was incredibly envious. I wondered if this man was Marin-sensei’s husband, and sure enough, he began to speak.

"Lord Robin, my name is Lindsay Buckingham. As you have probably already guessed, I am Marin Brando’s husband. I sincerely apologize for my wife’s rude remarks yesterday."

He bowed his head. Then he raised it again and continued:

"Normally, such disrespect could warrant severe punishment, yet I heard that you chose not to pursue the matter and treated it as if nothing happened. We are truly grateful for your generous handling of the situation. I originally intended to offer a formal apology in a proper setting, but since the incident has been overlooked, I am offering my thanks here. Thank you very much."

He bowed deeply once more. Marin-sensei bowed alongside him.

"I will repay this favor one day. If you ever find yourself in any trouble, please feel free to call on either me or my wife. We will do everything in our power to assist you."

He bowed again.

People passing by were giving us strange looks.

"Buckingham-san, that’s enough. Please raise your head," I said with a smile, trying to convey that I wasn’t bothered by it.

Marin-sensei’s husband raised his head.

"I see. Thank you very much. As I said before, if any problem arises, please come to me. If it is beyond my ability, I will ask my superiors so that I may be of service to Lord Robin."

He was being overly deferential.

"There are people watching, so please, that’s enough."

"Yes, I understand. Well then, I must return to work. I heard that Marin will be serving as your escort today, so I came to apologize. Please treat us well in the future as well."

With that, Marin-sensei’s husband left.

Now it was just me and Marin-sensei. The atmosphere felt heavy. Still, there was no point dwelling on it. Marin-sensei’s expression was dark.

"Marin-sensei, let’s go."

"Yes, I will follow."

We walked in silence through the palace gates and out into the city. Only then did Marin-sensei finally speak.

"Lord Robby... I am truly sorry about what happened yesterday..."

When I turned around to look at her, her mouth was twisted and she looked like she was about to cry.

"Marin-sensei... that’s enough about that already. Okay? Please don’t mention it anymore! It’s a promise!"

I gently pulled on her twisted, crying mouth and forced it into a smile.

"Funyaa~~ that’s not fair~~"

Marin-sensei said, her cheeks stretching. It felt nice.

I don’t have any money, so I can’t go to Browning-sensei’s place. I feel like just watching would be fine, but if I go, she’ll probably invite me in, and then I’d end up putting it on credit. So I decided not to go today. If I do my part-time job at the accounting bureau this afternoon, I should receive one silver coin.

When I met Marin-sensei’s husband earlier, something had caught my attention.

"Marin-sensei, there’s something I’d like to ask."

"Yes... what is it?"

Her voice was heavy.

"Your last name is Brando, and your husband’s is Buckingham, right? Do married couples have different surnames here? Or have you not registered your marriage yet?"

"Well... since you are royalty, Lord Robby, you may not know, but we use separate surnames for married couples. A wife may take her husband’s surname or keep her maiden name. With my husband’s permission, I have chosen to use my maiden name."

"I see, I didn’t know that."

"Yes. When commoners marry into nobility, many commoners don’t even have surnames, so they take the noble’s name. Both my husband and I are knighted, so we each use our respective family names. When the husband’s family has a higher title, the wife often takes his family name, but changing one’s surname can be troublesome, so many women choose not to change it even after marriage."

She spoke in a very heavy tone. It seemed like Marin-sensei was really dwelling on things. There was no point dragging it out forever.

After that, we continued walking in silence. Whenever I glanced back, she was looking down. In times like this, eating something sweet might lighten the mood a bit, right?

"Marin-sensei, shall we get something sweet? Want to go to the usual shop?"

When I asked, Marin-sensei lifted her face and said:

"In that case, let’s go to a shop I know."

She took the lead and started walking ahead.
